《Marigold; Adventures of Scarlet Lady and Chat》Chapter 4

Funny, being so close to finding your purpose, but so far...that's what I was going through...though I didn't know it at the time. But somewhere in my heart, I knew that being Chat Noir's partner was right. Anyhow, while my heart was full of the confusion and the sadness of loss, my sweet little Tikki was stirring up trouble for her new owner.
...
"What do you mean you won't eat chocolate? Who doesn't eat chocolate?" Chloe cried in dismay.
Tikki just shook her head, "No chocolate!"
"What do you want then?"
"Cookies and macaroons. Dupain-Cheng cookies and macaroons, straight from their bakery."
"What! No way. I will not support that brat's bakery!"
"I won't eat anything else!"
"Ugh, fine! Starve!" Chloe said, disgusted.
Tikki gave an evil smirk, "If you don't feed me, then I can't get my energy back which means you can't transform into Scarlet Lady."
Chloe stopped. She was silent.
Then she grabbed Tikki and tried to shake her. Tikki just phased through Chloe's hands as Chloe started shouting in anger.
Tikki wanted to roll her eyes but refrained from doing so.
...
Tikki happily munched on her macaroon. Her Dupain-Cheng macaroon.
Chloe grumbled in the corner of her room, but Tikki saw her eating a cookie. They really were the best pastries in all of Paris.
...
"So...how was Ladybug? Amazing? Wonderful? Fantastic?" Plagg asked.
I frowned, "Umm...no. She didn't do anything. Just sat, watched, and did her makeup."
Plagg's jaw dropped, "What? No, Ladybug wouldn't do that..."
I shrugged and turned on the news.
'Thanks to this amateur footage, we now know who is responsible for StoneHeart's defeat!' The news lady, Nadia, stated.
I turned towards my computer when suddenly Plagg shouted, "That is NOT Ladybug!!"
I turned, confused, "Well...I mean, she calls herself Scarlet Lady, but she has the miraculous and the powers."
"WHAT! Scarlet Lady? She changed the name too?" Plagg exclaimed, unbelieving.
"I don't really see what the big deal is..."
"Oh...this is so so so bad..."
"Well, there was this girl today though. Her name's Marinette. She's in my class, and today...just wow. I was in over my head with StoneHEart, when she comes running in and saves my tail...she was amazing...and super smart!"

Plagg slowly turned around to face me, "Marinette. Marinette saved you?"
I nodded.
"Excuse me for one moment..." Plagg flopped onto my pillow and screamed, "WHAT DID MASTER DO!?!"
I could only look on in confusion...kwamis were such strange creatures.
Suddenly, a troubling announcement came over the TV.
"Alert. Everyone stay indoors...black butterflies are swarming Paris and turning everyone they touch into stone beings."
...
I walked into school with a smile on my face. Alya was going on and on about her new website called, 'the LadyBlog' and about how cool it was that Paris was now protected by superheroes.
We started to head to class when I noticed a group of people were clumped together...clumped together around Ivan.
Oh no.
"I'll catch up with you later Als...I need to check on something," I said, handing Alya my bag. She nodded and went towards the classroom.
I meanwhile, went towards Ivan.
The talking became evident, "Ya, you were totally trying to kill me. If Chat Noir and Scarlet lady hadn't shown up when they did, you would have flattened me!" Kim was saying.
"Sorry, I wasn't myself...I don't even really remember much," Ivan explained.
"Ya, you totally owe Scarlet Lady! In fact, the whole city does! They should build a statue to honor her...in fact, I'm gonna call daddy about that right now!" Chloe said, bringing out her phone.
"And Chat Noir," Everyone looked at me.
"Who?" Chloe asked.
"Chat Noir. You know, the other superhero? He was amazing, and practically fought off the villain by himself!" I then winced when I remembered that the villain had been Ivan.
"Him? That mangy flee-bag? He didn't do anything! Just sat there-" Chloe scoffed.
"Chloe, I was there. Didn't you see the video? I was the one making a peace sign at the end? With the pigtails?" I implied, "Chat Noir did all the work. It was Scarlet Lady who sat there, just doing her makeup. She wouldn't even use her special powers-"
"That's not true! I did use my-I mean, she did use her special power!" Chloe argued.
"She created a box of cereal. Then she threw it on the ground," I said dryly.
The people around me laughed, even Ivan...well, Chloe didn't. In fact, she was bright red in the face, "HOW DARE YOU! SHE RISKED HER LIFE DEFENDING OUR PRECIOUS CITY!"

I rolled my eyes, "All she risked was breaking a sweat, and how would you know Chloe? Alya didn't film the battle... just the end when we were talking to the superheroes, and you weren't there. How do you know all this? Where's your proof? Listen, I'm not trying to pick a fight, I'm just saying, if anyone deserves a statue to honor them, it's Chat Noir," I shrugged.
But that seemed to only make Chloe angrier...and that anger was lashed out at Ivan, "Well that's all his fault! You know what they say, once a monster always a monster. You're a freak and a fool to think Mylen or any girl would ever love you!" Then, Chloe gave a hair flip and walked away.
Suddenly, Ivan stood and ran off.
Oh no...I turned to Kim, "Kim, come here for a minute," I commanded. He followed me a little ways away from the group.
Then, "You told Chloe about Ivan's crush on Mylan? Are you mad?!" I asked.
Kim shrugged, "I had to find some way to start a conversation with her..." Then he looked guilty, "I never thought it would lead to this..."
I sighed, "Well you'll have to find a way to make it up to Ivan...I'm gonna make sure he's okay."
Then I ran off to find Ivan.
...
"Putting your poem to a song is a great idea!" Marinette said to Ivan, walking towards the classroom.
I came up from behind, and tapped on Marinette's shoulder, "Hey Marinette!"
The girl suddenly jumped and stumbled backward, tripping over her own feet and falling.
I hurried to help her up, "Are you okay?"
"Ya...sorry, you just startled me," Marinette smiled, standing, then, Chloe ran up, "MARITRASH! Do I have to spell it out for you?" Chloe grabbed Marinette's arm and dragged her away.
"Chloe, what are you doing?" I called, running after them. I only caught the end of what Chloe was saying, "He belongs with rich, famous people like me, so BACK OFF!"
Marinette looked like she'd been slapped across the face. What had Chloe said?
"Marinette?" I asked when Chloe had run off to class.
She immediately hung her head, "I'm sorry if I bugged you, Adrien..." Then she ran off too.
What was going on?
...
From there, things went as you know them...kinda. Ivan sang his song to Mylen, but afraid that he was yelling at her with his loud lyrics, she ran off in fear. Heartbroken, Ivan transforms into StoneHeart again, now with an army of Stone Beings at his aid. The first thing he did? Grab Mylen...but then, things went wrong.
"Ivan! Please, put Mylen down!" I called after him, running as fast as I could.
I was shaking, and my heart was pounding, but I knew Mylen must be a million times more frightened right now, so I kept running.
"IVAN!" I screamed.
He suddenly stopped and frowned, "It's okay Marinette. I won't let that Chat Noir scare you," Then he picked me up.
I screamed.
Then, I stopped...I realized Ivan must be trying to protect me...in his own way. When Chat Noir had pretended to attack me...Ivan, er, StoneHeart, must think I was scared of him!
Shoot.
So, we were carried through the city. I noticed with a sinking heart, that the stone beings were following us.
It was starting to rain, and lightning was flashing overhead.
Mylen was beginning to sob.
"Mylen, don't cry! It's okay. Chat Noir will save us...and Scarlet Lady!" I said, trying to cheer her up.
"B-But how? They're two people. StoneHeart has an entire army!" She sobbed.
"Hey, I know it doesn't look good, but we can't give up! We need to be strong to show them we're not scared! Do you hear me? WE ARE NOT SCARED!"
Mylen actually managed a smile, "You're right...with you here, I'm not scared Marinette. In fact, I feel brave!"
I nodded, "Atta girl!"
It began to rain harder, and the ground quaked with every step StoneHeart and his army took. As we traveled through the city, I realized where he was taking us. The Eiffel Tower.
With a sinking heart, I whispered, "Hurry up, Chat Noir...please. I really don't like heights."

Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)

8 144Judas Valiant: Chorus of the Machine Giants
The world of Judas Valiant is bustling with Fantasy and a touch of Steampunk. This is an original tale made as an homage to the famed Studio Ghibli and Guillermo Del Toro, all-the-while taking inspirations from numerous animes and fantasies alike (Too many to love! Too many to name!). When a bloody catastrophe strikes a young boy's home, desperation brings about an unknown visitor. Plagued with gut-wrenching fear and an oncoming spiral into madness comes the boy's only hope of survival. Ripe with desperate opportunity, arrives the many-faced creature rushing to make a deal worth several lifetimes. "To find your way into your parent's arms again, you'll need to become a Valiant." He explained. "A Valiant?" I responded suspiciously. "...One must perform a 3-part task in which you must demonstrate the essence of a Mother, the essence of a Father, and earn the essence of a Gaurdian." He explained with haste. Innocently playing into the unknown visitor's tempting hand, the boy agrees to a deal hopelessly intertwined with a journey like no other and is sent to the mysterious and massive city of New Dwarden. Faced with outrageously colorful characters, towering and seemingly alien animal life, and even talking frogs-lemur's, the boy must adapt to grand adventure to complete his impossible task. This a steampunk story about a second chance at life, one that grows beyond life and death.
