《Far From Perfect》Chapter 19

Nate and I confessed our love to each other one week ago, yet it feels like it was just yesterday.

Time really flies when you're happy and I'm so happy it scares me sometimes. This is all so new to me and it just feels too good to be true. I feel like at any moment, life is going to slap me in the face and ruin what happiness I have but as much as that thought alone scares me, I refuse to let the fear of the unknown hold me back. If I do, I will never experience life how I should and that's why I let Nate sweep me off my feet and I'm so glad I did.

I have only seen Nate a handful of times since we confessed our love to each other during stolen moments when we're both free and off work. It's not enough though. It never is. I miss him like crazy every minute of every day. It probably sounds crazy but I'm crazy for him.

I miss him so much, I was actually tempted to ask him to just sleepover so I could at least see him at night, but I knew better than that. It would be too tempting to have him in my bed so I sucked it up and accepted that all I had with him was those stolen moments and two days. Two days we will not waste one second of.

Today I am up bright and early because Nate and I are going on a date. I have no idea where he's taking me, but no matter where we go, I will be happy just as long as I get to spend the day with him. He told me to dress casual and comfy when we talked over the phone last night, so I decided to go with a pair of black jeans and a white V-neck, but I feel like it's too plain. It needs a pop of color. I look through my closet and find the perfect thing, my long-sleeved red and black plaid shirt. I grab it from my closet and tie it around my waist. I put on red chucks and black rose-shaped earrings to complete my outfit and turn in front of the mirror, feeling happy with the way my body looks in my clothes.

This feeling...it's new to me. I used to hate how I looked in my clothes, and now I love how my clothes fit me. The crazy thing is, I haven't lost any weight or exercised to tone my body, I just feel good in my own skin and that's a major change for me. One that I never expected to happen, but it has, and it all started when Nate wedged his way into my heart without me even realizing it.

I never really gave it any thought until now but Nate has really helped me see myself differently.

I brush my hair that is still slightly damp from my shower and let it finish air-drying while I work on my makeup. I decide to keep my makeup simple just like my outfit and add a light shimmery eyeshadow to my eyelids that is subtle but pretty. I finish off my eyes with some eyeliner and mascara and wrap up my whole look with some light pink lipgloss. It's just what I need to complete my look.

I smile at my reflection and nearly jump out of my skin when I hear someone say, "you look beautiful." I turn towards the door and see Nate leaning on the doorframe with a grin etched on his lips. He's clearly amused by my reaction.

"How did you get in here?" I ask, feeling slightly annoyed with him for sneaking up on me.

"Your front door was unlocked," he states matter of factly.

"Oh," I respond, feeling stupid. Of course, it was unlocked. How else would he get in here?

"Am I going to have to start calling you every night to make sure you lock it?"

"No, I left it open for you," I lie and he sees right through my lie.

"Sure you did."

"Okay, you caught me. I forgot to lock it when I went outside in the morning," I admit. "I missed you," I add, trying to making him forget all about my door.

"I missed you more," he responds.

He closes the distance between us and slides his fingers in my hair before pressing a gentle kiss to my lips. I sigh into his lips, relieved that I can finally kiss him again. He starts to pull away from me, but I am not having it. I bite his bottom lip and pull it with my teeth, eliciting a groan from him. I look into his electric blue eyes and see pure lust reflected in them. I am playing with fire and right now, I'm not afraid to get burned.

He presses me closer to him and rips his lip from between my teeth. I watch him run his tongue over his bottom lip and nearly moan from the sight. He's teasing me and I am enjoying every second of it.

I bite my bottom lip to keep from moaning and notice his eyes light up with desire.

"Keep that up and we're not getting out of here," he warns me, making my heart go into overdrive.

"Is that a threat?"

"It's a fact," he says nonchalantly.

"Oh," I deadpan.

"Oh is right. Now, do you want to go or do you want to stay and continue this?" he asks, giving me an out. I think about it and I like the idea of staying with him in my room all day but I also really want to go on a date.

"Let's go."

"You made the right choice. Otherwise, I would have lifted you in my arms, tossed you on that bed, and well...you can imagine the rest," he tells me with a wink, making me gulp.

"I-I'd rather not," I stammer, feeling my cheeks blush. The last thing I want is to let my mind wander. I am in no way ready for anything beyond kissing, but my imagination is a wild thing and if I let it go, it will go places I don't want it to go...Yet.

"I love it when you blush," he kisses me on the cheek, making me blush a deeper red.

"Okay, enough! Let's go."

"Your wish is my command," he tells me with a wink and laces his fingers in mine before pulling me out of the bathroom. "What do you need from here?" he asks me, looking around my room.

"My phone and my purse. They're on the bed." He grabs them and hands them to me.

"Let's get going." He leads the way out of my room and past Mia's room, where she is still sound asleep, and before I know it we are on the road, heading who knows where.

We arrive at our destination about an hour later and I feel surprised doesn't even cut it. I am shocked because this is the last place I ever expected Nate to bring me for our date, but here we are, standing outside the gates of the LA County Fair.

"Surprised?" Nate asks me as we walk up to the ticket line.

"I am. This is the last place I ever expected you to bring me," I admit, still in shock.

"Why?"

"I don't know. I just have a hard time envisioning you here. I feel like you're too good for this place."

"Not at all. I love this place. I used to come here as a kid, but once I got older I stopped coming, so when I heard it was back I knew I wanted to bring you."

"Am I the first girl you've ever brought here?"

"You are," he answers with a boyish smile.

"I'm glad I'm your first."

"Me too."

"You want to know something?"

"What?"

"I always wanted to go to the fair with a boyfriend," I admit with an embarrassed smile.

"And now you have." He gives me a chaste kiss on the lips, seeing as we are surrounded by families on every side. It wouldn't exactly be appropriate for us to make out while kids stare, so he keeps it PG and I'm thankful for that because I'm not sure I would be able to resist him if he tried deepening our kiss. "I hope you're ready to spend all day here."

"I'm more than ready," I respond excitedly.

"We can stay here as long as you want."

"I don't care how long we stay as long as I'm with you."

"The same goes for you, babe. I could spend all day and night here just as long as I'm with you, but without you, this place just wouldn't be the same." He kisses me again and I nearly sigh into his lips but stop myself. I don't need people giving me weird looks.

"I love you," I whisper into his lips. I feel his lips curl into a smile and look up into his eyes to see that he's looking at me. I stare right back and feel mesmerized by his beautiful baby blues.

"I love you too, babe," he whispers back and gives me a kiss on the forehead before wrapping his arms around me. I hear someone clear their throat from behind us, and look ahead to see that the line has moved up.

We apologize and scoot up but we don't let go of each other. We are happy spending time together even if it's just in line. "We're almost there," he tells me and I jump up in his arms out of sheer excitement and hit his chin in the process. He groans in pain and I immediately feel the blood drain from my face.

"Oh my God! I'm so, so sorry, babe!" I apologize and he just smiles as he rubs his chin. I replace his hand with mine, and gently massage his chin.

"You just called me babe," he points out, completely ignoring the fact that I had just hit his chin pretty hard like the total klutz I am.

"I did? Oh my God, I did!" I realize embarrassed and feel my cheeks blush. I cover my cheeks with my hands, and he quickly pulls them down to my side.

"Don't hide your blush."

"But...," I stammer and he cuts me off.

"But nothing. You called me babe on accident. It's not a big deal. Well it is to me because I liked hearing it, but that doesn't mean I expect you to start calling me babe," he tells me with a smirk and I just nod, not knowing what to say. "Stop thinking so hard about it. It's not a big deal," he reassures me and gives me a kiss on the forehead before leading me to the front of the line. "You can call me anything you want."

"Even Natie?" I tease and he shakes his head.

"Anything but that."

"Don't worry. I wouldn't use your sister's nickname for you anyways. That would be weird."

"Very weird," he adds with a laugh.

"I think I'll stick to Nate for now, because I've never used pet names, so it takes some getting used to."

"That works for me," he tells me as our turn finally comes to purchase our tickets. We walk up to the ticket booth and Nate buys two tickets for us. He takes my hand in his and leads the way to the entrance, where we quickly pass through the ticket scanner and inspection.

"Ready to get this date started?" Nate asks me with so much enthusiasm I can't help but smile.

"Heck yes! Let's go!" I respond excitedly, making him chuckle. I love seeing him so happy and am glad that I'm the reason he laughs and smiles.

We make our way into the fairgrounds and eat a quick bite before going off to explore and as soon as we start walking around, the judgmental looks and whispers start. I try so hard to ignore them but I struggle because almost everywhere I look, I see people whispering to each other while giving us weird looks. They're probably wondering why Nate's with me and sometimes I can't help but wonder the same thing myself, but today I don't want to think about that. I want to think about us and the wonderful man I have by my side.

"Ignore them," Nate tells me, taking me by surprise. I assumed he hadn't noticed the stares and the whispers, but clearly, he did and even though it didn't faze him one bit, he could tell it affected me even if I didn't say it out loud. He turns to me and looks at me seriously. "I know sometimes it's hard to ignore all the stares and the whispers but try. For me," he pleads.

"I'll try."

"That's all I ask." He stops me to kiss me on the forehead and I close my eyes and sigh.

"I love you."

"I love you too," he says and leans his forehead against mine. "Those girls and women who are staring and whispering things are just green with envy because they will never have what you have."

"And what is that?"

He lifts my chin and makes me look at him. "Your beauty. It radiates from the inside out and they can see that and they want to stifle it, but don't ever let anyone dim your light. You hear me?"

"I won't," I promise and he kisses me hard.

I stumble, not expecting so much force behind his kiss and he grips my waist, pulling my hips towards him. I loop my arm around his shoulders and he takes advantage and lifts me into his arms. I yelp in surprise and quickly wrap my legs around him, holding on for dear life. I catch the stares of many and turn back to Nate to see that he has a big Cheshire grin on his lips.

"You should have warned me."

"Now what would be the fun in that," he says with a laugh as he slides his fingers in my hair and pulls me towards him to kiss me. I feel his legs bump into something and throw out my arms to the sides, thinking he's going to drop me for a second, but then I feel my butt touch something soft and prickly. I look down in confusion and realize he's set me down on a big pile of straw that is set up for visitors to sit on. "You didn't actually think I was going to drop you, did you?" he asks amused and I smack him playfully.

"I did actually. I thought you tripped or something."

"I'm not clumsy like some people."

"Are you calling me clumsy?" I respond defensively and he chuckles.

"No, never," he says with a laugh before sitting down next to me.

As soon as he sits down, we sink down into the big pile of straw that is strewn everywhere, but he doesn't seem to mind that we're almost on the ground. He turns towards me and slides his fingers back in my hair. "Now where were we?" He pulls me back in for a kiss and I close my eyes, relishing what I think will be a gentle kiss, but realize he wants more when he licks my bottom lip. I give into him and kiss him back fervently when someone yells at us to get a room.

Our little bubble bursts and I pull away.

"We have to stop. We can't do this here. There are kids in the vicinity."

"Their parents can cover their eyes," he responds and starts to pull me back towards him, but I pull away.

"No, not here," I insist and he finally lets me go.

"Then where?"

"Follow me." I stand up and offer him my hand. He takes it with a big smile on his face and I help him up.

"Where are you taking me?" he asks curiously as he brushes straw off my back and my butt like it's no big deal, yet I'm dying on the inside.

"Thanks," I say embarrassed.

"You're welcome." He turns his back to me, wanting me to brush the straw off him. I grab the hem of his shirt and pull on it, trying to shake it off but it doesn't work that well. "You have to brush it off with your hand."

"Fine." I brush the straw off his back and lower my hand towards his butt but don't touch him.

"It's not going to bite you," he says amused, noticing my hesitation.

"I know," I say with an embarrassed groan and quickly brush off his butt.

"See? That wasn't so hard," he says with a laugh and starts to turn towards me but before he can, I smack him hard on his ass and he hisses through his teeth.

"That especially wasn't hard," I say amused and he groans.

"I'm gonna get you back for that," he threatens and I smile.

"I wanna see you try."

"I will. Just you wait," he says with a wicked grin. He intertwines our hands and I smile. "Where to now?" he asks as he falls into step beside me as we walk through the throng of people who came to the fair.

"Do you trust me?" I ask him and he stops walking.

"Is that even a question? Of course, I trust you."

"Then stay here. I'll be right back," I tell him, leaving him by a vendor that sells funnel cakes. He seems unsure about letting me go on my own, but it's not like I'm a kid or something. I look around and find the nearest booth to purchase tickets for the rides. Luckily for me, no one is in line when I get there, so I walk right up to the girl who is behind the window and smile at her.

"Hi, I would like to buy some tickets."

"How many?"

"I honestly don't know. I want tickets for my boyfriend and I. Do you have a deal where we can go on as many rides as we want?"

"Yeah, we actually sell some bracelets that give you access to all the rides."

"Perfect. I'll take two please."

I pay for the bracelets and thank the girl before making my way back to Nate. I see him from afar and watch him as he stares out into the crowd of people, probably wondering where I am. I stop and admire his handsome profile and realize for the umpteenth time that I am lucky to call him my boyfriend.

I stare at him longer than I plan to, not realizing how much time has passed when I feel his eyes connect with mine. I smile, feeling giddy that he has found me where I stand between the crowd of people and watch as he takes the first step towards me with the cutest smile on his face.

I take one step, then another, and another until I meet him halfway and when I finally am within reach, I stand on my tiptoes, throw my arms around his neck and kiss him. He pulls me into him, resting his hands on my bare love handles. Normally, I would be self-conscious about showing my love handles, but right now I could care less that my shirt has slid up my back.

Nate rubs his thumbs gently over my sides, adding a sensual touch to the kiss. I nearly moan against his lips but resist the urge, knowing full well that kids could be passing by. That's really the only thing that keeps me from fully letting myself go with Nate.

I break the kiss moments later, needing to catch my breath. Nate is no better off. He is breathing heavily. You can see it in the way his shoulders rise and fall.

"That was...," he starts but doesn't finish his sentence.

"Spectacular," I offer and he nods his head.

"Definitely."

"We should do this more often," I suggest.

"What? Kiss each other like we're the only two people in the world?"

"Well, that and do our own things so when we reunite we can have the most passionate kiss ever," I say with a big toothy smile.

"I don't need you to leave my sight to want to kiss you the way I did. I want to kiss you like that all the time."

"Then why don't you?" I wonder and he sighs.

"Because I need to restrain myself when it comes to you. I want you in ways you can't even imagine," he confesses, making my heart rev. "But please don't take this the wrong way. I want to wait until you're ready. Until then, I promise to respect your wishes and to wait as long as you need," he promises me, making my heart hammer against my chest.

"How'd I get so lucky?" I muse.

"What do you mean?"

"You're willing to wait for me. Not many guys would do that."

"But I would. I would do anything for you."

"I know and that's something I love about you, Nate. You're so selfless and always put others before yourself. I really don't know what I did to deserve you."

"If anyone is lucky, it's me. My life was chaotic before you walked into it and now that I have tasted what life is like with you, I don't think I could ever go back to a life where you're not in it."

"Honestly, I feel the same way," I admit as a tear rolls down my cheek. "I don't think I could resist if you ever left me, which probably makes me sound crazy and clingy, but I just can't imagine a life without you either."

He smiles and wipes the stray tear from my cheek and places a chaste kiss on my lips. "You're my crazy girl and I love you for it," he tells me, making me laugh. "And I wouldn't change you for anything or anyone in the world."

"Not even for your celebrity crush?"

"Nope. I forgot all about her the moment I met you," he tells me with a smirk.

"I wouldn't trade you for the Winchester brother's either," I respond, remembering the time we watched Supernatural in my living room.

"I'm glad to hear that," he says with a laugh. "I'm assuming you consider me the most handsome of the three."

"I never said that."

"Oh, so you're saying I have some competition?"
