《A Stranger's Touch》I Think I Just Had A One-night Stand

I woke up feeling this sharp pain in the head. I tried ignoring the pain just to go back to sleep, but the pain just wouldn't stop. The pain is one thing, but the bed is way too comfortable...too comfortable, it doesn't feel like my own. My lips slowly form into a smile, and I embrace the sweet comfort of the bed.

Who knew life could be this good?

The sharp pain hit like waves again and I wince. Brushing my eyes with the back of my hands, my vision seems blurry at first but I manage to get myself up into a sitting position.

That's when I see it... the bed. It looks nothing like mine, it is totally different. I just knew it, my bed has absolutely zero comfort to give.

Did someone change my bed while I was sleeping?

A yawn escapes past my mouth, and I do some stretching.

I'm naked.

As in nakey-nakey-naked according to bad gal riri. I secure my body with the blanket, clutching onto it with my hands like my dear life depends on it. I try to calm myself, taking a proper look of the whole place.

This-isn't-my-room-what-the-hell?

The room is well organized and freaking huge! The room alone, is like the size of my whole apartment. I am totally freaking out. What if I got kidnapped by sex traffickers or even worse?

Or maybe that's not the case, finding my dress neatly folded and placed on a chair positioned in the corner of the room. I put on my dress quickly without wasting any time. I find my silver heels beside the chair, and quickly grab it, not even bothering to put it on.

I try so hard to remember the details, any detail at all. For instance, how the hell I got into this hotel or whatever place this is. It doesn't really look like a hotel though. Huge? Yes. But it also has this homey touch. I start biting down my nails, pacing back and forth in the room.

Unhealthy? Yes, it's more of a nervous gesture.

And that is when I see this flashing image of a pair of grey eyes, extremely beautiful eyes and how someone threw me over their shoulder, running out of a place filled with people freaking out as if they were trying to survive in a zombie apocalypse.

Reality finally dawns upon me.

"I just had a one night stand." I exclaim, freezing on the spot.

Grabbing my stuffs quickly, I decide it's time I get the hell out. Tiptoeing like a thief about to steal a national treasure from the museum, I manage to get myself out of the room. I take the first flight of stairs I stumble upon, not giving a damn about where it leads to, and that's when I realize that I'm in a freaking mansion.

Holy mother of hot sauce and macaroni. A mansion??

The first floor display the more formal parts of the mansion, with really high ceilings including the living room, the large dining space, the hall and a well equipped kitchen.

Damn, Mr. Ben Grimm sure have great taste.

The whole place looks extremely stylish. I never knew he was this loaded, and to my utmost surprise there is no single soul in the mansion. I wonder what he does for a living.

Did I just hear the door open? Where on earth am I supposed to hide now, and who the hell is coming through the freaking door?

Without thinking twice, I hide behind one of the couches—- really expensive looking ones to be honest. My fingers want to feel them badly, but no way am I letting my fingers get me in trouble. I peep just in time to see a woman walk in. She's wearing some sort of uniform. Perhaps, she's a domestic worker?

Honestly, I couldn't care less. I just want to get far from the mansion as fast as I can. My opportunity finally arrives immediately I see her go up the stairs. I didn't waste a second, I dash out of the mansion like a lunatic.

The first thing I did when I got home is call Kay. I need to know she's alright after what happened the previous night.

My poor friend, what if she got dragged away by some psycho?

Just the mere thought is scary enough. I mean she couldn't have gotten shot, right? I dial her number hoping she would pick the damn phone and tell me she's okay. Thankfully, she did pick the call on the third ring.

"Kay, are you okay?" I ask immediately, my voice louder than intended.

"Ria?" She yawns.

"Are you hurt? Is everything okay? Where are you?" I ask quickly, worried something bad might have happened to her.

I start to feel impatient when I didn't hear her speak. I start biting down my nails, desperately hoping my best friend isn't in danger.

"Kay?" I call impatiently.

"Baby, stop. I'm on the phone with Ria." She chuckles.

Is she with someone? Shawn?

"Kay!" I shout.

"I'll talk to you later, Ria. I'm fine okay?" and she drops the call.

Yes, she did just that.

I can't believe it. I was worried sick when in fact, my best friend is doing perfectly fine and of course definitely with a man. I assume it's Shawn but with Kayla Garette, you can never be too sure. I rush to my room to get aspirin before I lose my head to the pain that keeps rushing in like waves.

I seriously hate hangovers. I didn't even bother to shower, I jump straight in bed.

I slept for hours! Cyndi Lauper's girls just want to have fun playing, woke me up from my sleep.

I really need to sue some neighbors for nuisance. Just why on earth would anyone detest allowing me sleep in peace? There's also this sudden vibration that makes me think an earthquake is about to occur. My eyes fly open almost immediately at the thought of earthquake occurrence. Getting out of bed, I realize that my damn phone has been ringing the whole time. Cyndi Lauper's girls just want to have fun is in fact, my phone's ringtone.

Now, how did I forget that?

"What is it?" I yell into the phone.

"Can you please open the door already?"

I drop my phone, going to answer the door. Then I decide she really needs to pay for her sins. You know, making me worried over nothing? Actually, I should get my blood pressure checked later.

I go to the kitchen to make myself a cup of coffee for my hangover. I tidy up the mess I made on the kitchen counter, before going to get the door. That took approximately ten minutes. I didn't even make her wait for so long.

I open the door, meeting a startled Kay. Raising a brow, I take a sip from my cup of coffee then I back away from the door to let her in.

"Look at you my friend, aren't you the definition of a living mess?" She shut the door, joining me on the sofa. "You look like shit."

"How did you get out of Wild Cats last night?"

"I left with Shawn. We looked everywhere for you but you were nowhere to be found, honey. I came to the conclusion that you left with a man." She winks, grinning from ear to ear like she won a lottery.

"What's funny, Kay? I was so worried about you. I thought something bad had happened to you." I say seriously.

"Aww, honey I'm fine. I was so worried about you too." She tells me, pulling me in a hug.

Thank God I placed the cup of coffee on the table already, last thing I need is hot coffee spilling all over my body after all that happened to me.

"You?" I scoff. "You seemed really occupied when I called."

"Oh, that was Shawn. I spent the night at his place." She blushes.

"Mm." I simply nod.

"What's wrong? You seem a little bit off." She pouts, holding both my hands in hers.

"Last night, I think I might have had a one night stand." I voice in a low tone.

"Oh, really?" She says nonchalantly.

I know she's trying so hard to suppress her laughter, but fails miserably at it anyway. She later notices the irritated look I'm throwing her way.

"What?"

"I just told you I slept with a total stranger. I don't want to jump to conclusion, alright? But I think I might have, and you think it's funny? Thank you very much Kayla Garette, that was really helpful." I roll my eyes.

"Honey, what did you expect me to say? You had a one nightstand, and so what? We went to the club to have fun." She shrugs. "I'm not going to judge you, you know I don't judge."

"Wow! That really helped, thank you." I say sarcastically.

"Was he hot?" She winks.

"What? You know, I have no idea what he looks like. I didn't even see his face because I was too drunk" My voice coming out a bit louder than intended.

I'm having a crisis, and my best friend is treating it like a conversation on beauty tips. What the actual fuck?

"Okay, calm down honey." She sighs. "Tell me everything that happened."

"I was drunk, okay? Then this guy came, and I think we spoke, had a couple drinks. Okay, lot of drinks, but look I don't seem to recollect all that happened right now. I know for sure that when the fight broke out, he was the one that pulled me out." I enumerate.

"Did you two talk before leaving his place this morning?" she asks.

"He was totally MIA! I woke up all alone in a freaking huge mansion, Kay." I scoff, irritation written all over my face. "He didn't even leave a note, what a gentleman."

"A mansion? Wow, so what did you do?" She asks, her eyes widening like I'm narrating a suspense movie.

"I left obviously, duh!" I give her a what-do-you-expect-me-to-do look.

"Right." She rolls her eyes.

"You had a one night stand, fine. Honey, get over it already."

Why am having this whole conversation with Kay like an adult, I have no idea. She and one nightstands are synonymous. To her, it isn't a big deal. She's way too used to it already. She calls it her way of rebounding and I'm not judging her or anything but we are different, she knows that.

"I'm starving. Ria, should we order pizza?" she grins like an idiot.

I open my mouth in astonishment. She isn't helping my situation at all.

"Kay, this is too much." I tell my best friend for the millionth time.

"Come on honey, Shawn doesn't mind at all." and she gives the same reply I've been listening to all day.

Why on earth would Shawn give his black card to Kayla? She just bought about almost everything in one of the most expensive shopping malls, Ivory in LA. We've been to all the sections. The clothing section, makeup, home appliances, lingerie, foot wear, eyewear, you name it. She just doesn't know how to stop.

"Just look at us Kay, both our hands are so full already. Are you sure you need all these?" I raise a brow.

"Look here, honey." She turns to face me when we got to where my car is parked. "My boyfriend doesn't mind me spending his money. He wants me to have only the best things... best clothes, best foods, everything Ria. He doesn't mind at all. Shawn is such an angel, isn't he?"

"Oh I see." I roll my eyes.

"Don't worry, wait till you get yourself a rich boyfriend." She winks.

"Are you guys in a serious relationship? Are things getting serious, Kay?" I ask curiously.

"Let's see where what we have right now leads to. I know Shawn and I are having great fun, that's for sure." She laughs.

"Right, great fun." I scoff.

"Can we put it all in the car already? My hands are starting to feel sore."

"You know what? You do that please, I seriously need to pick this call. It's Shawn, I'm sorry honey." She pleads.

And she makes me do all the work while she talks to her boyfriend. What an interesting world.

"Ria?" I hear someone call my name, the voice sounds really familiar.

I shut the car trunk, turning around to take a look at the person.

Okay, I'm surprised... really surprised.

"Ethan?" I call.

"Yes, the one and only." He smiles before pulling me in for a brief hug.

"How have you been? I thought you and your family moved to New York." I grin, feeling my cheeks start to hurt from how much I faked how happy I am to see him. Not that I'm sad about seeing him again or anything, but I'm just not feeling ecstatic about it either.

"I'm fine as you can see. Work brought me back to LA, I got transferred." He replies.

Oh boy, not the kind of news I expected. This day really is cursed but I wouldn't say that out loud though.

"Oh, really? It's good to be back in LA, isn't it?" I smile.

"Honestly, it feels really good to be back here. I missed you."

Talk about being awkward... he just made the whole thing awkward. Ethan and I dated back in college. I broke things off with him when he was starting to take things a little bit too serious. I didn't need that. I had a lot going on, I still do, a serious relationship a.k.a distraction is the last thing I need. Plus to be honest, he was quite too obsessive and I don't think that's healthy. I heard he and his family moved to New York after college. Who knew we were going to meet again, and in front of Ivory in LA?

"How's your sister? Is she here with you in LA?" I give him a really tight smile, trying to ease the tension.

His sister and I never liked each other by the way. We hated each other's gut.

"She's in New York." He says.

"Oh, okay." I nod.

"So, maybe we can talk over coffee or something?"

"Uhm, actually I would love to but the thing is, I'm here with a friend." I explain. "Next time, maybe?"

"Sure. Definitely." He smiles.

We exchange numbers and say goodbye. I just took a breath of relief when Kay suddenly appears.

"Ah, you scared me." I jump. "What's with the face?"

She's making some weird face where her upper set of teeth is in full display and her lower lip is tucked in her mouth. Weirdo.

"I saw you." She says, wiggling her eyebrows. "Who was he, huh?"

"That was Ethan." I shrug.

"A Ethan, hmm." She continues wiggling her eyebrows.

"Seriously? Now you no longer know Ethan?" I narrow my eyes, observing her.

"And am supposed to know him because?" A confused Kay asks.

"Ethan from college doesn't ring a bell?" I ask and she shakes her head.

"Ethan as in Emily's twin brother?" and yet again she shakes her head.

"Okay, fine. Ethan, as in my ex?" I say through gritted teeth.

"Shut the front door. That was him? He's more handsome now." She gushes.

She goes on and on about how we should get back together and how I'll pop our beautiful kids. I roll my eyes the entire time as she keeps on with her rants and I begin to think my eyeballs might just fall off if I'm not careful.

"Can we please be on our way already?" I ask, about to open the car door.

"Uhm, Ria?" I sense hesitation in her voice.

"What now?" I raise a brow, prepared to hear yet another bomb about to be dropped by my best friend.

"I'm actually going to see Shawn so I won't be coming with you." She says almost reluctantly.

I knew it. I freaking knew it.

"Seriously, Kay?" I give her a what-the-hell look.

Now, I'm about to be ditched by my best friend for a man. The story of my life people.

"I'm truly sorry, honey. I'll be taking my leave now okay? Make sure to separate our stuffs and drop mine at my apartment please? You still remember where I keep the extra key right? See you later, love you."

And she leaves... poor little me standing by the car in nothing but pure astonishment. I've got myself some delivery work to do, thanks to my amazing best friend.

"Just great." I think aloud.
