《The Younger Agent - Natasha Romanoff x OC》Chapter 21 - I Love It Here

After the dinner where the family information was spilt, Nat and Eleanor went upstairs to go and sleep away the jetlag. It had really started to hit them after eating and they needed to go and pass out for many hours.

Nat looked around Eleanor's old room with great interest, taking everything in and smiling softly when something had amused her. The walls were a simple cream shade but was full of colour from the posters lining the walls, of different movies and bands. She walked around, gently running her fingertips along different surfaces, flicking through old school notebooks that had been left on the desk, smiling at all of the little doodles that lined the pages; very reminiscent of notes taken during meetings present day.

When she reached the noticeboard with lots of photographs pinned onto it, she paused and looked at each one, a big smile on her face. There were some from when Eleanor was a small child getting up to all sorts of antics, more with her parents, and a lot of ones with her friends. When she reached a particular one, she paused. 16-year old Eleanor with 4 other people, school friends she assumed, all of them covered in paint in the middle of a field, laughing hysterically at the camera.

"What on Earth is happening here?", Nat turned around pointing to the photo.

"Oh! We were doing an art project", Eleanor shrugged whilst putting her pyjama bottoms on.

"On each other?", Nat sarcastically replied, shaking her head ever so slightly.

"We got a bit off track", she laughed, "We were supposed to be painting the landscape but we got bored".

Once Eleanor looked up at Nat again, she could see her looking a bit glum, "Hey, you okay?".

"Hm? Yeah, just seeing some of this has gotten me a bit nostalgic but I'm okay".

Eleanor was confused at how she felt nostalgic from this as she knew that their upbringings were polar opposites, so she frowned slightly, but pulled her girlfriend into a hug regardless. "Do you wanna talk about it?", she asked whilst rubbing small circles on Nat's back.

"I don't know... maybe?".

"You can take your time, you don't have to if you don't want to".

Nat pulled away from the hug and looked into Eleanor's eyes, they were filled with love and concern, which was comforting, "I want to, I just don't know where to start", she sighed.

Eleanor guided her over to sit on the edge of the bed and waited patiently whilst Nat was silent trying to gather her thoughts. After a few minutes, Nat grabbed ahold of Eleanor's hand and began explaining her Ohio deployment in the 90s with her pretend family. Her face lit up when she spoke about Yelena, her sister. The early childhood photos had reminded Nat of some staged ones, but they particularly reminded her of Yelena. Both Yelena and Eleanor in their childhood photos had very similar facial expressions of what can only be described as pure joy.

"I don't know what she's like now, but I like to think that you two would have gotten along, she was a bundle of chaos as well", Nat smiled a bit, recalling some old memories.

"Do you think you want to reach out to her?", Eleanor delicately asked.

Nat thought for a second, "Maybe in the future, I think for now just knowing that she's safe is good enough for me, but someday maybe". Nat loved Yelena, but she just wasn't ready to jump back into that part of her life again, she was content with where she was now for the first time and didn't know if she could deal with that changing.

Eleanor squeezed Nat's hand, "Thank you for telling me, it was very brave".

"Thank you for listening".

"Always".

With that, the two climbed into bed, Eleanor held Nat that night, usually, it was the other way around at Nat's request, but she knew that Nat would need it tonight. Nat was slightly taken aback when Eleanor got into the position that Nat normally did, but went along with it, and sighed contentedly when she buried her head into the crook of Eleanor's neck.

---

The next morning they were woken up by the smell of sausages and bacon wafting into the room. The two immediately got up and grinned, food was a good motivator to get out of bed. They sprinted down the stairs in their pyjamas like two kids on Christmas morning.

"Well hello you two", Sarah grinned as she saw the two adult women skidding around the corner into the kitchen.

"Yeah hi, where's the food", Eleanor brushed past her Aunt, giving her a quick peck on the cheek as she passed. Nat and Sarah looked at each other and playfully rolled their eyes.

"Good morning, Sarah", Nat said in an exaggerated way to replace the other greeting that she was given a few seconds ago.

"Good morning Nat", Sarah then snapped her head towards Eleanor who was opening the grill to look at the food, she walked over to her and smacked her hand away before sternly telling her to sit down and wait at the table.

She went and took a place next to an already seated Nat and pouted slightly. She just mimicked her facial expressions, making Eleanor scrunch her face up in fake offence. They were cut off by their silent communications though by a large plateful of food being presented to them. Both women's eyes went wide, and they had shit-eating grins on their faces. "Eat up, big day ahead of us".

After a few giant mouthfuls, Eleanor asked, "So, where are we going today?".

"Thought we could take a drive over to Scafell Pike, spend the day there, I've made a pack-up already so we don't need to worry about starving up there", Sarah added a laugh at the end.

"Oh, that's a great walk, you're gonna love it Nat", Eleanor put her knife down and rubbed her girlfriend's shoulder before getting back to her food.

Nat gave a small nod before tucking into her food again, on the outside she looked relatively normal, but on the inside, she was very excited. She just loved being here, the vibe she got from it made her happy. She felt at home even though she had only been in the cottage for less than 24 hours. Something about being in such a homely place, with someone she felt safe with, and a 'parental figure' making sure all of their needs were being met, made her feel like a kid again - in the Ohio era.

After breakfast had been inhaled, they all got changed into leggings, tees, or tank tops, with walking boots. They also packed suncream and caps as it was a very sunny day, and the two redheads would likely burn within 2 seconds of being outside. Sarah was fine, she always tanned, which she always teased her niece about.

The drive was only about half an hour, which was spent in a constant comfortable conversation. Nat had been expecting to feel slightly excluded as she wasn't family and might not have known how to join in, but she slotted into this small family unit perfectly. With Eleanor being practically raised by her Aunt from a young age, Sarah treated her as if she was her own, and over this trip, she treated Natasha exactly the same. Fussing over whether she was drinking enough, making sure that she was comfortable, smoothing out any creases she noticed on shirts and jackets. It was sweet really. Eleanor kept apologising for this, but Nat kept telling her that it was okay, she was secretly enjoying it.

They soon arrived at a small car park, and whilst Sarah was going to the pay machine to get a ticket for the car, Nat and Eleanor were helping each other with the suncream, it was scorching and they were for sure going to burn.

"Jeez Nat, that's cold", Eleanor jumped when Nat started putting the sun cream on her.

"Yeah, but we don't want you little shoulders to burn, El", she cooed.

"Excuse you, my shoulders are normal-sized".

"Mhm", Nat mumbled, giving her shoulder a peck once she was done, then scrunching up her face in disgust and making a gagging sound.

Eleanor laughed, "Did you forget that you just put suncream on there?".

"Fuck off", she replied before passing the bottle over as she had finished, "My turn".

---

The trio began their ascent, taking in all of the views around them. It really was lovely, they were all enjoying themselves. They were walking relatively slow, as they had all day and didn't plan on getting back until the evening.

When walking up the dirt path, Eleanor kicked a small rock in front of Nat, who just walked over it as though it was nothing. She was confused when she turned to face the younger woman next to her and saw her expression had disappointment painted over her features, "Why do you look like I've just killed your dog or something?".

"Why didn't you kick it?".

Nat frowned, "What?".

"The rock, you walked over it, you're supposed to kick it so that I can kick it again, it's a social convention, Nat".

Sarah, who was a few paces in front of them, stopped and turned around, head tilted slightly and smiled at Nat, "You wouldn't believe she's 24 would you?".

"No, I would not", she smirked. They just received a small whine from Eleanor as she started walking again, the others following suit.

After a minute or so, Eleanor saw a rock roll in front of her, and Nat grinning, so she very excitedly kicked it back in front of Nat as they were walking.

This lasted for about 10 minutes or so, with conversation happening simultaneously, until the rock rolled off of the path and into the grass, "Well that lasted a while", Eleanor said proudly.

"Yeahhh, good job", Nat played along, but Eleanor was oblivious to the sarcasm and just nodded along, taking the compliment.

After more walking, they reached an area off of the path where there were some large rocks sticking out of the grass. Knowing that this is where they normally stop for lunch, Eleanor started heading over, slinging her bag off of her shoulders.

"You aren't going to ask me to kick those are you?", Nat smirked whilst following the other two.

"I hope not", Sarah chuckled, "We're just stopping for some lunch, sweetie".

Eleanor sat on a large rock that had a decently flat surface, and patted the small space next to her, wanting to be close to Nat. It was certainly not big enough for two people, but Nat sat down anyway. Sarah sat on one opposite them and tossed them some sandwiches and crisps that she pulled out of her bag.

They all quietly munched on their ham salad sandwiches and snacks before carrying on their march to the top of the hike.

After 20 minutes, they came across a wooden bridge that was over a mini-waterfall, the water cascading down stones and rocks on the mountainside. They stood looking over at the land at the bottom, and when Eleanor turned around and started looking towards the top, Nat had a grand idea.

She picked her up from the waist and using a fair amount of momentum swung her around as though she was going to throw her off of the other side of the bridge, making Eleanor let out a very high-pitched squeal.

Nat and Sarah were in fits of laughter, whilst Eleanor was trying to recover from having the absolute life scared out of her, "You're an ass, Romanoff!".

"Come onnn, you didn't think I was really going to murder you do you?", she asked whilst wrapping an arm around Eleanor's waist, and pinching her side slightly in amusement.

"Well, no-".

"If I was going to, I would not do it in front of your Aunt, I'd be found out immediately, you're a spy you should know this", she smirked.

Sarah shook her head in amusement, "Nat don't throw Ellie down a mountain, and Ellie, stop being a wimp and let's go". Eleanor opened her mouth to say something in protest but was cut off by Nat.

"Yes, ma'am". Nat then grabbed Eleanor's hand and started dragging her along, following Sarah.

---

Once the ground was losing all sight of grass and started turning into pure rocks and stones, they knew that they were nearing the top. At the top was a circle made from large cobbled bricks, the height of it was taller than the average person's. So, they gave each other boosts up so that they could sit on the edge. Once up, they again took in the view around them.

"Mmk, picture time!", Eleanor announced, pulling her phone out. She took a nice selfie of the three of them, making sure to get a nice background in it.

When Sarah jumped down, Eleanor pulled her phone out again to get some photos of just her and Nat. "Really, more?".

"Yes Nat, we've been together for over 2 years and yet you still ask silly questions like that?", she giggled, and Nat couldn't help but mumble something in agreement.

After a few nice photos, Nat pinched Eleanor's ribs meaning that there was one where Nat's smile had a slight smirk to it, and the other was laughing in slight shock. This one ended up being Nat's favourite photo of the day, and she secretly set it as her wallpaper when they eventually got back to the cottage later in the day.

"We should head back now so that we can actually have dinner tonight!", Sarah shouted up to them. So, they both jumped down and the family started the rest of the walk down to the bottom, all very tired after today's activities.

---

The week flew by and was filled with more walks and visiting tourist attractions. Just as predicted, it rained heavily during the second half of the week, but this did not stop the three of them from having fun, they had dinners at nice pubs, and had the occasional rainy walk to show Nat different areas of the town that were important in Eleanor growing up, such as her old school, and a lot of rainy day board game time. It was a really nice break from their hectic lives.

But, all good things must come to an end, and before they knew it they were back on the flight home, after a very teary goodbye with Sarah.

"I really had an amazing time детка, thank you", Nat said seriously. It had been one of the best times of her life, and she would cherish the memories forever.

"I'm glad, I knew you'd like it, the views are amazing, right?".

Nat chuckled, "Yeah, but I more meant for making me feel at home with your family".

Eleanor smiled, "It's our family, has been for a while now".

Eleanor gave a small awkward laugh when Nat didn't reply to her and just stared her in the eyes, "You're staring".

"You're my everything, I love you so much", Nat rushed out, just needing to say the words.

"I love you too". Nat beamed, she still got butterflies at those words, even though Eleanor said them multiple times a day. She snaked her hand across Eleanor's back and held her waist, pulling her into her side, wanting to be closer. When Eleanor placed her head on Nat's shoulder, Nat tilted her head to rest on top of hers, and the two sat like that for the remainder of the flight, bringing each other comfort.
