the oscars (pt. 2)
the next category to be presented was best actor in a leading role. kristen stewart was onstage, about to announce the nominees and preset the winner with the award because she had won best actress the year prior.
she read out the nominees: timothée, tom hanks, brad pitt, michael keaton and mark rylance.
haley looked up at the large screen as timmy's face was shown to the audience. they still haven't talked since her panic attack two hours prior, and it seemed like he smiled directly at her when he looked at the camera.
"his twitter fans are gonna go ballistic at that." finn whispered to haley, who knew that he was right.
"and the oscar goes to..." haley took a deep breath, ready to hoot and holler for timmy when kristen said "michael keaton!"
she bit back a curse as she watched him get up and head onstage. of course he deserved it, she was just a bit biased.
"it's okay, you'll win the next one." finn told her, rocking back and forth in his seat.
"if timothée lost to michael keaton, then i'm gonna lose to laura linney." haley snapped, about to bury her head in her hands.
"your makeup." finn warned, pulling her back before she could mess it up. haley shot her brother a glare, because honestly? she couldn't care less about her damn makeup.
the commercial break after that flew by extremely quickly, and before haley knew it, the best actress award was about to be presented.
'Good luck!! I know you'll win ' timmy sent. "i can't do this. i'm gonna head to the bathroom." haley said, about to sneak out so she'd miss the awarding on purpose.
"not a chance in hell." finn grabbed her wrist and kept her in her seat with an iron grip.
"the nominees are: haley leneghan, the story of a pretty woman [...]" andrew garfield read out loud. he was presenting since he won for tick, tick... BOOM! the year prior. haley's fellow nominees were anne hathaway, glenn close, octavia spencer, and cate blanchett. two of them, cate and octavia, were people that she'd worked with before.
haley heard andrew begin to announce the winner, and her mind went blank. "and the oscar for best actress in a leading role goes to... cate blanchett!" she heard him say. so haley began to clap for her costar, who, when she turned around to look at her, was standing up along with the rest of the people in her row.
"congratulations!" cate exclaimed, heading to haley, arms open for a hug.
"haley, get up!" shouted finn, over the deafening noise.
"what?" she asked, confused. it was very chaotic, to say the least. her brother pointed, and haley's mouth dropped when she saw her face on the large screen in the very front of the theater.
"haley leneghan, congratulations!" andrew shouted from the podium, clapping.
"you're joking!" her hand clapped to her mouth and her eyes began to water as she went down her row to hug greta, joe, bradley, finn, and her other costars, before heading up to the stage.
don't trip, don't trip, don't trip, she thought, over and over. she did stumble on the steps, but didn't fall.
"oh my god, hi, i love you so much," haley said to andrew garfield once she was on stage, still shocked about everything.

"congratulations!" he was very smiley and overall just very lovely. "you deserve this, you know? you were fantastic, you did a splendid job." he said as they hugged. he handed her the oscar, and haley held it with both hands, scared that she'd drop it. "you can do this." andrew said encouragingly as she made her way to the mic.
"oh my," she said, looking from the podium out at the thousands of people that were staring at her. "this is so, so, so, insane, i— wow, i really can't believe this, i can't even think right now." haley took a couple breaths in silence to gather her thoughts. "sorry if this is all over the place, but... thank you, just thank you so much to the academy for this award. sorry for my tweet from a couple weeks earlier, but i'm glad to see it worked out and you don't hate me, so yeah." that got a couple of cheers from the audience, which boosted her confidence a bit.
"i'd just like to thank the family of paris chase-jackson first of all, james, rora, theo, and everyone else, for entrusting me with this role, i don't think i could've done it without all your encouragement and endless support. of course i have to thank greta, you're amazing, i love you so much, thank you for everything. also thank you to nicole holofcener and aurora aksnes, two amazing women that i collaborated with for the original screenplay and original song. um, also the cast! joe, bradley, john, meryl, cate, nick, kristen, mckenna, margaret, lily, hoyeon, and everyone else, you guys are the best. and to the crew and editors behind this amazing movie, this wouldn't be possible without your hard work, so thanks so much for that. thanks to my brother, finn, for being my older, wiser, more sensible brother even though he's four years younger than me, and also to my parents, who aren't here at the moment, but i'd like them to know that i wouldn't be here if it wasn't for them. also, thanks to all my friends for helping me and telling me to take on this movie which i didn't know would be very special to me yet at the time.
"oh no, the timer's about to end! wait, wait, this is important, i swear! i just wanna say that this movie is very dear to my heart, and it has a message that i hope will raise awareness about the abuse and assault people go through. i wanna dedicate this," haley raised her oscar, "to all the victims of any kind of abuse, especially sexual assault, that are out there. rafa, i met you in london last year and your story was just so touching, and to all the other men, women, people who identify as neither, i just want to say that you're all so brave and courageous for speaking up about your experiences. i kept you all in my heart during the production of this movie, and i want to say that this is for you."
haley smiled as she received a smattering of applause, many standing ovations, even, as she exited the stage. holding the oscar tightly, she made her way back to her seat and to finn. "what the hell just happened."
"you won two oscars in the same night." he said slowly, evidently still processing the fact as well. he took her best actress award and held it in one hand, with her best original screenplay oscar in the other as if he couldn't believe that there were two. "the family has five, now. and!" he added as he did a quick google search, "you're like, the youngest woman to win two oscars in one night! and the sixth woman, too."

"this one is named the grouch, and this one is named isaac. 'cause they're both oscars, get it?"
"you're impossible."
to end the ceremony, the story of a pretty woman ended up winning best picture, and haley couldn't be happier. the vanity fair afterparty was fun, but all she really wanted to do was to get home and rest, tired from the eventful night.
do you wanna come over tomorrow? she shot a text to timothée, still bummed about how she wasn't able to see him the whole time. they kept talking to different people throughout the parties and she was never able to find him or have a proper conversation with him alone.
'What time d you want me to?'
'anytime is fine, maybe in the morning?' haley had a feeling that she'd oversleep.
'See you then!'
she, elias and finn arrived home in the early hours of the morning just past midnight, very drunk and very happy.

timothée approached the steps of the leneghan house early the next morning. it was around nine, and he had gotten up earlier than he should've to head over despite the throbbing hangover from the night before. so, with a bouquet of roses in one hand, he rang the doorbell with the other.
"oh. hello." it was charlie who got the door. it looked like the therapist had just woken up, given his bedhead and pajamas.
"hey, man." timmy said. "is haley asleep, or am i interrupting something...?"
"no no, she's in the kitchen. just be quiet because her brother's sleepin' and i know that he's an absolute horror if he doesn't get his eight hours."
"gotcha." charlie walked in, mussing up his hair even more, as timmy looked around the house. the mantel that held the three oscars of haley's parents combined now had four new additions: two of her own oscars, and two grammys. he smiled.
"charlie, is that— timmy!"
"good morning to the two-time oscar winner, haley leneghan! how does it sound?" timothée asked, kissing her cheek and handing her the flowers.
"these are so pretty," she said, admiring the flowers and kissing him again.
"that's a pity, they were for charlie." he joked, putting an arm around her waist.
"he's here 'cuz he got into a fight with bella last night and felt lazy to drive home." haley explained, regarding her therapist friend and his disheveled appearance.
"speaking of, i'm so sorry i wasn't able to see you in person yesterday," he mumbled.
"i'm sorry i forgot to thank you in my speech." she said, worried that timmy might've been offended.
"i didn't do anything." timothée said honestly. they weren't talking the whole time she shot the film, aside from when they had that awkward encounter at the met gala and when he spoke to her through zendaya's video call on her birthday. "it was all you."
"you gave me a second chance, i think that's more than enough reason to give you a thank you."
"it needed no effort at all," he assured her. "didn't impact the making of the film a bit, though i do have to say that your face was priceless when you won, you know. it was like—" he imitated her face right then. "—you were clapping at first, then we all saw finn hit you, and it was like this big look of shock."
"i thought i heard andrew say it went to cate!" she exclaimed defensively.
"you should really give yourself more credit where it's due," he said, kissing her temple. "your performance was way better than all of the others'."
"they're all acting veterans, so i couldn't help but expect not to win. besides, i was happy to get a nomination at all."
"true... by the way, where were you last night? i couldn't find you at all during the afterparty,"
"i couldn't find you anywhere either! the place was huge and i went around so many times. if you must know, i spoke to andrew garfield for quite a while."
"i've always wanted to meet the guy." he said excitedly.
"he's very sweet, really. he was extremely nice when i spoke to him, also he was super kind when presenting me with my... thing." haley said, jabbing her thumb backwards to point at the shelf that held her statuettes.
timothée let out a laugh. "you can't even say that you own one. hell, not one, but two! what did you talk about?" he asked, the two of them sitting down on the couch where they had kissed for the first time in years just about a month before.
"a screenplay i've been writing, and how i want him to direct it."
"you're writing a screenplay?" he asked, aghast. "how come you've never told me any of this?"
"i haven't? i swear i did!" she said, even though he insisted he knew nothing. "i can't believe i forgot to tell you. alright, fine. so i've been working on a screenplay— just this little original thing that i wrote myself— and i don't really expect anything out of it but i was wanting him to direct it."
"why him?"
"do you wanna?" she asked, surprised at his tone. "i could tell him that i changed my mind," haley offered.
"no no no, i was just curious what it was about." he explained.
"oh, well. i want it to be like this indie thing by a24 and—"
"ew, pda!" wailed finn from the stairs. he and elias were staring at haley and timmy with absolute distaste.
"ew, heteros!" elias said drily.
"she's not hetero... are you?" asked finn.
"i am tiptoeing on the line in between." she said.
"what's my two-time oscar winner sister gonna do now?" asked finn, forcing the two apart and squeezing between them on the couch. timmy sighed.
"an absolutely remarkable thing press." replied haley, elbowing her brother to get up. "we're flying to new york tomorrow, i think, then we'll go on fallon."
"i have made the executive decision to Go With You, since y'all need a chaperone." finn concluded, before standing up.
we're not done yet! lots of press
tingz to be released soon
