《A Stranger's Touch》Too Late To Cry

You know those kind of situations you just wish the earth will open up and swallow you? Turns out I'm in one of those now.

"And what the hell are you doing here?"

Just when I thought her eyes were cold and emotionless, even her words turned out to cut deep.

"Kay, please let me explain."

She scoffed and I could almost swear she was about to slam the door on my freaking face.

"Let you explain? You lost the chance to do that."

Just when I thought I still had the chance to right my wrongdoings and make things go back to how they were

"Goodbye Ria."

And there goes my apology and chance at making things right because she really did slam the door on my freaking face.

I stood there like a statue, only that I was feeling all sorts of emotion unlike a statue that doesn't feel a thing.

Oh, how I wish I was a statue right now.

Deciding to go to the Kims was one thing, but actually standing in front of their door was another thing entirely. I was totally freaking out.

Maybe this is such a bad idea.

With my eyes shut, I mustered the little courage I had left and pressed the doorbell. It didn't take a minute before the door flew open.

I heard a gasp, followed by what seemed to be a sob. I opened my eyes to see Mrs. Kim crying in front of me. I couldn't hold back my tears either.

"Mrs. Kim." I forced out before throwing my arms around her.

Now this really feels like home.

----------------------------------------------------------

Getting Mr. Tim's forgiveness was even harder than I thought. He wouldn't talk to me or even acknowledge my existence in their house. I really messed up.

And God, I'm not even allowed to cry because if I'm being honest with myself, then I know it's too late to cry.

Kay and I haven't spoken since she slammed the door on my face. I was solely the one at fault, leaving suddenly and then showing out of nowhere at her doorstep. I owed her as much time she needed to process the whole thing.

But I won't give up. I miss my best friend so much and I need her presence in my life.

"Good morning Mrs. Kim." I greeted, kissing her cheek before joining her at the table for breakfast.

"Good morning sweetheart. Did you sleep well?"

"Yes, I did." I smiled

"Thank you very much."

"I'm glad you did sweetheart." she smiled, patting my hair and it made me feel like a little kid again.

"What's for breakfast?" my lips broke into a uncontrollable grin.

Mrs. Kim is one great cook.

"Banana pancakes and french toast." she said excitedly.

"Wait here darling, I'll make you a cup of coffee."

I was still grinning from ear to ear when Mr. Tim walked into the dining area. Immediately he saw me, his expression went cold and he went back into the room.

What a great way to start the day.

I had breakfast with Mrs. Kim before heading to Kay's. I wasn't totally confident it would yield a good result but I knew I had to try.

Pressing the doorbell, I waited for her to open the door and she did.

"Kay." I muttered softly.

"Go away." she fired at me immediately.

She was going to slam the door on my face again so I blocked the action with my hand, getting hurt in the process.

"Oh my God, you fool." her eyes went wide and she released her hold on the door.

"Are you hurt?

Be wise Ria, this is your chance.

So I did the one thing I felt would get me back my bestfriend- I flipped my acting switch on.

"It really hurts Kay." I said, faking a groan.

I could see how scared and confused she was. She didn't know what to do.

"You didn't break a bone, did you?" she asked, staring at me with wide eyes.

"Oh, I think I just did." I groaned loudly this time, grabbing my arm.

Kay narrowed her eyes at me and I looked away immediately, still faking my distress and hoping I don't get caught.

"You little piece of shit!" she hit me hard on the arm.

"So you were faking it huh? Get out. Just go away."

Before she could lock me out again, I found my way into her apartment quickly.

"Look Kay, I'm deeply sorry. Please just forgive me already." I pleaded, following her to the kitchen.

She gulped down a glass of water and I almost swore the poor glass wasn't making it from how hard she hit it on the cabinet.

Oh bummer! She's really pissed.

"You hurt me Ria. Fucking hell, you really hurt me." she cried.

I could see the pain in her eyes and I couldn't stop my tears from falling. I really messed up this time.

"You left out of the blue and now you are back? We didn't talk for months Ria." she cried out and just when I thought my heart couldn't break any further, turned out I was wrong.

"You think coming back now would make things go back to how they were? I'm sorry but no."

She was right, I did mess up big time. Seeing my best friend in so much pain wasn't something my heart could bear.

She needs more time and I won't give up.

"You have every right to be mad at me Kay." I swallowed down the sudden lump that formed in my throat.

"You bet I do." She choked back a sob, new tears forming in her eyes.

My heart was breaking along every pain I put her through, knowing she didn't deserve any of it.

"I just hope that one day, you find it in your heart to forgive me. Life hasn't been easy on me and I know I hurt you and everyone terribly. But Kay I'm deeply sorry and please forgive me." I cried.

"I really miss my best friend and I really really need you in my life."

She turned around, facing another direction and that was my cue to leave.

"It's fine, I'm leaving."

With heavy heart, I found my way back to the Kims. Mr. Tim was sitting on the sofa and immediately he saw me, he stood up and I knew exactly what he was planning to do.

Since I arrived, he refused to share the same space with me. If I was sitting on the sofa watching Tv, or eating at the dining area, and he walked in, he would turn around and go back to his room. He doesn't want to see me, or talk to me. At least, I've not been thrown out yet.

"No, stay Mr. Tim. I'll go into the room, you don't have to leav-"

My words were cut short immediately Mr. Tim came to me and gave me a hug. Uncontrollable tears started pouring from my eyes. It was both tears of joy and sadness.

"My little rascal. I really did spoil you too much." he said softly, patting my hair before placing a kiss there. The gesture made me cry even more.

"I'm so sorry Mr. Tim." I begin to cry, clinging to him tightly.

"Ssh! It's okay. I know it hasn't been easy on you and I shouldn't have gotten so mad at you."

"No Mr. Tim, you had every right to be mad at me. I really messed up this time."

"Just don't do anything stupid like disappearing without telling us again." he warned.

"I won't Mr. Tim." I said, smiling through my tears.

"Pinky promise?"

"I promise."

Mr. Tim and I locked fingers and I smiled genuinely this time. It felt as if a part of my burden shifted away. Not completely, but still it felt good. It made me feel like I found a new hope.

"So you saw Dante and a woman on the billboard?" Mrs. Kim asked while serving tea.

I muttered a 'thank you' and placed the tea on the coffee table in front of me.

"Yes, and I wonder who exactly she is." I shrugged.

"His wife-to-be obviously." Mr. Tim said casually, earning a hard slap on the arm from his wife.

"But it's the truth darling. She said it was written boldly on the Billboard that they were getting married, or am I wrong Ria?"

"L.A's Legendary wedding." I pronounced slowly before sipping some tea.

"It was written boldly on the Billboard."

"We haven't seen or heard from him since you left. All we heard was he buried himself in work." Mr. Tim uttered, shaking his head.

"This sudden marriage of his is really a surprise."

"But who is this lady Dante's getting married to?" Mrs. Kim asked the same question for God-knows-what time.

"Lily Morgan, heiress of Spark Industries."

"The heiress of Spark Industries?" The three of us said in conjunction.

"Wait who-"

"I answered your question Mrs. Kim." Kay walked in, leaving me totally speechless.

"Kayla, sweetheart." Mrs. Kim's face lit up with joy immediately she saw her.

"Hi guys." she went to the old couple and gave them kisses on the cheek.

She came to me afterwards, taking a seat beside me on the sofa.

"Kay I-"

"I forgive you best friend." she smiled, tears staining her cheeks.

"OMG, Kay." I gasped, covering my mouth with both hands.

"Come here love." She drew me in and gave me a tight hug.

"God, I missed you so much."

"I missed you too best friend." I laughed through my tears.

"We have a lot of catching up to do." Her lips broke into a wide grin.

Oh, I know.
