《TROUBLE [twd]》water signs

Sakiko rolls around in the backseat of the car she was in, stretching her arms to look out the window to the dew filled morning.
She rummages in her bag before taking out one of the sodas she found, taking a drink and then regretting it as the drink was flat and warm.
"Gross," she mutters, opening the door and climbing out, dragging her bags out with her.
She doesn't bother with closing the car door, too distracted by how cool the air felt on her face.
"Seriously?" she asks the sky, "It's summer, not winter."
Strapping one of her bags around her back, she does the opposite with the other and puts it around her chest, hugging it close to her for warmth as she resumes her walk.
"I'm getting tired of walking," she informs to the silence around her, "My feet are killing me."
Her mind travels as do her feet, thoughts landing on that geek she'd seen in the vehicle.
A heavy discomfort soaks into her blood and she finds herself running her fingertips along the skin of her cheek.
Daryl had told the twins of the geeks, how it seemed to happen and what they did.. But, it was her first time seeing one in person. Daryl had told them how the geeks only had a person's body- not their mind. It didn't stop the sounds of the growls from infecting Sakiko's mind in the silence.

Exhausted, Nanami falls to his knees, rolling to sit down against a tree trunk. His chest heaves as he wipes the sweat from his brow, head lolling forward in his tired nature. Allowing his head to fall back against the tree, he squints up at the sun.
Had he really been running all night? Those two geeks that were hell bent on chasing him seemed to be left behind- the boy finally outrunning them.

His breath rattles, only leaving his mouth more dry as he was dehydrated. Closing his eyes, he attempts to slow his breathing by inhaling through his nose. His heart was audible in his ears, though it soon drowns out as he calms down enough to hear tree branches snapping and leaves rustling in the distance.
Clenching his jaw, he forces himself to stand with his weak limbs, stumbling back first into the tree. Internally, Nanami reminds himself what he was up against and his feet begin to move begrudgingly through the woods.
Last night was the first time he'd seen the 'walkers' as Rick called them. One had even grabbed his arm and nearly took him then and there- the feeling of the cold, dry skin still like a ghost on his own skin.
As he trips over the branches and limbs in his path, he notices the black spots around his vision. His heart was beginning to beat in his ears again- drowning out the sounds of the walkers behind him.
Nanami risks a look back, hardly able to see the two walkers following him. They were far enough behind that Nanami was certain the only thing that kept them on his trail was the sounds he was making.
Desperately through his lesser than vision, he searches for any salvation. When he notices a tree with a low branch, he shoves the knife back in the case Daryl had given him and staggers his way to the tree. Clutching the bark, he pulls his feet up to stand on the limb. Repeating the motion, he soon scales almost halfway up the tree before a dizzy spell hits him and his footing slips.
With panicked gasps, he kicks to find his grounding again before pushing himself further up the tree. Once halfway up, he throws his leg over a large branch, hugging the tree to stabilize himself. He holds onto the tree tightly, closing his eyes and mouth as tightly as he could to slow his breathing again as to not alert the walkers below of where he was.

After a minute or so, he hears their growls and chances a glance down. Biting his lip, he watches the walkers stumble around, still going in the same direction. Though slow, the walkers gradually leave the area until Nanami can't hear them any longer.
Relieved, Nanami slumps against the tree, too tired to feel the wood dig into his forehead.
--
As the sun was high and hotter than ever in the afternoon, Sakiko soon finds her road breaking into a highway. After another hour of walking, she's walking past dozens upon dozens of broken down vehicles.
She curls her lip in disgust as there was another trapped geek in the driver seat, using her finger to draw a smiley face in the dirt and grime of the window it growled behind. She walks and walks, the stream of vehicles seemingly never ending.
"Geez, where were you all going?" she sighs, stepping over a fallen tool kit.
She continues on until she hears the sounds of growling ahead. Immediately, she ducks behind a car, peering around the corner to spot the source. Once the geek is in her sight, she nervously eases further back behind the cars until her back bumps into the railing.
Stepping over it as quietly as she could manage, she eases down the hill- catching sight of three more geeks on the road. Carefully, she slides and crawls down the steep ground until her feet return to flat ground and she slips back away into the woods.
--
When he heard the sound of running water, Nanami forced himself to move toward it. Once to the creek, he kneels beside it to cup some in his hands and move to his mouth before he hears Daryl's words in his ear- reminding him of the risks of contaminated water.
With a sound of complaint, he instead washes the water over his face. The coolness helps alert him more and he moves to wash his arms and leg where he'd busted his skin open when he was climbing the tree- and the two foot drop when he was coming back down.
The black spots return, Nanami's body swaying back and forth before he's falling forward into the water.
--
Sakiko plucks at the edges of a bright leaf she'd found before flinging it upward in the air to watch it flutter to the ground.
Hearing the sound of trickling water, she changes course and makes her way there. Once to the creek, she drops her bags to the ground and rushes to it, jumping off the hill to make a big splash upon landing. She laughs, jumping again in her spot to make the water move once more. Finally, she gives a big kick to the water, in awe of herself at just how far and high the droplets made it.
Satisfied, she sloshes her way back to the hill until she spots the faintest color of red in the murky water.
She steps around the color that reminded her of ink, hopping back onto the hill to retrieve her bags. Just as she begins to strap one around her back, she sees more of the red liquid tainting the water before seeing something floating in the water.
It floats closer until Sakiko sees it's a body- the person's face almost submerged in the water. Freaked out, she takes a step back, watching the body from her perch on the hill.
Then, as the body makes it's way just under her feet, Sakiko's heart jumps to her throat.
"Nanami!" she cries, dropping her bag and lurching herself back into the water.

I Have Even Read the Rulebook!
As all stories begin, Prof died. Yes, truck-kun had something to do with that, but also a bird, a cat and some rebar. Follow Prof on his road to be rich without working, touring a whole new world without a care and witness his realisation, that despite having read the Rulebook the folks living with the System for untold millennia know more about the rules. Important notes: 1, I'm not a native speaker, so be prepared for occassional typos, iffy grammar and maybe awkward sentences. The spell check was running, when I wrote the chapters, but it works in strange ways... If you point out mistakes, I will try to correct them 2, Scheduling will be two chapters a week, posted Saturdays before noon (CET). Depending on how much new chapters I can write consistently there will be probably more but as long as I have leftover chapters, the two per week will be posted no matter what. Chapters will be around 1500-2500 words as MS Word counts it. 3, I did not and will not post this novel on another site, if you find it somewhere else, please inform me 4, The Main Character's progression is slow, there will be no Levels, Skills, Abilities, Feats, Perks and Cheat Powers raining down on him 5, I've put Comedy as a genre because of my writing style not because the novel is a comedy per se. On the other hand, Traumatising Content is there because there is a lot of speciesism - those Elves are not nice people. 6, I put a lot of pop-cultural references into the chapters, try to find them! Enjoy!
