《TROUBLE [twd]》playing both sides

Keeping ducked down in the night, Nanami watches as Merle and Martinez leave the Governor's apartment. They trade a nod before breaking off from each other.
Nanami looks around before taking hidden, careful steps to follow after Merle.
He'd listened into the men's conversation more before they left.
Glenn and Maggie were here. The others were in a prison.
The Governor was ready to kill them all until Merle made the exception that nothing happens to Daryl, Sakiko, or Nanami.
But, Shumpert was looking for Nanami. It wasn't adding up to him yet.
Governor had told Merle to bring Glenn and Maggie to 'the screamer pits'. Which means Nanami just has to follow Merle and he will lead the teen straight to the couple. Then, they could figure out how to get the hell out of this place and back to the others.
Nanami followed Merle until Merle ducked into a building that Nanami himself hadn't been in just yet. Looking up and down the street, Nanami pulls his bag closer around him before taking off into a jog.
Just when he's near the building, another door opens and arms grab him from behind- dragging him into the building with their hand over his mouth.
Nanami kicks at the person until finally sinking his teeth into their hand- elbowing the person away from him as another person closes the door.
He kicks at the person that held him, spinning around with his knife up only to come face to face with a sword that stops his motions.
"Calm down," Michonne warns.
Nanami follows the blade until he's looking in her eyes- his knife dropping to the floor in relief. Slowly, Michonne lowers her sword as the other three in the room let themselves be known.
"Sorry," Nanami panics, seeing it was Rick that he'd nearly stabbed.
"It's all right, Nanami," Rick pats his shoulder, wringing his hand that Nanami had bit.
"How.." Nanami begins to ask Michonne until he notices someone else.
Daryl sets his bow on the floor, taking a gentle step toward the teen.

"Daryl.." Nanami breathes.
"You okay?" Daryl asks, eyes pleading with the teen.
The question was more than just him checking on Nanami's condition. It was making sure Nanami was with them and now on Woodbury's side. It was checking to see if the teen he'd had a hand in raising was still the same boy and not someone else.
Silently, Nanami shakes his head because he wasn't okay. Far from it. This place, the Governor, Merle.. It had all gotten in his head and twisted his thoughts and morals until he was a blank slate up for their using. His hands were tainted with the blood of lives that he'd stolen because he was their sick version of a hero.
He'd been ruined. Betrayed. Lied to. His innocence stolen.
Daryl sighs, taking a large step to wrap his boy in his arms. Pulling his lips into a tight line, Nanami clings to the older man as he felt himself go back to a time before. When he was still pure. When all he wanted was to save himself and his sister from the monster they had lived with. Before he had become the monster.
"Sakiko.." he finds his voice.
"She's all right. She's waiting a few miles out for us with Ryan," Rick answers, seeing Daryl wasn't in the best shape to answer either as the man held unshed tears in his eyes.
Nanami only falls more limp in Daryl's hold- security and safety finally at the forefront of his emotions for the first time in nearly a year.
"Nanami," Rick begins, "Have you seen Glenn or Maggie?"
Nanami and Daryl force themselves to comprehend their situation better- peeling away from each other to look at Rick.
"I heard them say they were here. I think I know where," Nanami answers, remembering just who he was following and looking back to Daryl.
"I know," Daryl assures, "I know Merle's here."
"The leader here told him to take them somewhere so I was following Merle to get to them, too," Nanami reveals.

"Can you do it?" Rick asks.
Nanami shuffles awkwardly on his feet, "I think they're after me, too.. One of the guys- he's tracking me."
He looks to Michonne and even though she didn't say it- he could see the 'I told you so' in her eyes.
"But, I can try," he finishes.
"Nah, we'll back you up," Daryl denies, picking his bow back up.
"It's safer this way," Nanami argues, "If things get out of hand, I'll give a call and you back me up."
"He's right," Rick nods, "Last thing we need is Glenn and Maggie getting caught in a shootout."
"I can talk to Merle. I'll get them out of here," Nanami stands his ground.
"Here," Rick holds a gun out, "Just in case."
Nanami nods, taking the gun and placing it in his waistband, "Give me ten minutes or until you hear a gunshot. That's the call."
"If I hear a gunshot, that means things are already out of hand," Daryl bluntly reminds.
"Which is your cue," Nanami expresses, picking his knife up to slide in his pocket, "Ten or a shot. Until then, I have it under control."
"Nanami-" Daryl tries to argue only for Nanami to leave the room.
Hurrying down the street to the place he'd seen Merle go into, Nanami keeps a hand behind his back that rested on the gun. He ducks into the building, scurrying through the halls of the new place until he hears Merle's voice.
"I thank you for your cooperation, really," Merle explains, "But, for my family's sake- I hope you get why it has to be this way."
"Daryl won't forgive you for this," Maggie sneers, "Neither will Sakiko. And if Nanami finds out-"
"Hey!" "Don't touch her!" the screaming is quick and over in a flash as Merle begins to grab Maggie only for Glenn to block the man.
Nanami jogs down the hall, spotting Merle, Glenn, Maggie, and another guard in one area- Glenn and Maggie on their knees.
Nanami closes his eyes, trying to figure out a plan on the spot.
"Come on," Merle motions, "Bags over 'em."
The other man grabs the bags that were meant to be placed over Glenn and Maggie's heads as Nanami pulls his gun out- taking a deep breath.
"Merle!" Nanami shouts, "You down here?"
"Keep it down," Merle warns the couple before calling out to Nanami, "Just a second, son!"
Nanami hurries his steps as the two men try to place Glenn and Maggie back into the room.
Maggie gives a swift kick to the man's crotch and screams, "Nanami!"
The sound of Merle slapping Maggie rings through the air and Glenn shouts in anger- though he couldn't do much with his hands tied.
Nanami breaks into a run, his gun held in front of him as he rounds the corner to see Merle's blade against Glenn's throat as Maggie pleaded with him.
"Son of a bitch," Merle curses, spotting Nanami.
"What is this?" Nanami asks.
Merle takes a breath, shoving Glenn to the floor with his boot against his back to keep him there.
"These people got Daryl killed. Maybe Sakiko," Merle lies, "Left me and you both behind for dead."
Nanami locks eyes with Maggie who whimpers- tears rolling down her cheeks in fear.
"Right.." Nanami nods.
The other man makes it to his feet, pulling Maggie's hands behind her back.
"Nanami," Maggie cries, "It's-"
Maggie's words fall short as Nanami points the gun to her.
Merle chuckles, slowly nodding, "That's right, son. It's only fair we get our due."
"Nanami-" Glenn grunts under the force of Merle's weight, "Don't-"
"We'd do anything for ours," Merle reminds, "We're all each other got now."
"Anything," Nanami repeats, pulling the trigger.

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
