《Taken》Chapter 38

Adam's P.O.V.

I left the dungeons when I was finished thankful for it to finally be over. I knew I could not go back to Mia yet though, not in the condition I was in. I needed a shower first to get the smell and blood off of me.

I strode over to the house and up to my bedroom quickly, not affected at all by what happened except I had no reason anymore to worry about that monster hurting my mate. He was gone for good and he paid for what he did. Yes, I was mad, and am still mad at what he did to my beloved but I no longer have to worry about him and that is the best thing of all.

I quickly showered and dressed, making sure all the blood and grim was off of me so nothing would indicate what happened here today. I did not want to freak out Mia more. She probably thought he had already been dead to begin with.

I was not going to be like those other wolves who kept their prisoners they wanted revenge on locked up for a long time because usually they escaped, even with the best security in the world. Nope, not me, I was smarter than that after a history of seeing that happen.

I smiled at the thought of what I put him through. Let's just say Dominic was begging to die when I was through with him, which is something because he never would do that. Now I have my revenge and nothing will ever harm my mate again. I'll make sure of it.

Once I was done, I then raced back to my mate, wanting to stay by her side. While I did this, I made sure things would be taken care of for the next few weeks or for as long as it needed to so I could spend time with my mate and help her through the pain of what she's been though.

I heard laughter and I smiled. She was already feeling better. Lia was helping, which I was happy for. I really wanted to see her smiling face so I climbed up the tree and opened the door where we were living for now.

Honestly, I had no idea what to do when Adam was gone and Lia was here instead. I wasn't completely over my ordeal yet and probably wouldn't for a long time but I needed to be strong. I did not want to become this weak girl I was becoming. I needed to stand up on my own two feet and face everything head on, even though I knew I would be hurt because of it.

Lia has gone through the same thing but worse and much longer. I wasn't even sure how she dealt with it. I wish I knew so whenever I felt alone with no Adam to protect me I didn't feel like breaking down. But I promised myself I would no longer be like this. Of course I will still have weak moments but I needed to try.

I went and hugged Lia once Adam left and held onto her tight. She held on just as tight and we stayed like that for awhile, taking comfort from each other because we knew what it was like to be there. It wasn't really possible to imagine what went on in there if you weren't there because no one can believe someone is actually like that.

After awhile, we let go of each other and moved to the couch. Lia looked around and smiled. "So, this is your place huh? At least away from home where you two can be by yourselves. It's nice. I can tell already your mate is much more romantic than my lunkhead of a mate. He's not much of expression besides always trying to be around me and after finding out I was from there, act like I'm fragile. It's so damn annoying!"

I couldn't help but laugh at that and wondered again how she could be this way after everything she's gone through. She can make light of the situation. "Well, it's better than me because all I seem to be able to do is cling to Adam. He does treat me like I'm fragile but I also feel like it. I don't know how you keep it all together."

"Oh Mia," she rubbed my shoulder in comfort when I looked down to the ground, "it is hard deal with but it gets easier. I've had to deal with it so long and I've come to accept what happened to me. I can't change it and I regret that but I am happy I got to meet you and now have this life with my friend and my mate, even if he is a lunkhead."

I laughed again at the description of her mate, I really couldn't help it. I then asked her to go on and describe her life with him and couldn't help but agree with her about him. Sometimes he wasn't very bright, especially around her but that was most likely due because he was nervous and had no idea how to deal with her situation. Yes, he was very pissed and got angry at what happened, even destroying the room sometimes but never turned his anger to her. He cared for her deeply and became a lost puppy around her a lot.

Time seemed to fly by quickly after this and I turned when I heard the door open. I brightened when I saw my mate and ran to hug him, not because I felt weak, but because I missed him. I was already becoming stronger and Lia has helped me with that. He seemed lighter on his feet like a great weight had been lifted off his shoulders.

When I pulled back, I saw a huge grin on his face causing my face to transform from a smaller one to a big one also. He asked, "what's got you in such a good mood? It's great." He then looked up and saw Lia and thanked her, knowing it was because of her. I could tell easily.

"Nothing, I'm just happy you're back."

"I'm happy I'm back too. Everything has been taken care of. We don't have to worry about anything for awhile. We can stay here as long as you want. We've got nothing to worry about ever again."

I was about to reply when I heard Lia say, "well, this is great and all but I guess I should get going. I should leave you two alone to do whatever you want and get back to mate who is probably flipping out on a tree or tripping over a rock. Who knows with him? He needs to take his anger out on something, at least it's with inanimate objects."

Adam laughed at her description before replying seriously, "he's just mad at himself because he didn't come rescue you earlier. Also he wished he could have been there before it ever happened to you so you never would have had to gone through it."

Lia shrugged, "we can't change it no matter how badly we want to but I'm happy this is the ending I have to my horrible life. It's probably going to better in a few years and for that I'm grateful. I know my life is going to be much better than it was before. Now I just have to live it." She grinned and with that, she disappeared.

After she left, I looked at Adam again and he had a grin on his face and he was just staring at me. I looked at him confused. "What?"

"Are you ready?"

"For what?"

"The rest of our lives. I'm willing to risk the future, as long as it's with you."

My smile grew and I answered, "I am."
