《Taken》Chapter 45

After realizing they really were claws and Adam confirmed it, my suspicions of earlier were correct. We both now had something else to add to the list of what Liam might be.

It's been a few days since this happened. Right now, Liam was sleeping in his own bed we got him a few days ago. It was against the wall in our room since we didn't have another place to put it unless it went in the play room.

I was searching through an old one, one of many Adam brought me to research. He was looking through a book too sitting next to me. We thought maybe these books would help us find something about Liam but so far nothing. This really was a dead end, how are we ever going to find anything?

I ran my hands through my hair in frustration. Reading through every single creature to possibly find something that matches was hard. We thought we found something a few times but then something wouldn't add up correctly and be wrong. Adam had a better idea of what he might be but he grew up in the supernatural world unlike me. I barely knew anything when it came to this stuff.

"Hey, Mia," I heard Adam say. I glanced at him and saw concern on his face. "What?"

"You should take a break. You've been at this for a long time. We will find answers but not if you're like this. Go talk to Liam how about? He's waking up."

I sighed and agreed, "okay. You're right. I'll go check on him."

When I walked in, I found him sitting up in bed and staring outside. I decided to ask, "hey, Liam?"

He turned his head toward me. "Yeah?"

"Would you like to go visit Storm today?" We've done a few times already and I knew he liked doing it.

His face instantly brightened and he jumped up. "Yes! Let's go visit Storm!"

I smiled and walked with out of the house. It was a nice day today a perfect day to do this. And I was also wondering if I could get some answers about Liam and his parents.

Liam had slowed down over the pass few days after realizing I couldn't keep up which I thought was sweet. That did not mean he didn't have fast moments. He still raced off and climbed trees but it wasn't as dangerous after begging him not to go so high and jump from tree to tree. I still couldn't quite believe this kid could do this, it was surreal.

We made it to the stables a few minutes later and Liam raced toward Storm. I laughed lightly. Liam had taken quite a liking to Storm which I was happy about.

I went to Storm much slower than Liam did and petted his neck. "Hey boy, how you doin'?"

In response, he stepped closer and put his muzzle in my hair. I laughed and leaned away. "Okay, okay." I glanced down at Liam who couldn't quite reach. "Come on Liam. I'll help you."

I picked him up so he could reach Storm. His face brightened again when he could touch the horse. He reached out and petted his snout. "Good Storm," he giggled.

"Want to take him out?" I asked him.

He grinned and yelled, "yeah!" He scrambled down I laughed softly at his eagerness. I grabbed Storms tack and put everything on him before leaving with Liam to the paddock.

I led Storm inside and made him stand still so Liam could climb up. "There you go."

Liam cheered and climbed up the steps in front of him. He insisted doing it himself and he knew he wasn't allowed to jump up on Storm like he did with trees. It would scare Storm and people may start asking questions, ones we don't know the answers to and could not answer.

Once he was on Storm, I moved the steps away and slowly led them around a few times before letting Liam take control. "Go easy, don't go to fast."

"I got it," he reassured me as started trotting on his own. I watched with a smile, he really was getting the hang of it fast. He was also happy, which made me happy.

I let him ride him for awhile and I took a turn too. I was happy to ride Storm again and get some bonding time in. When we finished, we took him back to the stable and put everything away.

"That was fun!" Liam exclaimed on our way back. I agreed with him. I was thinking of a way to ask him about his parents when he yelled, "let's climb that tree!"

He raced toward the tree he was pointing at and I saw it had a limb low enough where I could climb it too. I smiled and ran after him to catch up, "alright, I'm coming."

I reached the tree and started climbing up it after him. He was already a few limbs up. Once I was a good length up the tree. I stopped and sat on a sturdy limb big enough for the both of us. "Hey Liam! Come here!"

He looked down from his spot in the tree and fake pouted, "okay, I'm coming." He climbed back down till he was my level on a branch opposite me and asked, "what?"

I patted the spot next to me. "Here, I want to ask you something."

It didn't take him long to sit beside me. When he did, I asked, "is it okay if I asked what happened to your parents?" Adam and I both knew that they must have recently died if he was lost in the woods. He couldn't have been out there very long.

His face dropped but he nodded, "yeah." He was quiet for a little bit before he continued. "Someone killed them. I don't know who it was but he had a gun. He sneaked behind them and shot them. We didn't know he was there, which is strange because we always know when someone is there. My mom and dad were really good at it. They said nothing got pass them."

If I didn't know any better, I believe hunters shot his parents. Adam told me about them and I knew I didn't like them. "I was I think ten trees away from the person with the gun when it happened. I hid until he was gone and then I ran away. I got lost and then I found you. I'm happy I found you. You are really great."

I smiled, "you're really great too Liam. I'm happy I found you also. You're a great little boy, the best I ever met. Do you want to tell me about your parents?"

He nodded eagerly, a smile coming to his face as he talked about his parents. "Yeah. They were great! My mom was really nice but she almost never let me go. I couldn't leave her sight she said. She had pretty blue eyes like me and so did my dad. He was fun to mess around with. Sometimes their eyes would glow gold and I thought it was so cool. I wanted to do it but they said when I was older. They were fast too, faster than me and they told me I could be the fastest person in he world when I was older. They said I ran really fast for being six. Also, I got to ride on them when they turned into a big animal."

I smiled at the description of his parents. He kept going on talking about them for awhile but I wondered what animal his parents turned into. He didn't say anything about what they were able to do again, but he talked about just them. They sounded like really great people. I was really sorry they were gone.

When he was done talking, I let him climb for a bit more before going home to the tree house.

He went to the TV when we got back and I went to Adam after he was settled. He was now watching Finding Dory. It was a great movie. I loved Pixar and Disney.

I told Adam what I discovered, it wasn't much but turning into an animal definitely narrowed down the possibilities, I just really wanted to know what kind of animal because it would help tremendously. I didn't want to ask him right away though because I may seem to eager and I didn't want that.

"Oh, and there's one more thing. He says he doesn't have any other family." He mentioned that while he talked and I felt more sorrow than before for him. He didn't have other family, he was all alone. I knew though I wasn't going to let him feel alone, I would be there for him so he wasn't.

"That's horrible," Adam agreed, "no kid should be without a family. But it makes sense why we haven't come up with anything at all with someone related to him. We've had so many people on it for the past couple weeks, we should have found something but we didn't. Now it makes sense. And from what you described, I think I may know what he is."

I looked at him with confusion and hope. "You do? What is he?"

"Well, I'm not sure, because I don't know what animal it was his parents turned into but this new information really helps and it is the only thing I can think of that might actually make sense, even though they don't exist anymore, or at least not supposed to. I want to make sure first before I say anything because I'm probably wrong."

This was killing me, him not saying anything about what Liam really was. I really wanted to know but it also made sense why he wasn't saying anything because he believed he was wrong and the creature he was talking about didn't exist anymore, or wasn't suppose to anyway. But he also knew that if he told me I would get my hopes up and if it wasn't true, I would be crushed, which was accurate even though if whatever it was he was hiding would crush me if it wasn't true. I still understood him trying to protect me. My thoughts really were all over the place right now.

"Do you trust me?" he asked.

"I do," I responded immediately, "what are you going to do?"

"We are going to have a visit with my mother."
