Scarletts pov:

I'm shooting all this week and there is a huge heatwave so it's just so hot and I feel gross all the time. Y/n has just finished college for the year and is on a study week and I'm just letting her get on with it. She went to the dentist earlier so I'll phone her on my lunch break.

Scar: " hey baby how are you?"

You: " I'm good how are you?"

Scar: " just a bit hot, everything alright at the dentist"

You: " yep everything is all good. Also I am working a 12 hour shift at work on Wednesday because everyone has covid and is off so they need someone to cover"

Scar: " y/n. Really. Have you thought about it. Your going on holiday with your dad next week..... we are seeing Nan on Saturday. My god you are so selfish. You are putting everyone at risk by going in. This week is a study week. You aren't supposed to be going out, you are supposed to be STUDYING. For fuck sake, I let you start to have a bit of control over your life then you go do this. I cannot believe it I despair with you. Goodbye"

She didn't think about this at all. Her nan is vulnerable to covid so I'm going to have to cancel and it's her birthday. And the amount of money her dad would've wasted if they can't go on this trip. She doesn't think about anything. I am so angry with her.

I give up with her. She can go all pyscho on me, I'm just trying to help out at work because they have no one. What's so bad about that?

- time skip-

I'm sitting at home and Colin and Rose are cooking dinner together and I'm just dreading when mum gets in.

Colin: " you ok.... Don't worry about her, you have done it now, no more harm can be done. Own your decision ok."

I am go upstairs to just prepare myself, mama is scary when angry.

The front door slams and I hear Colin and mum shouting.

Scarlett: " CAN I REALLY NOT LEAVE YOU TO JUST COOK DINNER. ITS NOT THAT DIFFICULT"

Colin: " let's just eat. Y/N DINNER"

I go downstairs and go outside so we can eat together. I sit down and it's silent.

Scarlett: " I cannot listen to your chewing Colin."

She walks off with her plate back inside.

- time skip-

I'm sitting in my room talking to Rose about her day at school.

Scarlett: " so.... IVE CANCELLED WITH YOUR NAN AND IM SO MAD AT YOU. ALL YOU THINK ABOUT IT MONEY LIKE YOUR DAD. I CANNOT WITH YOU. YOU ARE SO SELFISH. THINK ABOUT HOW YOU ARE PUTTING YOURSELF AND EVERYONE ELSE AT RISK AS WELL AS THE HOLIDAY WITH YOUR DAD NEXT WEEK, ALL OF IT WASTED BECAUSE OF YOUR STUPID DECISIONS."

Scarlett: " stand there and don't say anything as per usual. That's it give me your iPad, phone. This is a study week so you can spend the evening studying."

I roll my eyes.

Scarlett: " DONT YOU DARE ROLL YOUR EYES AT ME"

I slam my door and she opens it and says to leave it open. I decide to start with my college work as I have nothing better to do.

I get her points, I do, I didn't think of that. But also I working in a nursing home, they need help. I didn't think of the money, I just wanted to do what was morally right.

I text dad explaining whats happened and he agrees with mum but says he gets where I was coming from and that he's not angry.

Mum has gone out for a walk and rose comes in and then gives me a hug.

Rose: "I don't know what's gotten into her but just leave her be. It's a lose lose situation."

As soon as mum comes back she gives all my stuff back and goes

" apparently I have it all wrong. Here's your stuff back I give up with you"

It was almost sarcastic. I decide to carry on studying because earlier she shouted at me for being arrogant with my grades. I'm not the brightest I got a D C and A* in my last exams. It was unlike me but I was having a bad couple of days.

That evening I just stayed in my room and did my work whilst checking on Rose.

- time skip-

I said night to mum, ignored, I said morning to her today and got ignored. I have another driving lesson today and I'm just not in the mood today.

Driving instructor: " hey y/n"

We are driving around and he can sense something is on my mind.

I tell him and he says mum is maybe going a bit far and he says he could tell something was wrong as my driving was all over. We pull over so I can just calm down for a minute.

We are now driving back towards the house and then I start to lose control of the car a little bit he's trying to help me and we serve and hit a lamppost but on my side of the car. Everything went dark.

Colin's pov:

I'm sitting in the office at home trying to do some work when I get a call from a random number. I decline as normally it's some crazy fan calling. The same number rings again so I pick up.

Colin: " hello"

Dr: " hello is this Colin Jost"

Colin: " yes is there anything I can help you with"

Dr: " your step daughter is currently in the emergency room after a car accident is there any chance you can come down here, she's asking for you"

Colin: " on my way"

I get to the hospital and y/n is lying there with a bandage round her head with cuts and bruises everywhere.

She croaks out: " Colin"

Colin: " hey I'm here what happened baby"

You: " I don't know, is my driving instructor ok"

Colin: " yes I spoke to him and he's all ok and he sends his best wishes, he left when you woke up"

You: " I'm sorry"

Colin: " why are you apologising?"

I stroke her hair.

You: " I'm so useless. Mum hates me now and I've pulled you from work"

Colin: " don't worry about work. Does she know your here"

You: " no"

Colin: " she would be here in a minute if you phone her baby. She cares you and will be kicking herself for not saying goodbye this morning"

Scarlett's pov:

I get a call from y/n's number and answer it.

Scarlett: " what is it?"

She hangs up. I phone Colin.

Colin: " Scarlett what are you doing? Y/n is in the emergency room and has been all day but has been too scared to call you and you answer like that."

Scarlett: " I'm on my way"

Shit. I've been awful.

I run into the hospital and see Colin sitting with her as she's asleep. He looks at me and gives a faint smile.

Arizona Robbins: " hey you must be y/n's mother"

Scarlett: " that's me"

Arizona: " so we are keeping y/n in for observation as she has a minor head injury, she's really managed to avoid something really nasty. However there's some forms I need you to sign if that's ok"

Scarlett: " yeh that's fine"

I stroke my babies forehead.

Scarlett: " I'm so sorry baby."

Colin: " she'll forgive you scar. Don't be so hard on yourself"

Scarlett: " I have to be hard on myself. I over reacted because of the heat and I almost lost her. She gets in a car accident and I didn't even acknowledge her this morning. What if she would've died. She's my everything Colin, my pride, my joy, my happiness. She's my little miracle baby. My first born. I can't believe I was so harsh to her. I'll never forgive myself"

I let out a couple tears.

Colin: " I'll go get rose from school. You stay here. I love you and it'll be ok"

He gives me a kiss on the head and leaves.

I hear a whisper and her hand moves.

You: " I forgive you mama if you'll forgive me"

Scarlett: " oh baby. I'm so sorry"

You: " it's ok. I'm ok. We are ok. No one died"

Scarlett: " did you hear everything I just said"

You: " maybe"

She lets out a little smirk.

She shuffles over and pats the bed gently.

Scarlett: " I don't want to hurt you baby"

You: " I'll scream if you do. It's fine mama"

I get on the bed and she cuddles up to me and Arizona comes and smiles at me. Y/n drifts off into sleep again and arizona comes over.

Arizona: " when she came in she kept saying 'apologise to mama for me". Your one lucky lady. She's special."

Scarlett: " thank you for looking after her"

Arizona: " that's what I'm here for"

A/n: angst to fluff. Based on true events up until the car crash.... Anyways.
