《The Younger Agent - Natasha Romanoff x OC》Chapter 31 - A Bit Of A Tumble

Just as the group had united and thought there was some semblance of control, another hoard of leviathans came soaring through the hole in the sky.
Eleanor just stared at them unsure of how to react. Sure, the Hulk had finished off one of them, but she wasn't sure whether or not the group would be able to put a stop to all of them before they did significant damage to the city. Plus, they shot out more Chitauri, which wasn't ideal.
"Guys", Nat drew the other's attention to the fleet of giant metal worms as some of them had their backs to it.
"Call it, Captain". Eleanor was shocked at hearing Stark give Cap control but was quickly brought back to the present.
"All right, listen up, until we can close that portal our priority is containment. Barton, I want you on that roof, eyes on everything. Call out patterns and strays. Stark, you got the perimeter. Anything gets more than three blocks out you turn it back, or you turn it to ash". Seemed like a pretty good plan so far, except for the not being able to close the portal aspect.
"Can you give me a lift?", Barton turned to Stark.
"Right, better clench up Legolas". Eleanor let out a short and loud laugh at the nickname, making Clint turn to her and send her an eye roll before being lifted into the air.
Cap continued laying out the plan, "Thor, you got to try and bottleneck that portal. Slow them down. You got the lightning, light the bastards up". They then watched as Thor flew away, except for Nat who seemed to be staring at something, though Eleanor wasn't quite sure what.
The Captain then turned to Eleanor, "I want your main focus to be on civilian control, El. You see any stragglers you get them to safety. You see any aliens, you send them to hell".
She nodded, "Got it". Natasha wasn't particularly enthusiastic at the idea of her girlfriend running around on her own but she had to suck it up and put sentiments behind her.
Eleanor grabbed a hold of Nat's hand and squeezed it, "Stay safe". Nat nodded and whispered, "You too", as she watched her run away before the Captain gave their orders of staying on the ground keeping the army at bay.
Eleanor sprinted down the street, listening for signs of people struggling and shooting at Chitauri that were running in her direction, luckily the civilians seemed to have removed themselves from the centre of the fight, but she sensed that there would be some people struggling to get away a bit further along.
Her suspicions were proved to be correct when she rounded a corner. A woman and her child were hiding under an overturned car. She sighed as she bolted towards them.

Kneeling down she made sure that they were physically okay to move and cringed slightly when an explosion went off nearby and scared the child. "Hey buddy it's okay, I'm gonna get you out of here okay?", she cooed whilst gently rubbing the child's shoulder. When she was about to order the woman to stand up she suddenly screamed in Eleanor's face, making her jump out of her skin.
"What's wrong?", she sped out wondering what the hell this lady's problem was.
"Behind you", the woman frantically replied as she clutched her child closer to her.
Eleanor turned just as a Chitauri was swinging their staff at her, luckily she managed to duck and the blade of the staff hit the air where her head would have been. She jumped onto her feet to try and get them away from the people under the car and saw that there was more stalking towards her.
Dodging another attack, she started shooting at them whilst shouting orders towards the civilians, "You two need to run, carry on down the street and about a block away there'll be some stationed cops, they will get you away from the area, I will be right behind you". The woman stared at her seemingly horrified at this idea but got up carrying her child, and ran in the direction that Eleanor told her to.
Eleanor continued shooting at the wave of Chitauri that was advancing on her but started walking swiftly backwards to follow the woman, trying not to trip on anything whilst doing so. Occasionally she would turn to check that the lady wasn't being mangled by aliens but so far she was okay. Eleanor pulled the trigger a few more times until no bullets came out, so she quickly reloaded her gun before firing even more at the wave.
Once that particular group were down, she picked up another staff again and hightailed it down the street towards the police force, seeing that the woman had got to safety. One of the members of the police looked at her as though she was crazy, and well she did look it. Her hair was all over the place, she had a giant gash across her forehead, and her clothes were covered in Chitauri blood.
She ignored their looks and instead asked if there were any incidents that they were aware of that she could assist with, once again grimacing as more explosions happened nearby. She was informed that there was an apartment block nearby that a bunch of Chitauri had gotten into for some reason and the officers assigned there were struggling, so once the address was given she started her journey towards it, it would only take five minutes.
Out of breath and on the verge of collapsing from being on the go for so long, she took a 10-second breather and looked up at the sky seeing that the situation was getting no better. Eleanor was about to look away but saw a flock of red hair on one of the Chitauri flying vehicles that was turning a corner. Her heart stopped and she hopped on comms. "Is that Nat on one of those flying things?!".

"Yeah", Cap shouted, also sounding breathless.
"Are you shitting me, Natasha?", Eleanor half screamed, Nat grimaced at the use of her full name, Eleanor never used that, just as Nat never called her 'Eleanor', but she didn't have time to dwell.
"I'm fine, I need to get to the tower, just do your thing!".
Eleanor shook her head but continued, quickly reaching the glass door to the building she saw that a Chitauri was standing right in front of it. So, she slammed it open with all her strength, sending the alien to the floor, and quickly using the staff she had borrowed to finish it off. It took a lot of effort though, it's hard to pierce the armour.
Another one ran at her, so she blasted it away, and immediately swung the blade at another one that was trying to sneak up on her, though they weren't very successful.
Once those three were down she heard some officers upstairs, they must be the ones who were struggling with this rescue mission.
Eleanor was exhausted, but she had to push on, people were in need. Taking the stairs two at a time, she saw a group of twelve people crouched at the end of a relatively wide hallway, and some officers stood in front of them in a defensive stance.
She immediately lunged forward, piercing one of them and making them drop to the floor, and swung a few times at the others around, unable to blast them with all of those people around.
"Are they only on this floor?", she shouted at an officer before jumping on the back of one of the aliens, dragging them to the floor as she impaled it.
The officer looked at her wide-eyed and replied, "Yeah, yeah we think so!". When she landed on the floor with the Chitauri another one grabbed her and through her harshly backwards towards the stairs. She stood and tried to regain her bearings, by being thrown she had lost grip of the staff.
Standing in a defensive position, she looked at the staff lying on the floor behind the Chitauri moving towards her, "Hey if you could let me just-", she pointed towards the staff but was cut off by being kicked. Hard.
She flew into the wall behind her and consequently ended up tumbling down a few flights of stairs. Painfully. Her foot had hit one of the steps at quite a high force, enough momentum to throw her body with even more speed. Her ankle was definitely twisted, but she would have to shake it off. She lay on the floor with her teeth gritted, trying to push the pain away. "Now they've really pissed me off", she seethed.
Rolling over to stand, she grabbed ahold of the bannister and dragged herself up the stairs. The officers looked surprised to see her again. She saw that the staff she had dropped was being left unattended and so lunged towards it, landing belly first on top of it.
Once in her grasp, she rolled over and blasted a Chitauri that was standing over her, presumably planning to kill her but she didn't want to make assumptions.
She sighed in relief that she was still breathing, and turned to look at the group of people whilst she was still lying on the floor. "We need to go", she breathed out before painfully standing. They all nodded and followed her as they ran down the stairs and started going in the direction of the perimeter to get them to safety, blasting any Chitauri that decided it was a good idea to go near them.
After being thanked for her help, she hobbled back down towards the centre, taking out any aliens that she saw on her way. There seemed to be a never-ending amount of them, there were multiple times when she was almost overpowered, but she managed to barely just keep them at bay as she continued to her destination.
She went as fast as she could and eventually reached Thor and Cap, they were also almost being overpowered, the situation was not looking good, at all. She blasted a few that were going after Steve that he hadn't seen, then ran full speed at one that had its back to her. She jumped at it and kicked it with both feet to send it flying, and Cap hit it away with his shield. Eleanor had landed on her back but jumped up immediately, and landed on her feet, wincing at the pain radiating in her foot.
She didn't have time to stop though, as Cap was then shot, making Thor go absolutely crazy at the surrounding Chitauri, smacking a car into them and immediately killing them. Eleanor shuffled over as Thor helped Steve up, "Are you ready for another bout?".
"What, are you getting sleepy?", Steve joked. Thor chuckled and summoned his hammer, but Eleanor nodded her head frantically. Sleepy was not an appropriate word to describe how she felt.
Nat's voice rang through their earpieces, speaking words that brought hope for the first time since the Battle had begun raging on.
"I can close it!".

Vendor of Spirits
A warlock once made a pact with the Powers Above. He snuck in a clause that resurrected him whenever he died, with all his memories intact. He lived for thousands of years in a hundred different bodies, changing the world into a dystopian regime where he could freely pursue his passions: alcohol, television and ducks. This made the Powers Above very angry, so they erased his memories and reincarnated him as a simple barmaid in a sleepy village where she could do no harm. I don’t know any of this, of course. I just find it very annoying that she’s chosen me to tag along with.

The Wandering Scholar
Zhou Mingzie, A young Chinese American is suddenly brought into a mythical land, similar to China in many ways, but is most definitely not. This new world appears to contain cultivation elements like the Wuxia and Xanxia stories he read throughout highschool, but he can also gain Levels and Skills, I mean Paths and Techniques. Sure he is Chinese, but he grew up in America, so he doesn't want to ascend to the heavens and fight spirit beasts, does he? But Mom wants him to embrace his heritage more...jk...unless? [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Inspired heavily by The Wandering Inn and Beware of the Chicken, as well as cultivation novels in general, this story hopes to take a Westernish approach to the standard Cultivation approach, being more subtle and changing how it approaches the standard tropes of the genre, without abandoning them entirely.
