You decide to join the order of the phoenix, working, just in case Severus is thrown out of the order you could feed information to keep his place as a spy and is there when Harry arrives at Grimmauld Place and stay while Severus goes off and says he would meet you at Hogwarts.
You get to know all the members of the order of the phoenix and they all seem to like and trust you, as Dumbledore and Harry vouched for you. You would feedback information to Severus, making it seem to the death eaters that he was still apart of the order.
