《Under Investigation》13

"Prove it to me?" Sadie asked. The more they talked the more vulnerable Jett became.
"I have the raw footage from that investigation. It's too sensitive to make into an episode, but I want you to watch it and see what happened," Jett said, standing up to go get his laptop, but Sadie stopped him by grabbing his hand. The electricity that flew through his body was extreme, he was certain it would cause the power to go out.
"I don't want to see it," Sadie whispered. That was actually the last thing she wanted to do. She didn't want to see what had practically destroyed the strong man in front of her. The fact that he had evidence to show her was enough for her.
Even though she didn't understand what exactly happened, Sadie was so happy he came here to pour his heart out and explain. It meant everything.
"You don't?" Jett asked confused. What did she want then. "Do you want me to leave?" If she asked him to leave, he wouldn't give up on her. He just had to build up her delicate trust and confidence.
"Jett, I missed you," Sadie blushed, and Jett couldn't help but smile the first smile in a long time. It was like taking a deep breath after being trapped under water. He had been distraught over her. He felt like he had wrecked God's gift to him, but Sadie was still here. He could overcome anything with Sadie by his side.
"I missed you so much. I'm so sorry." He held open his arms, giving her the choice. Jett couldn't help but sigh in relief when she wrapped her arms around his torso.
Sadie rested her cheek on his chest, rubbing his back soothingly. She knew he was still in so much pain over the situation.

Jett couldn't stop the emotions that filled him at her warm touch. He didn't even try to hold the tears from spilling over. He was so relieved to feel her acceptance. He felt grounded for the first time since the investigation.
Sadie was shocked at his tears, but she began to understand that he really didn't have anybody to comfort him after a traumatic experience. She imagined his mind was still reeling with the events.
She led him to the couch, sitting down so he could lay his head on her stomach. He closed his eyes as Sadie continued to soothingly run her fingers through his hair and gently brush away his tears.
Jett was so comforted. Sadie's touch felt like home. It had been so long since he had actually felt anything but anger. The storm raging in his head calmed enough to allow him to drift off to the most peaceful sleep.
She couldn't believe he fell asleep. It was kind of adorable. She still had to feed the horses one last time, but it could wait. She imagined he hadn't slept much recently, if it was anything like when he was with her before.
Sadie dozed off with him for about an hour, before she had to get up to do night check in the barn and figure out something for dinner. She was hungry and certain her rumbling stomach would wake him up.
Jett woke up disoriented. He yawned and stretched out, feeling well rested and warm all over. Something smelled really good, and he stood up to investigate.
He found Sadie in the kitchen in pajamas. She looked so cute and tiny. He was almost certain his heart was going to flutter away from his body. He was beginning to realize that it only beat for her. For awhile there, he was certain his heart had been ripped out.

"Did you have a good nap?" Sadie asked. Whatever she had been cooking was in the oven and she was cleaning up.
"The best ever," Jett smiled, taking the dishes from her hands and putting them in the sink. He then wrapped her tightly in his arms. "I feel like I can accomplish anything when I am with you."
Sadie blushed as she pressed her cheek to his chest, and Jett stroked her hair.
Dinner was ready a few moments later. Sadie made homemade lasagna and Jett was so excited to finally eat something good. He had been in serious slump the past few weeks, barely moving or accomplishing anything. Alive but not living.
"I was hoping I could stay a few days, and have the weekend we were supposed to have all along, unless you have plans," Jett said, as he took a bite of the cheesy heaven. He was blissed out.
Sadie smiled at him and he couldn't help but give her one in return. She made him so happy.
"I'd love that. I have a few clients tomorrow morning, but that's it."
Jett nodded, "I want to give you money for the clients you had to move around because of me. I don't want your business to suffer."
Sadie was surprised and a little embarrassed by his offer. She was hoping he wouldn't remember the words she had used to get him moving.
"I just said those things to get you up, Jett. You weren't eating or drinking anything. I was really worried," she paused when Jett released a pained sigh. "but the business is doing really well so there's no need for that. I would do it again, for you."
"You're the only one who cared. I don't know what I would do without you."
