Night

And the spirit of life

Calling

Oh, oh, iyo

Mamela

Oh, oh, iyo

Rafiki is standing on the tip of the Pride Rock promontory, exhorting the animals gathering below him.

Ubukhosi bo khokho. We ndodana ye sizwe sonke

Wait

There's no mountain too great

Oh, oh, iyo

Hear the words and have faith

Oh, oh, iyo

Have faith

Hela hey mamela

Mufasa appears as a spirit in the clouds. Rafiki is blown by the wind, and he gestures to all the gathered animals below, who bow down before the image.

He lives in you

He lives in me

He watches over

Everything we see

Into the water

Into the truth

In your reflection

He lives in you

On "In your reflection", a giraffe looks up, and Zazu flies in towards Pride Rock. Simba and Nala The animals all cheer, and Simba and Nala are blown by the wind from the approving figure of Mufasa.

(Y/N) struggles playfully in Rafiki's grip.

He lives in you

After much cheering from the crowd, he lowers her to be nuzzled by Nala. Timon and Pumbaa stand nearby.

Ah, Pumbaa-- look at that little guy. A chip off the old block! And you gotta know who's gonna raise 'im...

His parents?

{pause} Okay sure, get technical. But who's gonna teach him the really important stuff? Like how to belch? {burp} And dig for grubs? {jumps down} I'm telling ya, buddy... it's gonna be like old times. You, me... and the little guy.

{Rafiki chuckles} It is a girl.

...Girl.

Girl?! ...Oy!

Timon and Pumbaa collapse in a dead faint.

Who Does She Remind You Of?

we zoom slowly back to Pride Rock, where (Y/N) is playing at Simba's paws atop Pride Rock, gazing down over the side.

Wow.

I giggle continuously, and my Father catches me as i come near the edge.

Whoah. Where do you think you're going in such a hurry?

I wriggle in my Father's grasp as he moves me to safety.

Daddy! Let go!

I keep giggling as i trie to escape.

Well, I just want you to be careful.

I pounce after a butterfly; and my Father steps on my tail to pin me down.

(Y/N)... are you listening? Accidents can happen. You could easily get hurt, or stepped--

I say this well-practiced line along with my Father, and finishes it for him.

...Hurt, or stepped on, or even get lost.

And remember,... I want you to stay in sight of Pride Rock at all--

At all times, I know.

I test at the repetitive warning. I continues reciting

And if I see any strangers, don't talk to them. Come straight home. Okay, okay. Can I go now? Please?

my Mother and Zazu enter. My Father exchanges a glance with My Mother.

Hmm. Very funny.

my Mother laughs gently and said

Mind your father, (Y/N).

I giggle and said

Yes, mom.

And stay away from the Outlands.

Nothing there but a bunch of backstabbing, murderous Outsiders!

Zazu's right... you can't turn your back on them.

I'm geting curious at what there saying and said.

Really? How come?

Mmm... never mind. Just run along now.

But Dad, I--

You'll understand someday. Go on.

Dad...

He runs a paw over me. then nudges me off. I resume giggling and run off down Pride Rock.

And stay on the path I've marked for you!

{Nala chuckles} Simba. Who does she remind you of? Hmm?

{Simba cluelessly} Huh? What? Who?

She's just like you were when you were young.

Exactly. Do you realize the dangers we put ourselves in?

She tackles Simba and puts him on his back.

You mean the dangers YOU put us in.

They chuckle and nuzzle for a few moments, then Nala gets up.

She'll be fine.

She moves off. Simba waits till she is out of earshot.

Hey, Timon. Pumbaa. Come here.

Timon enters, on Pumbaa's back.

Good morning, Capitan.

I want you to keep a close watch on (Y/N). You know she's bound to run off.

No worries, Simba. We're on her like stink on a warthog!

Hey!

It's the hard truth, Pumbaa. Live with it.

You guys, I'm counting on you. Danger could be lurking behind every rock.

Timon looks quizzically at Simba, then takes him mock-seriously.

Ah hah.

He and Pumbaa begin looking theatrically from side to side, scanning behind every rock...

we shift out to the open savannah. Where (Y/N) is walking through the tall grass, chasing a butterfly.

Hey! Wait! Come back! I just wanna play!

I sees the butterfly land, and crouche to attack.

Ahhh... the mighty hunter has cornered her prey. {snarls} Errrrh!

I pounce and it takes me up the side of a small rise, from which i can see a distance into the outlands and said.

Whoah... cool! The Outlands! I wonder what's out there...

A rustling in the grass behind me draws my attention. And i turn, and the grass separates and.

Eeeeek!

(Y/N), Timon, and Pumbaa squeals of fright and surprise

I'm frightened by what happend and go backwards, and i fall off the far side of the knoll into a pool below. Pumbaa gets set to leap after her; Timon jumps off just as he throws himself into the pool.

Oooh, don't worry, (Y/N)-- Uncle Pumbaa's comin'!

Oh, no... ohh... uh... uh... let's see, uh...

he goes in-character as though talking to Simba

Gee, Simba. The good news is, we found your daughter. The bad news is, we dropped a warthog on her. Is... there a problem with that?

Pumbaa is looking from side to side in the water

(Y/N)? (Y/N)?

Pumbaa! Let me define "babysitting"!

Pumbaa finds (Y/N) underneath him, spluttering, and he gets off. Sorry. Now, Princess (Y/N)... as Simba's daughter, you know better than to go off all alone. You could have been hurt!

But... but...

Hurt! Oh... Simba would kill us! You didn't slip a disc, did you?

B-but--

Timon checks to make sure (Y/N) is intact. Catch a fever? Get a hangnail?

Timon is examining my claws. And i pull my paw away.

Nnngh! Timon...

I had one once.

Very painful.

Excruciating!

Timon is holding a fern branch over my head, shading me.

Darling... with your complexion, you should stay out of the sun.

I swats the branch away

Whaaat? Do you wanna wrinkle?

Would someone please just listen to me?

I'm sorry; I wasn't listening. Did you say something, Princess?

I am not just a princess, you know. That's only half of who I am!

Oh, uh... who's the other half?

Uh... well, I, uh... um...

Well, while you're figuring it out, let's eat. {He snaps his fingers, and Pumbaa lifts up a log} Grubs!

The other white meat!

Timon is offering a leaf-full of grubs to me. And so high in protein!

Eww! Gross!

No? How 'bout you, big boy?

{sniff} Aaah. Love grubs!

Not like...

Love!

Timon tosses a bug into Pumbaa's mouth; he crunches and coughs on it a little, then hiccups and spits the fragments back onto the leaf, coating them all with saliva.

Timon is grossed out.Ohhh.. you always do that! You take a bite out of every one, and then put it back. It drives me crazy!

But you can't tell from the outside which are the real slimy ones!

Slimy? Pumbaa... my corpulent compadre. It's the crunchy ones that make the meal!

Slimy!...Crunchy!... Slimy!...Crunchy!... Slimy!...Crunchy!... Slimy!...Crunchy!... Slimy!...Crunchy!... Slimy!...Crunchy!... Slimy!... Less filling!...Tastes good!... Less filling!...Tastes good!... Less filling!...Tastes good!... Less filling!...Tastes good!... Low fat! Check, please!

I wander off while they argue. I cross a river on a log, and tumbles off-- directly into a another lioncub, bowling him over. He snarls at me confrontationally, and continues growling.

Who are you, Pridelander?

I do not answer, but i keep jumping from side to side, staying facing the lioncub at all times. The lioncub keeps growling menacingly, but eventually his curiosity gets the better of him.

What are you doing?

My dad says to never turn your back on an Outsider!

You always do what Daddy says?

No!

Bet you do. Bet you're Daddy's little girl! Ha ha! {he moves away, hopping on logs across the river} An Outsider doesn't need anyone. I take care of myself!

I awed, following him across. Really? Cool!

The lioncub looks back at me, and notices a huge crocodile rising up behind me with its mouth gaping

Wuhh... waaaahh!

i turn and sees the crocodile. Aaaaahhh! Run! The crocodile's teeth crunch just behind us. This way!

We narrowly escape, leaping from rock to rock across the river and out of the reach of the crocodiles' jaws as more and more rise up out of the water. We rest on two unmoving "stones" further down, and begin to pant and giggle.

That was a close one.

Yeah...

The stones that where are sitting on rise up and reveal themselves as more crocodile heads. Me and the other lioncub scream

Whooaaahhh...

I run up a tree, And getting out of reach; however, the liocub runs past me,leaping from crocodile to crocodile down the river.

Hey.. what about me?

I'll distract them. Run!

The lioncub slips off the last crocodile into the water; as he comes up, gasping for air, the crocodiles loom over him.

i whas trying to help by swiping at crocodiles from my branch

Look out!

The lioncub is paralyzed by fright; by the gaping mouth in front of him is suddenly clamped shut by me leaping on top of it.

Move it!

we scramble up a branch and up onto the bank, out of reach of danger. From the top, we pant and rest for a few moments, then move back to look over the edge. The crocodiles are massing below, furious at being cheated of their meal.

I did it... I did it!

I "thhppbbts" at crocodiles below

Hah!

We move back from the edge and recount our adventure.

Whoah, man-- did you see the size of those teeth? They were goin' "Rrrarrarrarr" ....

I rolls over on my back and laugh

He was just totally eatin' you up right there, and I jumped on his head-- and I bopped him so good--

We move back so that we can see from next to Zira, crouching in the grass some distance away.

We make such a good team! And you... you were really brave!

Yeah... you were pretty brave too. My name's Kovu.

I'm (Y/N).

I crouches down playfully, waving my tail; i reach out and bat him

Tag! You're it!

I jumps back, laughing; instead of chasing, Kovu just looks at me silently. I trie again.

Tag! You're it! You're it!

Still no response; he just stares at me.

Hello? You run, I tag... get it? What's the matter? Don't you know how to play?

Getting an idea, she crouches down and goes back to playing his style, with bared teeth and growls. He gets the idea and mock-growls back, but suddenly he finds himself growling at my Father's leg. my Father roars, and i persume Kovu's Mother jumps out of the grass and roars back. She ducks her head lower than Simba that she nearly touches the grass.

Zira.

Simba!

My Mom, Timon, and Pumbaa arrive behind my Father, with other lionesses.

Nala.

Zira.

Timon, Pumbaa. Great. Now that we all know each other.. GET OUTTA OUR PRIDE LANDS!

Your Pride Lands?

she snarls at Timon, making Timon leap backwards over Pumbaa's head in fear

These lands belonged to Scar.

I banished you from the Pride Lands! Now you and your young cub... get out!

Oh... haven't you met my son, Kovu? He was hand-chosen by Scar to follow in his

pawprints... and become King!

Pbbb! That's not a king... that's a fuzzy maraca!

Kovu was the last born before you exiled us to the Outlands, where we have little food, less water...

You know the penalty for returning to the Pride Lands!

But the child does not! However... if you need your pound of flesh... here.

She nudges Kovu towards my father, daring him to show either ruthlessness or cowardice.

Take him and get out. We're finished here.

My Father picks me up in his teeth. And Zira walks over to My dad and looks down at a terrified me.

Oh no, Simba... we have barely begun.

She glares wickedly at me, then turns awe and picks up Kovu in her jaws. He and me watch each other dangle as we move apart.

Bye...

Bye...

My Dad and the lionesses move off over the ridge, back toward the Pride Lands, while Zira takes Kovu back to the Outlands. Once within sight of Pride Rock, my Mom looks back at my dad.

Simba?

My dad clears his throat, with me still in his mouth

My Mom smiles back at him, understanding that it's time for The Talk. She and the rest of the pride move off back home. Dad drops me, I grin ingratiatingly up at him; he glares sternly back. I I look at the ground, sighing.

(Y/N), what did you think you were doing? You could have been killed today.

But Daddy, I-- I didn't mean to disobey--

I'm telling you this because I love you. I don't wanna lose you.

I know...

If something happened to you, I don't know what I'd do. One day I won't be here... and I need you to carry on in my place. You are part of the great Circle of--

Circle of Life. I know.

Exactly. And you need to be careful. As future Queen--

But what if I don't wanna be Queen? It's no fun.

That's like saying you don't want to be a lion. It's in your blood... as I am. We are part of each other.

He smiles and playfully shoves me off the rock.

Dad grins back down at me, and we nuzzle as Dad begins singing.

As you go through life you'll see

There is so much that we

Don't understand

A mother bird sternly prevents one of her chicks from trying to fly; a wildebeest calf gets up for the first time as we watch.

And the only thing we know

Is things don't always go

The way we planned

But you'll see every day

That we'll never turn away

When it seems all your dreams come undone

Monkeys grooming each other, hippos jumping and playing.

We will stand by your side

Filled with hope and filled with pride

We are more than we are

We are one

I sing to my reflection in the river. A fish jumps out of the water and into my reflection at "The way I am?"

If there's so much I must be

Can I still just be me

The way I am?

Can I trust in my own heart

Or am I just one part

Of some big plan?

Wind blows by Simba, underscoring the reference to Mufasa's spirit.

Even those who are gone

Are with us as we go on

Your journey has only begun

Tears of pain, tears of joy

One thing nothing can destroy

Is our pride, deep inside

We are one

They run through groups of curiously unafraid animals, many with their young, as they approach Pride Rock.

We are one, you and I

We are like the earth and sky

One family under the sun

Running back up Pride Rock. He indicates it to her.

All the wisdom to lead

All the courage that you need

You will find when you see

We are one

As long as you live here, it's who you really are.

he hugs her and licks her side, lifting her body off the ground. She seems unconvinced

You'll understand someday. A bird flutters by her, circles, and flies off over the Pride Lands into the sun. (Y/N) looks sadly thoughtful for a second, and then turns to face the sun. Sitting down, she looks at the ground for a second, ears flat, but then looks towards the sun, ears erect. And we fade to black.
