"Have you got your bag?" I called down the hall. Hunter didn't reply so I called again, "Hunter, we're gonna be late!"
"I'm coming, I'm coming." He laughed, "You know for someone who hasn't spoken to their dad in ages, you sure are stressed."
I stared at him.
"Sorry, that was rude." He apologized.
"Mhm, he's still my dad and I'm having dinner with him and Jade to sort everything out before the wedding. So that's why I'm stressing."
Hunter walked over to me and held my hands in his, "You're going to try fix things?"
"I've told you this already, that's why we have to leave soon." I took my hands out of his.
"Okay, let's go fetch Sky and then get going."
"Wait," I called out when Hunter was at the door, "why have you got such a small bag? Aren't you going home after the wedding?"
Hunter was carrying a small bag, clearly only meant for the weekend, not for the holidays.
"Oh about that... I asked your mom if you could come to stay with me for a week."
"And you just 'forgot' to ask me?"
"I was just going to bring you back here, fetch my bag and then take you to my house. But now that you know, we can just go straight to my house after the wedding."
"But you haven't asked me." I said stubbornly.
"Okay, Emilia Anderson, will you please come to my house to meet my family for a week?"
"No."
He looked surprised as if he thought I was going to say yes.
"What? But your mom already said yes."
"My mom's not the one going. Just wait a second, Sky's calling. Yeah?"

"Umm... Em, Ty's taking me to meet his family so I...Umm... Won't be able to come to your dad's wedding."
I didn't answer, "Em?"
"Whatever Sky."
"Em, come on. We've been together for just over two months now."
I sighed, "I'm glad for you, Sky, I really am. I'm just sorting something out with Hunter."
I glared at him and he held his hands up defensively, "Hunter, just go take the bags to the car, we can discuss this later." He did as he was told and left, with my bag and his small bag.
"What has he done now?" Sky's voice came through the phone.
"He's taking me to his house for a week after the wedding but he asked my mom and not me."
"Is he your boyfriend!?"
"What? No."
"Em, he probably just wanted to surprise you. I suppose he asked your mom so that you wouldn't have to worry about it once he asked you. Are you going?"
"I said no."
"Em, I can tell that Hunter clearly likes you and I think you do too," I blushed, "so just go."
I sighed, "You're right, Sky."
"I know I am, now go enjoy yourself! And don't do anything I wouldn't do."
I laughed, "Thank you Sky. Enjoy your time with Ty."
"You ready to go, sweetheart?" He looked downhearted.
"Go get your other bag you asshole."
Hunter's face lit up, "You mean you're coming to spend our one and only week of holiday with my family?"
"Yes, Hunter." I laughed at his childish delight.
"Okay, I'm getting my bag. I'll lock up, you can go down to the car so long."
-
"Don't worry Hunt, I'll be fine. It's just dinner."

"Are you sure, sweetheart? Just call me if you want to leave."
"Thanks Hunt, I'll see you soon." I stepped out of the car and walked towards the restaurant I was meeting my dad and Jade at.
"Em! Thank you for coming." Dad was sitting alone at a table.
"Where's Jade?"
"She couldn't come. Bad luck to see the bride before the wedding." He laughed clearly uncomfortable.
Dad and I had a comfortable conversation while we ate. He asked me about Hunter and I asked him about Jade. She was only 2 months pregnant so nobody would be able to see the bump yet.
"Em, I just wanted to say I'm sorry. I should've told you when it was just you and I. And I should have thought of you too. Em, I'm really sorry."
"It's okay, dad. It's just that I miss Jaimie still. Jade's a similar age to her and I think of her often."
"Me too, Em." He was quiet for a long time before he spoke again, "So you'll give Jade a chance? I understand if you need time and you don't have to call her mom - "
"Obviously. She's like my sister rather." I laughed trying to comfort dad but his face turned serious.
"Do you still wonder if she's alive? Do you go through the file or sometimes just go outside and hope that you'll bump into her?"
"Everyday, Dad. Everyday."
"This is going to sound awful, Em and I don't mean it like that. I just think we should stop. Stop looking, just burn the case file. Live a new life, start over. It's been nearly 10 years. I mean, I've got Jade and a baby on the way - "
"Let me just stop you there before you ruin what we just fixed any further. You have a new family, dad. Not mom and I. Just because you've given up on Jaimie doesn't mean I have. So you can go live your perfect life with your new and improved family and just forget about us." I got up and turned to leave, "See you at your wedding, Dad."
Once I was outside, I broke down. I was furious so I picked up my phone but before I could call Hunter he appeared in front of me. He wrapped me in a warm hug.
"Come on, sweetheart. Let's go before he comes out."
"How did you know?" I looked up at him confused.
"I got take out and waited for you in the car. I thought it wouldn't last too long but it was definitely longer than I thought."
I laughed, my tears were gone but I was still furious.
"You know what he said, Hunt? He told me to forget my sister. To move on. Burn the case file, those were his exact words."
Although Hunter didn't know what happened to my sister, the mention of burning a case file clearly shocked him.
"I'm sorry, Em. You wanna go back to the hotel?"
"Take me to the gym. My cousin has a boxing club there." I punched in the address.
Hunter raised an eyebrow, "Someone's gonna get shit whipped."

"Are you sure you are ready for me little warrior?" He said as the corner of his lip curled.I look back up with pleading eyes. I nodded, and he undid the last button.
