《Marigold; Adventures of Scarlet Lady and Chat》Chapter 19

"Hey, Mic...what? Transform? Why-HOLY HONEYBEES!!! Micah, look up!" I shouted into my phone. Outside my window, I could see a giant flaming meteorite coming towards the city!
I climbed up to my balcony, shouting, "Pollen, buzz on!"
With my newfound powers, I jumped from building to building. The meteorite looked like it would come down right on top of the Louvre. How was I gonna stop it?
I immediately called Chat Noir, still running. He answered right away.
"You see it?" I asked.
"Ya. Where's it heading?"
"The Louvre."
"Meet you there."
When I arrived, I looked up at the sky...It was coming so fast...I was gonna have to jump...maybe my power could immobilize it...somehow...okay, even I knew that would never work...still, I had to try...at least until Chat got here, then he could cataclysm it. I was about to jump when suddenly a blur of orange swirled by. Then right before my eyes, a fox themed superhero was flying high in the sky, pushing the meteorite away from Paris.
With a final push, she launched it back into the air and landed. The surrounding crowd cheered loudly, me included.
Suddenly, both Chat Noir and Scarlet Lady were by my side.
"Wow! Did you see that? It was amazing!" I said, astonished.
Chat Noir suddenly got a little...fussy? Was that the right word? "Please, I could have done that twice as well...and twice as fast."
"Ya. Me too," Scar added.
I laughed, "Wow...this really is a special day. Both Bug and Cat agreeing."
Chat didn't even smile a little...he was too busy watching the superhero...the hero who was coming right for us.
I smiled brightly, "Hi! That was amazing!"
"Thanks. Glad you dropped in. I need a hand," The superhero explained, running off. I was right on her tail, Chat, and Scar behind.
We were all crouched behind some chimneys, and the superhero pointed.
I gasped, "T-T-That's HawkMoth...but he never shows himself in public...something big must be going on."
"We can take him down, but it's going to take all four of us using our unique special abilities...Very nice to meet you three by the way. I'm Volpina and a big fan!" Volpina said.
I smiled, "Well after the stunt you pulled, I'm pretty sure we can say we're fans of you..." I turned to Chat Noir and Scar. Scar, as usual, was glaring...but to my surprise, Chat Noir didn't look too happy either.
"That meteorite and HawkMoth on the same day...seem kinda weird right?" Chat Noir noted.
Volpina shrugged, "Why would you say that?"
"I was talking to Marigold."
I was appalled at how rude Chat Noir was being, "Chat!"
"It's fine, don't worry about it...I mean, Chat Noir does kinda have a history of not trusting the newbies, right Marigold? You know first hand after all... I shouldn't have expected anything less," Volpina shrugged.
That made me upset...Why was Chat Noir acting like this?
"I'm gonna go in for a closer look, be right back," Volpina explained, and sneaked away.
"I don't trust her," Chat said.
"I don't like her," Scar added.
I wasn't amused by their agreeing anymore "Seriously, what is up with you two? I mean, I expect this from Scar-"
"Rude," She cut in.
"But from you, Kitty?"
"I don't know...something about her feels off."
"You're the one who's off. What is it with you and new superheroes? My first day, you practically told me to 'get lost'. That really hurt, Chat. It still hurts. And you doing it to Volpina? I thought you were better than that."
"I'm sorry if my gut tells me she's bad news...and it's unfair for you to bring up our first meeting. I was having a bad day, and you literally fell on me. Besides, I've regretted what I said to you every day."
"Me being unfair? You're the one being unfair," I argued.
"Come on, don't you think it's a little unusual that HawkMoth happens to show up on the same day Volpina shows up?" Chat asked.
"You're the one I'm finding unusual...you're acting just like Scar!"
"Again, RUDE," Scar interrupted.
We ignored her, "Listen, as soon as you get your act together, you can help. Until then, I'm working with Volpina."
"Fine."
"Fine."
"Great."
"Awesome," Then I jumped over to where Volpina waited. I heard Chat mutter to Scar, "Ugh, she's so...infuriating sometimes!" I just rolled my eyes.
...
Despite my argument with Marigold, I was still worried about her and watched closely as she hurried to Volpina's side...I didn't like this. It should be me and Marigold taking down HawkMoth...or I should at least be in the action. But my pride was too big to relent and join them.
So instead, I stood by, ready to help if they needed me...but suddenly, they took off...in the exact opposite direction as HawkMoth...what was going on?
Scar's voice broke through my thoughts, "They're running away! Ugh, useless. I knew that Marigold was a bad idea...come on Chat Noir. Let's go get HawkMoth," She ordered.
But I paused, and looked after Marigold and Volpina, "Sorry Scar...you're on your own."
Then I ran after Marigold.
I wasn't running for a long time when I suddenly caught up with them. They were standing, looking over Paris.
"Marigold...are...is everything okay?" I asked.
She slowly turned towards me. She didn't look happy, "Oh look! It's the great and powerful Chat Noir. Has he decided to grace us with his presence after all? Oh, luck of the ladybug be praised!" Marigold exclaimed, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
I was taken aback...I knew she was mad but... "I...I'm sorry Marigold. I was a jerk to you...I shouldn't have argued with you back there."
"No, you really shouldn't have Chat Noir...because it's given me the perfect opportunity to do this-" Volpina said.
I was suddenly surrounded by weapons. Swords, missiles, bombs, guns, you name it. All aimed directly at me.
I looked up in alarm. Volpina was smiling...Marigold looked on at me in fear. Volpina snapped her fingers, and Marigold was suddenly tied up, "Chat Noir!"
"Marigold!"
"Oh...poor babies...you both fell so easily into my trap. Hand over your miraculous, Chat Noir," Volpina ordered.
My eyes widened, "You're no superhero...you've been akumatized by Hawkmoth!"
"Yes, now hand over the ring."
"Never!"
"Fine," Volpina stood Marigold up and hung her over the roof. Her hand hovered over Marigold's comb, "Give it up now, or I take out the comb and drop her."
"No! It'll kill her!"
"Do I look like I care?"
"Chat Noir, help me...please," Marigold sobbed.
I suddenly frowned... "Marigold...should I give her my miraculous?"
"Anything! Just save me! Please...I don't want to die..." Marigold sobbed.
I suddenly pulled back my hand from where I was about to take off my ring, "Who is that? Because it's not Marigold."
Volpina growled, then dropped Marigold. Against my will, I shouted...but the sickening thud never came.

Volpina smiled, "I'm holding her with magic...you have one more chance-" Suddenly, a curious pigeon flew towards Volpina, landing on her head. Instantly, Volpina turned to orange smoke...I looked around, confused. Then it hit me, "Illusions! That's her power..." I touched the weapons around me, and they instantly disappeared.
I immediately took out my cat phone and called Marigold, "What is it Chat Noir," She sighed, still upset.
"Is Volpina with you?"
"No...she went to go get you and Scar while I trailed HawkMoth, but I lost him...where are you?"
"Near the Eiffel Tower...Marigold, you need to hurry over...HawkMoth, he was never there, to begin with."
"What...what are you saying?"
"Volpina isn't a superhero, she's been akumatized by HawkMoth!"
"No...oh! I'm such an idiot! I never should have trusted her...I'm so sorry."
"It's okay, Marigold...we're both at fault. We should've stayed and worked things out like true teammates. So I'm sorry too...Now here's the real question...if Volpina's not with you, and she's not with me...where is she?"
Then, it hit us, "Scar!"
...
"UGH. Where is that stupid HawkMoth! I need to hurry up and capture him...I'm gonna be late for my mani-pedi...This is all stupid Chat Noir's fault! If he hadn't left me to-"
"One blind bug...One self-centered bug...see how she fears...see how she fears," Came a voice, singing to the tune of 'three blind mice'.
"Who's there?" Scarlet Lady asked.
Suddenly, Volpina swung down in front of Scarlet Lady, "Boo."
Scar screamed, falling backward.
"Hello, Scarlet Lady," Volpina said.
"You!"
"Yes. Me...Oh, don't worry. I don't want to be your friend...but at least you can't say you don't know me anymore, right?" Volpina said, smiling evilly.
A beat past...two beats...three beats...then, "Umm...is that supposed to mean something?" Scar asked.
Volpina's face crumbled, "You don't remember? Seriously? You literally just embarrassed me in front of my crush!"
Scar looked on at Volpina, still confused.
"Oh, for crying out loud-It's me! Lila!"
"...who?"
"Ugh, whatever!" Volpina snapped her fingers, and Scarlet Lady was suddenly surrounded by floating swords, "Take one more step, and you're dead. Now give me your miraculous."
"WAIT!!!" Scar suddenly shouted, then pulled out her yoyo. She opened it, and turned on the video mode, then, "I will never give you my miraculous! For I am Scarlet Lady! FEAR ME!!!"
"Seriously?" Volpina sighed, and Scar was surrounded more closely, "Hand it over..."
"NO! Don't attack...I'm too beautiful to die!"
"That is highly debatable!" Came a voice. Chat Noir and Marigold flipped onto the roof, perfectly synchronized.
"Gotcha fox!" Marigold said, whipping her top through the floating swords. They disappeared.
...
I sat sipping my tea when suddenly, a large eruption shook the ground. I stood quickly rushing into the main room where Fu sat.
"Did you feel that?" I asked, worried.
"Feel what?"
"Call Micah over, quickly...I don't know what...I don't know when...but something bad is about to happen. Very very very bad," I ordered.
I hurried to the door, throwing on my purple trench coat and hat then ran. I first went to the Dupain-Cheng bakery.
I slowed and tried to look calm as I walked in.
Mr. Dupain was there, "Good afternoon!"
I smiled, "Hello...is Marinette in?"
Mr. Dupain shook his head, "No...I believe she's with her cousin. Are you a parent of one of Marinette's friends?"
"No," and I walked out but was soon running.
I pulled out my phone and looked for clues on the news. Nothing useful...no one seemed to know there was an Akuma abroad.
"Ugh, this is taking too long...Arcaa, aperire buxum," I whispered. The invisible kwami flew behind me. Where my spine met my skull, I had a small pearl implanted there. It was a dark purple color and was originally the center jewel of a crown. The miraculous was connected to me, and as such could not be removed...but it meant other things too.
As soon as Arcaa flew into my miraculous, I felt the power surge through my body.
Deftly, I jumped onto the roof of a building, and ran. I boots clicked like horse hooves and I could smell my own fear. Suddenly, I felt another rumble.
Not even pausing, I ran harder...then I spotted them. Volpina.
"Pandora, you idiot! Of course, Chloe couldn't take on Volpina..." I muttered. Hiding behind a large beam of the Eiffel Tower, I watched the battle.
Volpina was surrounded by her army of illusions atop the Eiffel Tower, and the superheroes were having a hard time finding which was the real one. Suddenly, Volpina cast another illusion, and Marigolds appeared. Another one and many Chat Noirs were there.
And they were all talking at once. Some of them acted confused, some acted confident, some looked for the real Volpina...and all throughout, Volpina prepared.
My eyes widened as I realized what she was about to do. But there was nothing I could do to stop it...
Volpina held her dagger in hand and was walking towards Marigold.
From behind, Volpina clamped a hand over the real Marigold's mouth and dragged her out of sight, illusions covering them. I didn't see what happened with Marinette, only that Scarlet Lady and Chat Noir were unaware that Marigold was missing.
Suddenly, all the illusions disappeared. And there stood Volpina, dagger to Marigold's back.
"One little bee. One little bee. See what I see? See what I see?" Volpina sang, hatred dripping off her voice. (Once again to the tune of 'three blind mice')
"Marigold!"
"Chat..." Came the small plead.
I watched, upset...Volpina wouldn't let Chat Noir find out this wasn't the real Marigold.
"A fall from this height would kill anyone...even a superhero...but then again, maybe not...what about a dagger to the heart? Poetic and Efficient. What do you think Marigold?" Volpina asked, mockingly.
"Whatever she asks, refuse Chat Noir! You need to promise me you will!" Came the cry.
"Hush!" Volpina barked at 'Marigold'.
"Let her go, Volpina...I'll do what you want."
"NO!"
"Hmm...well as much as I would love your miraculous, there's something I want even more..." Volpina ran the dagger through 'Marigold', "To see the great superheroes of Paris suffer."
'Marigold' gave off a scream that was cut off as Volpina pushed her off the Eiffel Tower.
"MY LADY!" Chat Noir shouted.
...
I watched, tears dripping from my eyes as the real Volpina held me. Chat Noir...Then, she began dragging me away. I watched the pain on Chat Noir's face and wished I could call out to him.
...
A cataclysm suddenly appeared in Chat Noir's hand.
No...No no no no no! This was bad. Very bad!
I jumped from my beam and towards the elevator. Where was Marinette? I pulled out my golden staff from my purse. It began glowing. I put it away and ran towards the elevator. Marinette must be close.
I noticed there were dents in the elevator doors. I pried them open and found Marinette wound up in her own top, hanging in the shaft.
I quickly freed her and helped her to stand. She spit the gag out of her mouth, "Thank you...umm, I don't know who you are, but thank you. Now I have to go-"
I grabbed her arm, "No...Marinette, we need to hurry."
Marinette looked at me with wide eyes, "You know my secret iden-"
"I gave you your miraculous. Now we have to hurry," I ordered, beginning to pull her towards the side of the Eiffel Tower. From here, you could see the battle.
Volpina and Chat Noir fought furiously.
"No! Chat Noir needs me-"
"Chat Noir thinks your dead."
"...What?!"
"I promise I'll explain everything later. But right now-"
"YOU!" Came a shout. Chloe stood before them, looking as if she'd seen a ghost.
I groaned, "Great, now I gotta take them both with me."
I grabbed Chloe with my other arm, "What is the meaning of this? Unhand me this-"
I quickly whispered a word, and Chloe's mouth filled with mud.
While she was spitting that out, The three of us jumped from the tower to a nearby building.
Suddenly, Marigold yanked her arm from me, "No! I have to go back for Chat Noir. I'm his sidekick-"
"Honey...that boy up there isn't Chat Noir anymore...see for yourself. Fast as you can, meet me at this address..." I knew I was never going to get her to come without her seeing Chat Noir, so I gave up. Typing an address into my phone, I sent it to her.
Then, dragging Chloe behind me, I ran for Fu's.
...
I ran back...Chat Noir needed me. Throwing my top, I flew to the Eiffel Tower and landed on one of the beams. I watched as Chat Noir fought Volpina...he had his cataclysm on, but something was wrong...His cataclysm...it was sputtering in and out of control.
Then, I noticed it. A black butterfly headed his way...and it landed on his bell.
Volpina and Chat Noir immediately stopped fighting...then, Chat Noir was consumed by darkness.
When the darkness faded, Chat Noir stood there...but he was changed. He was pure white...he had red streaks running through his suit, and a Egyptian looking collar. It came down in a point and was white with a broken heart in the center.
I gasped, as I looked at him, and Chat Noir summoned a ball of white energy, crackling with red electricity.
He advanced towards Volpina, slowly. She stood, and looking terrified, searched desperately for an escape, but for some reason, she couldn't fly, though she tried and tried.
Chat Noir was getting closer, "You killed her...without a second thought. You KILLED her."
Volpina shrunk back, "No! That was an illusion. I swear! I can show her to you-"
"LIES LIES LIES!"
He was gonna attack...I had to do something! But I stopped myself...Volpina was an akuma...not just any akuma...she was Lila (Well, according to Scar...so you know, 50/50 chance for truth) should I really save her?
But then I looked at her...she really did look scared. So I ran.
"Chat Noir! Stop!"
He whirled around, "Marigold...MARIGOLD!" He exclaimed, looking overjoyed, then he stopped, and his face clouded.
"K-Kitty?"
"Wow. Real original Volpina. I told you. I'm SICK of illusions!" Then, Chat Noir threw his stick. I simply caught it, and threw it back, "I'm real enough...come one, Chat Noir. Look at-"
"Your illusions have gotten better, Volpina. I'll give you that," Chat Noir complimented.
"No! Chat Noir, it's really-" Suddenly, Chat Noir attacked. He thrust his baton at me. I dodged, "I'm no longer Chat Noir! I am Cassé Chat! The one with the broken heart! My best friend...my sidekick...the girl I never knew I loved...she has been taken from me! And now ALL OF PARIS WILL PAY!"
He attacked again. But it wasn't his usual style. He fought without restraint, and I realized with a sinking heart, that he trying to...to destroy me. He kept attempting to gab at my, trying to make me disappear...he truly thought I was an illusion.
I jumped back, and looked for something I could use to show him I wasn't an illusion...then, I had it!
I jumped from the Eiffel Tower to the ground, and began running towards a street lamp.
"Cataclysm!" I heard the yell.
I ran faster. Suddenly, a little boy came out, and ran towards Cassé Chat, "Chat Noir! You're my favorite hero!" The little boy went to hug Cassé Chat.
"NO! Come back!" I screamed. But I was too late. The little boy had touched Cassé Chat's hand...and he was gone in a whisper of dust...my heart froze. Cassé Chat didn't even seem to notice. For the first time, I met Cassé Chat's eyes...they were white with red streaks of anger running through them...There was nothing else. Only anger.
I began to shake in fear...I had to get out of here!
"Cataclysm."
So, I ran...I ran as fast as I could. I had to get to the address the Lady in Purple sent me. I threw my top to the Eiffel Tower. I landed on top of it, and looked behind me.
Cassé Chat was below, looking up...but he didn't follow. Instead, he turned towards the fleeing Volpina. And he summoned another 'cataclysm'.
