"why didn't you tell me before?" haley asked timothée once they were both backstage.
"i didn't know how to bring it up!" he protested. "was that okay? that you found out on tv?"
"it was fun," she told him, smiling. "will you change?" she asked.
"nah, i'm heading home already. you?"
"i'm heading home too, so i'm not gonna change."
"i'll take you to your place first though," timothée said, "just to make sure you get home alright."
"thanks." she grinned, kissing him on the cheek. they exited a back door to avoid the paparazzi out front and climbed into the land cruiser that awaited them.
"we're here," haley said, once they pulled up in front of her apartment. "you don't have to go down, you know..."
"i will." he told her firmly. "could you just go around, circle around, maybe?" timmy asked their driver. "thanks." however, they encountered a problem once the elevator arrived on haley's floor.
"where are my keys?" she asked, digging through her clutch. "finn told me he put them in my bag, what the hell—" after searching both her Extra Clothes Bag and her Actual Bag which was her clutch, haley concluded that her keys were gone. "timmy. my keys are gone."
"you got no extra?"
"i always have my keys." she said, confused. "hang on, let me ask the lady downstairs..." when haley returned, however, she shook her head. "they said finn said he lost his and took their extra one. what the fuck."
"oh my god."
"one last option, just wait. grandpa wilson?" haley knocked on the door across hers.
"wilson? like, mikayla's—"
"— kayla's grandfather, yes."
"who is it?" the old man cracked the door open, then opened it fully when he recognized haley. "haley! c'mere, i haven't seen you in ages," he said, posh as ever.
"hello mr. wilson, i was just wondering if you—"
"— who's that?" he asked, pointing behind her.
"oh, uh, this is timothée chalamet, a friend of mine."
"friend, eh? what again were you here for, sorry?"
"uhm. i was wondering if you knew where kayla keeps the spare key i gave her?"
"she's in los angeles right now darling, i don't think it's anywhere here... i'll try to find it but i don't suppose it's in any of this mess." the old man gestured inside, which was quite the museum of different art pieces, boxes, and more boxes that filled the room.
"right, right, okay. thank you!" haley gave the old man a hug before he shut the door.
"what're you gonna do?"
"let's go to the roof, yeah?" she said. timothée followed her upstairs and when she opened the door, they were there on the top of the building.
"wow," he exhaled. "this is a view."
"it's beautiful, isn't it?" she asked, looking out into the night. below them were red, white, and yellow lights, a result of the usual traffic that flooded new york city. haley had sat down at a reclining chair that lay free for anyone who wanted to sit and timothée noticed that she had lit a cigarette and put it into her mouth, taking a drag.
"i didn't know you smoked," he said, sitting on the chair beside her.
"i know i said before that i didn't but i actually did," she admitted. "not to much to get seriously addicted but it was pretty bad for a nineteen year old. i stopped when i dated my ex... alex, i mean." she coughed out a laugh. "i'd do it a couple times for roles, but finn got mad when i did it at home, not just because he hates the smell but, they do make you really sick when you get old."

"i know."
"i still do it sometimes, though. do you smoke?"
"sometimes, like you. i've done it for a couple roles, but sometimes when i'm not on-camera i do too," he said. she stood up and passed timothée her cigarette, watching as he took an inhale. when he stood up and gave it back, haley put it out on a nearby ashtray, even though it wasn't even burnt through halfway.
"i really don't think that i'm gonna find a key and i don't wanna bust down my door so i'm gonna book a hotel." haley said finally, turning to see what his reaction would be.
"sorry, come again?" he asked, a smile playing on his features. "got distracted there."
"we're on the roof, there's nothing to be distracted by.".
"you're standing right in front of me, aren't you?" he asked. the two of them were very close, and timmy could see the air that came out from her mouth every time she took a breath.
"you're very endearing." haley told him softly. their noses were touching and though it was dark, she could still see the glimmer in his eyes.
"yeah?" his face lit up with a small smile before he leaned towards her and gently pulled her in for a kiss. it was soft and slow, like a fire spreading outwards from a core, and the only thing that ran through haley's head was he's a good kisser, before short circuiting. he tasted like smoke, and she was sure that she did too, but also he somehow tasted like a mild peppermint.
"that was nice," she said breathlessly, once they had pulled away. she was about to repeat what she said about booking a hotel earlier, when he had begun to place small kisses on her neck and everything from her mind was erased again.
"timothée." haley said, trying not to let her words come out strangled.
"yes?"
"did you hear me earlier?"
"no." it didn't sound like he was sorry for it, though.
"i'm gonna book a hotel for the night." she repeated putting his arm round her waist and swaying. he closed his eyes, avoiding looking at her or she'd distract him again. she's gonna book a hotel for the night. he thought. alright. say oka—
"no." he said.
"what?"
"you're gonna have to pay for that."
"i have money." she pointed out.
"just stay over at mine?" timothée asked. "please." haley almost protested, but he honest to god pouted and she couldn't say no to that.
"timmy..."
"you don't have to pay anything, you're not imposing since i offered it first, you're just gonna have to deal with a little mess so if that's fine with you then come on over and let's go."
haley sighed. "fine." she conceded.
"thank you." he smiled again, one that reached the corners of his eyes. "here we are," he said, fifteen minutes later, as they pulled up to his apartment. "i still can't believe you lost your keys." he remarked, as they stood in the elevator. "it's very unlike you."
"i swear, my brother's got something to do with this. he was acting all shady and weird before i left for fallon." she frowned. "let me call him."
"finn?" timothée heard her say as he led her inside his apartment. "yeah, it went... you'll see it on tv when it airs later. it's interesting, to say the least. how'd you know timmy was there? he told you? oh my god," she said, turning towards him.

"i was planning to surprise you!"
"i'm at timmy's. why? you're asking me why? i lost my keys. how unfortunate? i know you're up to something you sniveling little shit. you said you put them in my bag, and they're not there! yes i'm gonna stay over, i've got nowhere to stay! okay, bye. i said bye, finn." she huffed.
"you know your way around, yeah?" timmy asked. "sorry again, for the mess. uh, don't tell my mom i took you here, she'd be super disappointed if she found out i took a girl home to this wreck."
"i don't mind it," haley said kindly, looking around. "it's good i brought extra clothes, huh." she looked down at the bag of clothes she had with her then made a connection. "i think finn did this on purpose."
"did what on purpose?" timothée asked, wrapping his arms around her waist from behind her and resting his chin on her shoulder.
"not put my keys in my bag."
"why would he do that?"
"so i could stay here with you, probably."
"hmm. i guess i have to thank him, then." he replied, softly pressing a kiss to the base of her neck once more. "do you wanna get changed? you must be tired."
"alright," she said, allowing herself to be led to the guest room.
"i got a clean towel here," he said, handing it to her from the closet. "you gonna be okay?"
"yes," haley replied smiling at him. he left her to freshen up, and when she had changed into a pair of shorts and a sweater she picked from her bag at random, she realized that it wasn't just any sweater. it was the one that she kept, from all those months ago.
as she opened the door to head outside, she saw timmy from the sofa look up, his smile widening when he saw her. "hey, you look great," he said, kissing her again on her cheek.
"here," haley said, handing him the folded sweater. "i was right, finn probably set us up to this since he put this in my bag. i forgot about it," she said. "sorry."
"that's where it went," he grinned. "it's alright, keep it."
"please just take it," she said, pressing it into his chest.
"you've been wearing it while i was gone." timmy said, noting how worn it looked, the small stains that would've been invisible to someone who never knew what it's clean version looked like, and a small tear on the hem. "keep it." haley sighed, but didn't argue anymore. she kinda did want to keep it, and pulled it on right then.
"i forgot how good it looks on you." he said, looking down at how it fit her perfectly and taking her hand. "i know we said we'll take things slow, so if you're tired and want to sleep already i'll leave you alone and let you stay in that room there if you want?" he offered.
to his surprise, haley cupped her hand on his cheek and crushed her lips against his. the lips are indeed the softest part of the body, timothée thought. he returned the gesture and his mind went blank as they entered his room, holding each other. "stay with me please," she said quietly, in between kisses.
"of course," he whispered, "yes please." the two of them stayed on his bed for the night and it felt comfortable to feel her body heat right beside his. the two of them slept peacefully throughout the night until they woke up at five in the morning to a phone ringing. "the hell is that?" timmy grumbled, pulling haley by the waist so she'd be closer to his chest.
"i'm so sorry, i think it's mine." haley said, her words still groggy from sleep. "it's rora." her friend was in europe, doing press for their movie with yara. "hello?" she asked sleepily.
"are you standing up or sitting down?" rora asked. she was on speaker mode.
"oh my god." timothée groaned quietly from beside her.
"did you really wake me up in the morning to play this stupid game?"
"i'm sorry."
"to your disappointment, i'm neither standing up nor sitting down, i am lying in bed rora, because people are usually asleep at five in the morning." at this, haley switched to a video call.
"i can't see you."
"can you turn on the light, please?" haley whispered to timmy. he let out a muffled sound but reluctantly hit the switch on the lamp.
"there, now i can see you! wait, were you talking to someone?"
"uh, yeah, i was talking to my, uh..." haley looked over at timmy, who rolled over and gave a sleepy smile. she made sure to keep the camera pointed off of him, though. "my boyfriend?"
"pardon?"
"yeah. we just defined the relationship now, i think."
"how come i didn't know this?"
"it was a— how do i say this— a recent development."
"you're not telling me things. this is an important development and i'm supposed to be your best friend. i'm going to call you properly later, yeah?"
"sure, yeah, no problem."
"how was fallon last night?"
"it was good... timmy came over."
"really?"
"yeah, he surprised me and did the rest of the show."
"i'll call him next, see what he's up to at five in the morning. alright, goodnight!"
"you're really trying to disrupt innocent people's sleep, huh."
"if he doesn't answer then good for him!"
"alright, bye.
"bye!"
"i was sleeping really well till she called." frowned timothée. "i'm not gonna answer when she calls me."
"why not? you're already awake, might as well answer."
"because i wanna sleep in this very comfy bed with my girlfriend." he grinned playfully, snuggling closer to haley under the blanket they had on.
"yeah?"
"it's got a nice ring to it. also, i've got something i wanted to show you later."
"and what would that be?"
"we'll have to go to mom's to get it, but i hope you like it."
"i'm sure i will." haley let herself fall into his arms with ease, content with his touch. which is how later that morning, the two of them walked hand in hand to timmy's parents' apartment. "are you sure she won't hate me?"
"why on earth would my mom hate you?" he asked, making a face.
"i dunno. didn't you tell her about us before? like what i did?"
"oh yeah, of course i did." timothée answered. "but she doesn't hate you. she was actually," at this, timothée gave a little chuckle, "she was actually telling me how it'd work out eventually, that you might've been... i don't know, going through something, maybe?" haley nodded slowly. "so i'm definitely in for an 'i told you so' when we get there."
"i'm sorry. i regret it everyday," she whispered, still regretting the amount of pain she inflicted upon him.
"it's alright. so long as you're here now, i'm fine." he assured her. "hey, mom!" he exclaimed, once the door to his childhood apartment opened.
"timmy, hi! didn't expect you to show up just yet, you had a busy night, didn't you?" nicole flender said, hugging her son. "and you must be haley."
"hi ms. flender," haley said awkwardly, giving nicole a hug.
"i'm not ms. flender to anyone, please call me momma nicole or nicole, whichever you prefer. come in!" the three of them made small talk, like How Was Fallon Last Night? and What Was Your Breakfast, Are You Sure You're Not Hungry? until timothée coughed.
"sorry mom, but do you have the, uh, thing?"
"oh right, of course, just over here..." nicole said.
"stay here, and close your eyes." timmy told her. "relax, it's nothing scary." when haley opened her eyes, she felt something hitting against her shin. when she finally opened her eyes, she saw a black dog at her feet.
"oh my god." she looked up at him, then at nicole, before leaning down to play with the dog.
"you all should go to grandma's now, just to say hi."
"yeah, 'kay mom. bye, love you." it warmed haley's heart to see timmy interact with his mom, and it was still in her mind as the two of them went down to a lower floor where she met grandma enid. it gave haley a chance to practice her french, since it seemed like the language that timothée and his grandma were comfortable speaking. "bye, grandma!" he gave her a kiss on the cheek and haley waved as they walked back to the elevator.
"you guys are all so sweet," haley told him, once they were outside of the apartment building.
"yeah?" timothée grinned and pulled her in for a cheek kiss. "you okay?" he asked the dog in front of them.
"she's adorable," remarked haley, looking at the dog in front of them. "what was her name again? you never told me."
"you ready for this?" when haley nodded, he leaned in. "sienna." the look on her face was priceless.
"as in..." haley's first thought immediately went to the small puppy they saw at the shelter almost two years before.
"yes."
"you're kidding."
"nope."
"i can't believe this."
"you better, because that's her. sienna?" the black labrador bounded over towards them. "this is haley, you were never able to meet her because of... reasons, but now, she's gonna be here with us, got it?" haley kept shaking her head, still in shock.
"i went back to the shelter before i left for LA, i was hoping she'd still be there." she explained as they walked back to his place.
"you should've asked me! i would've gave her back to you," he told her. "i got her only because... because i was planning to give her to you for our fifth month, you know." haley remembered that day all too well, and would rather not bring it up again lest she'd cry, so she swallowed and nodded, leaning into timothée as they entered his apartment again.
