《The Devil's Love》Shadow of Death: Chapter 20: Sarah

All Anton offered as a suggestion was that the dress had to be appropriate for a queen. I looked at dozens of dresses as he took Brannon for a walk around New York. When I was almost done, I was to call him, and he would make his way back. It was kind of cute and a little hot to watch him walk away, pushing Brannon. He had his sexy daddy thang going on, and this mommy liked it very much.

"I want it to be delicate and demure."

The woman nodded thoughtfully.

"It has to be appropriate; my husband has a lot of uh, business associates that will be coming."

"Would you like something like this? It has a sweetheart neckline with a lace overlay that sits as high as the collarbone."

I assessed the dress, full sleeves weren't ideal for the underworld, but at least they were lace. Hopefully, it won't be too hot. Then again, I didn't want to risk it.

"I like the high neckline, but I'm not sure about sleeves. Might be too hot and constrictive."

She nodded and moved a few mannequins down.

"What about this style? High neckline with cap sleeves that would sit just off the shoulder."

"Yes, I think that's better."

With a happy nod, the woman removed the dress and brought it into the dressing room for me, helping me try it on. She kept saying that I was too tiny for it, that it would need to be brought in a lot. I smiled as I said nothing, wanting the dress to fit.

As the last button was done up the woman rounded me, looking on with disbelief.

"It fits." she said perplexed.

That's because I wanted it to fit.

"Maybe it's just deceptive."

She nodded though I don't think she was convinced. After I had been helped out of the dress, the woman left me to redress. I quickly called Anton as I struggled back into my clothes using one hand.

"Hello my lovely wife, are you done so soon?"

"Yep, time to make your way back."

"Alright, see you soon."

I could hear his amusement as he remained on the line.

"Hang up Sarah."

"You first. Bye Anton."

He chuckled. "Bye Sarah and I am hanging up now."

"Okay."

"Really hanging up."

"I'm sure you are. Did I mention that I'm not wearing my shirt?"

It was met with silence and then a humming that sounded like he was rather pleased.

"Sounds absolutely delightful. I'm almost at the shop. Stay indecent, and I'll be in to help you misbehave."

I heard a sharp intake of air from Anton; his hushed tone filled me with worry.

"Get dressed and stay in the dressing room."

The line went dead, and I began to panic, dressing quickly. Ignoring his request, I opened the door and peered through the shop. Outside I could see Gabriel and Anton talking.

I had a problem, Anton might have said for me to stay in here but what could be done for Brannon? Nothing and I hated the feeling of dread that was inside of me. I hated not knowing why Gabriel was out there.

"Oh, are you okay?" The saleswoman smiled brightly at me. "Do you want to look at anything else or shall I finish off the sale?"

"Uh, I'll need everything else thanks."

"Okay, I'll need your shoe size. Come on out, and we can go through the collection."

Warily I stepped out of the dressing room and darted to the seats, hopefully avoiding being seen. The problem was now I couldn't see them, and I had no idea what was going on.

The bell over the door dinged, a broad smile crossed the woman's face as she looked up.

"Your partner has returned, do you want to hide the shoes?"

"No that's fine, just don't let him see the dress. He was very particular about that."

She nodded with a crazy look of love. "I'll go box it up now."

Then she scurried off, thankfully leaving us alone so that I could quiz Anton.

"Why was Gabriel out there?"

"He saw us." Anton shrugged. "Wanted to say hello."

With a huff, he pushed the pram to one side and sat on the seat beside me.

"He asked if we were getting married again and I couldn't exactly say no. I may have invited him."

"Well that's okay, isn't it?"

Anton's lips twitched slightly, offering little in the way of emotions.

"Maybe. It just means that I'll have to invite all of them. I'd hate to think what Michael would do if Gabe got an invite and he didn't."

"Get his nose out of joint?"

He looked at me and chuckled. "Oh, I love it, well done."

I grinned for a moment and looked at Anton. He was lucky, as much as he fought with them, at least he still had them. I wasn't about to invite Allison, but even if I wanted to, I couldn't do it anyway.

Anton leaned back against the seat, momentarily closing his eyes as he sighed. One long and slow breath that summed up his mood.

"He said that there was another verse about us, one that was hidden from everyone, them included."

"How did they find it?"

"When our troubles began, they started searching for the verse about you. They believed that they had the book, but they were not aware that I'd taken it many, many moons ago. Well, not taken it. More like borrowed to read and forgot to return it. The book itself was one of a collection, and they found another vision."

Anton looked up to the woman who was still fussing over packing the dress; he casually slipped a book to me.

"At the marker."

I opened the book and found the verse.

Queen of Hell

In the fourth age at the turning of the tenth moon.

I have seen the vision again, though this time it was more detailed. The vision began the same as before, but I could not see beyond the act of revenge.

Now I can see the Queen who has given birth to the son, completing the trinity of the dominion. All hope lies upon the actions of one; he is too proud to accept defeat easily, too blinded by his need for justice.

Darkness will reign, caused by the son's anger. A child he might be but power he will hold. Wrath is cast upon the land by him, feeling the emotions of his parents and unleashing it upon those who battle for their rulers.

All that can save them is acceptance, letting pride fall away and allowing the bonds to be healed. Justice will be true, it will find its path, and he will have his happiness. When the king of hell is satisfied, the worlds will return to the way that they were.

Pray that pride does not swallow the angel, pray that wrath does not consume the devil.

"Wow," I said as I closed the book and handed it back.

Anton slipped it into the diaper bag and nodded in agreement.

"Yes, wow is right. Michael was too proud; I was too angry. And the show of weather was thanks to our little man."

"It seems so unreal; he's a newborn child."

He leaned closer to me, that inane grin on his face.

"A newborn child he might be Sarah, but he is also a deity. Remember that, he has great power already. We just do not understand them yet."
