《TROUBLE [twd]》dead and gone

Daryl brushes the hair back from Sakiko's forehead- sweat causing the strands to stick to her skin.
"You know you can't leave me, right?" Daryl asks her sleeping figure.
It had been about thirty minutes since the others left and Sakiko was slowly beginning to breathe on her own. As a precaution in case she woke up, Hershel momentarily removed the respiratory bag- he feared she might choke if she came to with it still in her throat. But, the possibility of her losing breathing was highly likely and Daryl kept a hand on her stomach to make sure she was still breathing as a precaution in case he needed to shout to Hershel.
"That first day.. I didn't think some kid I nearly knocked out with a door would become.." Daryl takes a shaky breath, "Would become the best thing that ever happened to me."
A tear slips from his eyes and he swore he was out of those from putting Merle down to the hurried pace of bringing Sakiko home.
"Cause you are, baby girl," he sniffles, "You're the best thing to ever happen to me."
Running his thumb over her eyes, Daryl's lip trembles. He tries to take a breath again only for it to feel like it was choking him as it gets caught in his throat.
"Kiko.. Please.." he bows his head to rest on her shoulder, "Don't leave me.. Not you."
Daryl could only sit there, with his head on her shoulder- his tears coating her tattered shirt. He didn't know what to do if he was honest. He'd never been this scared. He'd never been so close to praying to whatever God would listen to.
A hand on his back almost brings him back to reality. But, he recognized the delicate touch- a touch that only someone who could relate could hold.
"Carol.. What do I do?" he asks, sounding so pitiful that Merle was probably laughing at him in the afterlife.
"I wish I had the answer," Carol sighs, rubbing his back as comfortingly as she could manage, "Just trust her. Trust that she's strong enough to pull through."
Strong. That's one thing Daryl had never doubted about Sakiko. Her strength was a sight to behold- before and after the world fell.

"Nanami?" Martinez asks, peering over the wall, "You alone?"
"No, I'm not," Nanami answers plainly, stomping to the gates.
"Hey, back off!" Shumpert yells.
"My sister killed the Governor- fuck you!" Nanami screams back.
The two men startle, only watching as Nanami breaks the lock on the gate with his gun and opens it wide open.
"God's sake.." Rick sighs from behind the car he was hiding out behind, "We're coming out!"

Nanami was already storming through the gates as the rest of the group let themselves be known.
"What the hell are you talking about?" Martinez asks, climbing down the ladder.
"Governor killed Merle. Sakiko killed the Governor. Someone shot her," Nanami answers, still making his way through Woodbury, "She saved you people from him. You owe her."
"He's really dead?" Martinez asks, jogging to keep up with Nanami.
"Out by the old biter hole," Nanami reveals, "You can go there and find his body if you want."
Nanami reaches for the doctor's office door and Martinez grabs his wrist- causing the younger male to glare up at him.
"If this is a trick-" Martinez begins.
"My sister is fighting for her life and Doc Stevens has the supplies to save her. This isn't a trick," Nanami hisses.
He rips his hand from Martinez's grip and slams the door behind him. Martinez looks to where Tyreese, Sasha, and Shumpert held their weapons on the rest of the prison group and sighs- running their way.
"Hey, hey!" Martinez calls, "Lower the guns!"
Tyreese and Sasha lower theirs- though, Shumpert's aim stays on Glenn and Rick.
"We'll hear 'em out," Martinez plans, "Shump, you and Tim go see if it's true. Find Gov's body and bring him back."
"This could be a ploy," Shumpert warns.
"Nah, man," Martinez glances back to the doctor's office, "I don't think it is."
--
"It's a good thing Carl found these," Hershel muses, checking the tube.
"Kid's already a leader," Daryl agrees, biting at his lip.
"We'll leave it at two transfusions for now," Hershel decides, "It's best you don't pass out on us or something."
Daryl shakes his head- watching as the needle in his arm causes his blood to flow into Sakiko's.
"Take as much as she needs," Daryl reassures.
"There's only so much you can give," Hershel reminds.
"However much she needs, I got it."
"Do you think the others are there yet?" Ryan wonders.
Hershel begins to reach for his pocket before remembering he'd given the watch to Glenn, "We'll say they have."
--
Tyreese and Martinez drop the Governor's body to the ground- the few Woodbury citizens that felt safe enough to survey the situation gasping in shock.
Nanami looks to Rick before nodding and stepping closer- clearing his throat to speak loud and clear.
"The Governor.. I know that he made you feel safe. He made me feel that way for a while, too. He made Merle feel that way. But.. He wasn't who he made you think he was," Nanami looks to each person he could.
His eyes travel back to the body on the ground- disgust filling his stomach as he looked at the man.

"He made us think that we were doing good in the world for terrible actions.. Killing entire camps and stealing their supplies. He was a monster. Nothing more than that."
"How can we trust your word?" one of the women anxiously asks.
"I never killed a human before meeting him. Since I met him, I killed at least five men for his sake," Nanami admits.
The winter air feels heavier at the revelation. No one could speak- though they hadn't seen the things Nanami had, they could see his determination to kill the prison group coming to light.
"He killed Merle because Merle wanted to right his mistakes," Nanami bows his head, "And my sister is fighting for her life as we speak."
Nanami looks to Rick, a tired and painful smile taking over his lips, "This is what a true leader looks like."
Rick shakes his head, sympathy in his eyes as he watches the young man he knew grow before his eyes.
"The Governor.. Yes, he kept the people here safe. But, if you were to ever have questioned his ways.. He would have had no issue in killing you on the spot. He killed with a smile on his face, saying that slaughter was a merciful end."
Nanami's eyes well up with tears, "I didn't understand it- I thought I was doing what was right. But.. My sister.. She reminded me of what true good is. And now, I could lose her because of him."
A cry catches in Nanami's throat and Maggie steps closer, a comforting hand on his shoulder from behind. But, Nanami couldn't speak anymore as he covers his mouth to muffle his pained cries.
"You can all come back with us," Rick speaks, "We can make something better out of all this. Something good. I know it's scary- but, Nanami is right. We can set aside our differences and live together. We can make this world safer together."
Martinez steps forward, a gun on his shoulder. Glenn and Carl's guards go up, hands lingering to bring their guns to a draw.
Once in front of Rick, Martinez looks him up and down. Then, he holds his hand out.
With a nod, Rick places his hand in the other man's, shaking to an agreement of the terms.
--
Sakiko's eyes flutter open slowly- black spots still adorning her vision as she tries to adjust.
"Kiko?" Daryl asks, softer than she'd ever heard before.
"Where are we?" she asks, voice dry as her throat was raw from the respiratory tube.
"You're home," Daryl soothes, "You're home, honey."
Her face scrunches in pain and Daryl shushes her- easing her to not move.
"Where's Merle?" she questions.
She couldn't remember much- only that she and Merle had gotten caught. Where had he gone? Was he also injured?
"He's all right," Daryl lies, "Don't worry, just rest."
"Nana?"
"He's okay, too," Daryl assures,
"Ryan?" she asks- a certain sparkle in her eyes as she says his name.
"I made him go get something to eat. He's fine," Daryl sighs, reminding her once again, "Rest, Kiko. You need your energy."
"My foot is asleep," she frowns.
Daryl was so tired and high-strung that the simple remark made him laugh like she'd told the funniest joke he'd ever heard.
"Are you okay?" she asks, making Daryl's heart speed up.
"I am," Daryl lies again, "Better now that you're awake."
"Your eyes," she begins to point only for him to push her arm back down.
"Hmm?" he asks.
"You look like that junkie that Nanami stabbed on our birthday."
Again, Daryl could only laugh for a few seconds.
"That's 'cause I'm givin' you all my blood," he teases.
"You?" she asks, glancing to the needle still in his arm- a grin breaking onto her lips.
"What's so funny?" Daryl asks as if he wasn't the one laughing so much.
"We always talk about how we're not blood.." she recalls, "Now, we are. Your blood is running through my veins."
Daryl's face softens, placing his hand back on her head with a small smile.
"We were family long before that," Daryl reminds.
"Still," she lightly hums, "We're blood now."
Daryl bends down, laying a gentle kiss on her head.
Sakiko smiles and as Daryl raises back up she giggles- a movement that leads to a coughing fit.
"Hey, easy," Daryl soothes.
Sakiko continues choking until she couldn't get a deep breath in, her eyes rolling back in her head.
"Hershel!" Daryl screams, standing up from his chair.
Sakiko tries to breathe, but it was clear she was losing the capability again. Daryl places his hands on her chest, mimicking the movements that Hershel had done earlier.
"Hershel!" he shouts again.
There's the distinct sound of crutches until Hershel is making his way in the door with Beth and Ryan following.
"She was awake and now.." Daryl tries to explain, "The hell is going on?"
Hershel takes over, rushes instructions to Beth to get the respiratory bag once again and ready Daryl for another blood transfusion.
"She's running out of time," Hershel says- placing the tube back down Sakiko's throat.
"What?" Daryl asks, hardly able to hear past his own beating heart in his ears- he didn't even notice Beth placing the needle in his arm.
"The others need to hurry."

Fallout: Vault X
An original novel set in the Fallout universe, written to be accessible to all, featuring unique people and places. Vol.II. out now Fallout: Vault X tells the story of John. A vault dweller, who spent every day of his twenty five years underground. Like his father, and his father before him. Proud to live in the last remaining bastion of humanity, all that survived The Great War of the atomic age. Hidden deep below the surface of the earth, toiling under brutal conditions. Year after year, decade upon decade. All to expand into the natural cave system the Vault occupied, building for the future. However, John knew what his forefathers did not, that everything he’d been taught was a lie. After finishing school at the age of ten, John received his standard issue pipboy. An arm mounted personal computer, worn by everyone in the Vault. Used to coordinate the relentless pace of expansion, needed to work as an apprentice. To learn the craft that would be his life’s work. A noble calling to ensure a future for all that remained of the human race. A quirk of fate saw John equipped not with the crude, clunky, pipboy model his father wore. That almost everyone around him wore. His looked smaller, sleeker, finished in a jet black sheen. And capable of doing far more than its drab counterparts. The world above had been ravaged by atomic flames, yet life clung to its bones. The Red Valley fared better than most in the century since the bombs fell. The clean water and rich soil protected by rolling hills. All spared from direct strikes, for the most part. Life survived here. Trees spawned from charred ground, misshapen, green leaves turned red. Along with simple crops, grown wild at first, then cultivated by the survivors. The scavengers of the old world were inventive, hardy people. All determined to rebuild in the ruins of a world they never knew. In the decades that passed settlements emerged. They grew, spreading along the valley floor. Reclaiming the pre-war remnants of the once industrialised heartland. Salvaging the robotic wonders of a bygone age to build their walls and work their fields. To protect them in the dark of the wasteland. But such things are uncommon in this world, and the rarer something is, the greater its value. And the worth of pre-war technology had not gone unnoticed. The last, real, power in this world rested in the mechanised hands of The Brotherhood of Steel. Forged from the mortally wounded old world military. The Brotherhood used its access to the weapons made for a conflict no one won to strike out into the wastes. Men and women were equipped with advanced armour, aerial transportation, high grade weaponry. Accompanied by the training, strength, and will, to put them to use. They established chapters and set up outputs far and wide. All dedicated to a single purpose. To ensure the technology left abandoned by its long dead creators didn’t fall into the wrong hands. Namely, any hands that were not their own. This is the world John escaped into. A place of horrors brought forth from atomic fire. A place where survival meant battling against the darkness. Fighting a war each day to get to the next. And war...war never changes
