《Slam Poetry》The Real World

I'm tired.

I'm tired of people being jerks.

Let's see.

Here's an analysis, my thoughts.

Well, not only mine.

The thoughts of people like me.

The ones without a voice.

Welcome to high school.

Where students are assaulted.

Bullied.

Terrorized.

Everyday.

Where teachers dont make mistakes.

The students do.

Let's talk about dress code.

Dress code enforces the idea of "boys will be boys."

Female students are sent home, because their shorts are too short.

Their bra straps are showing.

Oh God!

No one should ever know that i, a teenage female wear a bra!

The horror!

I have figured out that girls mature faster than boys.

Boys cannot handle shoulders.

Or armpits, apparently.

Not trying to just diss you boys.

I know some girls who cannot control themselves either.

Girls are taught,

Without a word ever being said,

That we, that they are sexualized for their growing bodies.

They have to mature faster, or the will be caught.

Trapped.

Dress code teaches male peers,

And sometimes even teachers.

That a girls education is less important.

That they are a distraction.

But whatever.

Next topic.

Testing.

Passing a class is the most important thing.

If you fail, you wont graduate on time.

They give us a state of mind, and then they get mad when those of us, you know who you are, cheat.

"I guess your grades are more important to you than your morals are."

Well, yeah.

After all, that's what you have been teaching us since middle school.

Grades are more important than our physical, or mental health.

A student with a broken leg doesn't have to participate in PE.

But God forbid i have anxiety.

If you ask your teacher what the most important thing is, they will say your grades.

If you ask your coach, it's your skill in the game.

The A+ student, who is fantastic at sports.

Could suffer.

They could be suicidal, and no one would notice.

I've been told many times in my life, to live life to its fullest.

But how do I do that stuck in here?

Being young should mean,

Staying out late.

Kissing cute people.

Adventures.

Netflix until four a.m.

Instead it means sitting in a desk for years.

Facing people you despise every single day.

Feeling worthless.

Being used to feeling tired.

So used to it, that it's just a part of you.

Feeling pressured.

Trapped.

There's no way out.

Feeling alone.

School is important.

I don't doubt that.

We learn reading, writing, science, math, and history.

But then they teach it to us again.

And again.

Except, for some reason they make it harder as we go on.

Instead, we should have classes on useful things.

Classes on racism, drugs, sexuality, gender, sex education.

To teach us the ins and outs.

The good versus the bad.

Instead, it's PE.

It's German.

It's Latin.

Its Spanish.

It's French.

When am I ever going to need this!

I can barely afford a house in America.

How am I gonna go to spain!

High school is not easy.

High school is not a dull ache.

It is not simple.

Students self harm!

Plenty of people i know have meltdowns.

We cry ourselves to sleep.

I've have talked so many people out of killing themselves.

I've thought about it.

So dont you dare tell me out school system isn't messed up.

Because it is.

It's so screwed up, you can't even see through the debris that's left behind

Eleven thousand people agree with me.

Can't you see?

HEY GUYS.

IT'S BEEN A WHILE.

HERE'S MY NEWEST ONE.

COMMENT YOUR OPINION PLEASE.

I WANNA DO IT AT MY SCHOOL TALENT SHOW.

LOVE Y'ALL
