《Black Cat » The Vampire Diaries》Mythical Bullshit

Bonnie Bennett was enjoying life, or in other words, I was drinking the blackest coffee served in the Grill and eating a donut while relishing on the remaining hours of an Elena-free universe. Unfortunately, good things don't last forever and someone took a seat in front of me, interrupting my alone time.
"What's this I hear of a secret deal between you, little witch, and my most noble brother?" Kol Mikaelson inquired, sitting down like a lazy cat with a relaxed attitude. I had to admit he had taken well to this century, it suited him. If I didn't know any better I would say he was just a normal teenager, maybe a college student of some sort.
"Well, good morning to you too." I replied dryly, narrowing my eyes at the vampire's question. Why was he meddling into my business? "Were you raised in a barn by some chance? Then again, I'm not surprised your parents didn't teach you any manners."
"Well, I was raised in a hut but I suppose it could be considered a barn by today's standards." He replied with a grin, before refocusing the conversation. "Well, Bonnie lass, what was it about this deal I heard about? Something about my bastard of a father, wasn't it?"
If I was surprised that Kol mentioned Mikael so casually I didn't show it. Either this was a test to understand my knowledge of his family, or he simply wanted more information on what Elijah was planing.
I silently took another sip from my coffee, while I considered my options. I hadn't told Elijah I would keep the deal a secret, not to mention it was better to inform Kol so that he wouldn't screw up anything further down the line.
"Well, since you weren't exactly being forthcoming with the location of your other siblings Elijah came to me for a deal. But, telling him the location would put me in danger from Klaus so instead, I gave him the location of your father's desiccated corpse in return for some information and that he would keep the fact that I woke you to himself." I calmly explained.
As soon as I finished, the Original was beaming like a child. Not a smirk, not a grin, but a full-on beam. For a minute I was caught unprepared with that sight, before forcefully looking away.
"So that wanker is finally getting his dues, may his soul be forever trapped on the other side with our bitch of a mother." Kol remarked, amused at the prospect of his parents being stuck together on the other side while they had to watch them, the abominations, live their lives free for the rest of eternity.
All of a sudden he stopped moving and narrowed his eyes as if he had thought of a clever scheme to pull out of his ass. "Wait, you got Elijah's silence on my release? As in, he wouldn't tell Nik about it?" The Original asked.
"Well, I got him to keep quiet about my involvement. I don't know what he will tell him exactly, just that my name won't be mentioned." I shrugged. "You do know that he will find out you're out, right? I mean, the only reason why you haven't been found out yet is that Klaus was busy with the sacrifice."
"Oh, I know that." Kol said, nodding along while grinning like an imp. "But you just gave me a great idea, I'm going to fool Nik into thinking that I've been out of the box for years. It will be the greatest prank since that one time that I cut Rebekah's hair and framed him for it."

Alright, that idea had merit. If Klaus thought Kol had been out since before I was born, that would be covering all my bases. "Well, that's a good idea. But how are you going to pull it off?"
"I'll write him a letter in parchment, gloating in his face that I had my witch friends release me soon after he daggered me and that I will enjoy my freedom far away from his raging moods, Elijah's lame lectures, and Rebekah's stupid quests for love." He explained, coming up with a plan. "Then you magic up the parchment into my coffin and when he breaks the illusion you left in my place he will find it."
I was enjoying the plan until that last bit. "What will you offer me for that little piece for magic then? Actually, never mind that. You actually still owe me."
"Indeed I do, do you think I had forgotten?" He said with a light shrug. "I was letting you wait it out a bit, just like you let me wait for freedom. Fair is fair, after all."
I nodded, I guess I deserved that. "Fine. So what is my ancestor hiding from me and what do you know?"
"You are no longer human." He stated, carefully analyzing my reaction to the bomb he just dropped. "That ritual you did, witches have tried for centuries. No one survives, ever, because witches have human bodies that can't contain such power. I don't know how you did it, but you're not human anymore."
I processed the information, making sure my face was blank. Ok, that's interesting. Not human? That's fine. So I somehow changed my species by accident? Can't be worse than dying and being reborn in a fictional universe. If that ritual had failed and I died, I would have come back as a vampire. Again, changing species can't be worse than being reborn as a baby.
"Oh, that's cool I guess." I finally replied as Kol had been watching my reactions like a hawk. "Was that all she was keeping from me?"
"Apparently, you're the first to create a new species from magic since my mother." He replied, a bit puzzled by my lack of reaction to the news. "Also, if you die you somehow destroy the other side, so try not to."
Now that caught my attention, and I frowned. "If I die, the other side gets destroyed? How? I'm not the anchor."
"What's the anchor Bonnie lass?" He asked back, fishing for information himself. I decided to share a bit, to see if he would reply in kind.
"The other side has an anchor that holds it up, the only way for it to drop completely is to destroy the anchor," I replied, not mentioning Amara or the Travelers. Kol nodded, he understood, a spell that size and that lasted for so long needed a power source.
"She said that if you ever died, there was a 95% chance the other side would be destroyed because you're a special little witch." He explained while searching for any sign of understanding. Kol didn't understand what Qetsiyah meant, but maybe Bonnie would.
Bonnie blinked, comprehension flooded her mind like a tsunami with such strength that she couldn't keep her face blank from the shock.
The witches had said her soul had been kicked out of the wheel of reincarnation, which was a fact and it made her different (special). She was a witch, or whatever the hell she had become now, but a supernatural nonetheless, and as such her soul would go to the other side when she died. Maybe, because her soul didn't belong here in this universe it would destroy the other side? Maybe the other side couldn't contain her? Was that why Tessa had shown an interest in her?

She could stay here all day trying to come up with ideas that explained this. Either way, this meant that Tessa definitely didn't want her to perish and that was a plus in her books.
"You know why." Kol calmly stated, seeing the understanding look in her eyes. He couldn't deny that he was curious, but he wouldn't push her. Not yet, at least.
"Yes." I didn't deny it, but I also didn't give him any more information. We were both testing the water, so to speak.
"Does that mean you also know what you became after that little ritual of yours?" Kol asked casually, but she could see right through him.
"Also?" I repeated the word that caught my attention, narrowing my eyes at him. "You know... don't you?"
"I might have figured it out." Kol Mikaelson grinned while shrugging his shoulders and leaning back against his seat with a carefree attitude. "And since it's not information that I learned from your ancestor, I guess you'll have to bargain for it."
"What do you want?" I asked with a frown. Generally, I was the one receiving that question, not the one making it. It wasn't a pleasant feeling, I guess that why Peaches always looks like he swallowed an acid lemon whenever he sees me.
"Well, help with fooling Nik would be appreciated," Kol stated.
"Done." I replied before he could ask for something else. A teleportation spell on an object was much easier than teleporting oneself.
"I gathered that you will be on dear old mother's case should she return from the grave, correct?" The Original said, changing the subject all of a sudden making me blink in confusion.
"Yes." I said, not bothering with questions. Kol had obviously been speaking with Tessa while he was on the other side, I do have to wonder how that team-up came to be... that's a huge plot twist from canon, that was quite interesting.
"Let's help each other out when that happens, how about it?" Kol proposed. In truth, Kol didn't care that much about his dearling old mum returning from the dead when he knew that Nik would kill her when she tried something up. However, this way protecting his little witch would be easier.
"Fine." I replied with a shrug, gathering allies to deal with enemies was always a smart plan. If plan A, the plan for Esther never waking from her coffin didn't work; then killing her with Kol's help would be a good plan B.
"And also..." Kol said, pulling himself against the table to close the distance between them. "How about a second date darling? I promise less fire next time."
"Fire..." I whispered, before glaring at the snickering Original. "You son of a bitch, you set the fire up didn't you?"
In the canon timeline, Augustine didn't go up in flames the second time so for it to happen now it meant that someone that wasn't there originally was to blame. Elijah and Caroline had been with me, but Kol had been left alone when he went to get drinks. That's what my witchy spider senses had been telling me, I hadn't realized it.
"How else would I have figured out what you were lass?" Kol lamely explained himself, but I could sense that he was slightly sorry even if I couldn't expect a verbal apology anytime soon. "But our next date will be fire-free."
I let out a sigh and nodded, so he's a pyromaniac as well... how nice.
"Well, what did you figure out?" I asked having silently agreed to a next date, after all that smoke and fire it better be something good.
"How to explain what you are..." He said, tapping his chin while thinking. "Ohhh, I know." He made a grab for one of his back jean pockets and took out his mobile phone. I silently watched him, a bit skeptical as he wrote something on his device. He finally nodded and passed me the phone.
I looked at the screen, and my eyes popped out of my skull. I looked at Kol and scowled with all my might, trying to freeze him where he stood with my coldest glare.
"Kol..." I snarled, wanting to throw the phone at his forehead. "This is a Wikipedia page."
"Well have at it darling, read it out loud." He nodded with a grin, probably not understanding my anger.
"A nymph in ancient greek folklore is a minor female nature deity. They are generally regarded as personifications of nature, are typically tied to a specific place or landform, and are usually depicted as beautiful maidens." I read out loud, and even if skeptical I had to admit there were some similarities. I had literally become water and air, I felt more bound to Mystic Falls since the ritual and I was a beautiful maiden (maybe that last bit was just my ego talking).
"You appear to still be a witch, though your body is no longer that of a human," Kol informed, watching her frowning face with curiosity. "Some sort of hybrid maybe, or being a nature deity gives you the ability to still have magic. I'm not entirely sure."
"Bullshit. I mean, why a nymph?" I asked, still looking at the Wikipedia page.
"Well, the shoe fits. Everything matches don't it?" Kol said, a bit proud of himself.
I rolled my eyes at his attitude. "Pardon me for being skeptical, your sources leave much to be desired. I mean I can't even use Wikipedia for my school works, never mind believing whatever it says about my bloody species. Have you ever even seen a nymph? If nymphs exist then how does me becoming one result in a new species as Tessa told you?"
"I've never seen a nymph." Kol replied, if a bit hesitant. "But... I do know that once upon a time there were more than just witches, wolves, and vampires. But when you take away the power of belief, it's like they never existed."
"I understood absolutely nothing." I told him with a grimace, I had long forgotten what being clueless felt like but I was feeling it right now and I didn't like it.
"Look, when you're on the other side you see things that don't make sense, things that you're not meant to see. What I'm telling you is that, I've never seen a nymph but I have seen things out of Greek mythology and folklore. They exist." Kol's tone matched his the expression, he was being serious for once.
"Like a hydra? Or a pegasus? Minotaur?" I asked half skeptical, half morbidly curious.
"Think lady with snakes in her head, and let's leave it at that." Kol replied with a grimace.
"Seriously?" I asked a bit more loudly than my normal tone, shocked and a bit marveled. Seriously, Gorgons were cool and Medusa was an awesome lady dealt a bad hand by the gods. I mean she screwed Poseidon and Athena just cursed her for what? Doing it with her uncle, the god of the seas, in her temple? How about cursing the dude too? How's that fair?
"Seriously, let's not talk about that." Kol said, trying to change the subject. "Nymph is a personification of nature, I don't know how they came to exist but If I am right there a chance that whatever makes you special enough to destroy the other side should you die might be tied with how you became one."
I put the existence of Gorgons to the back of my head and focused. Could nymphs have been reincarnations? Is that how it worked? Could they have once died and been reborn as a part of nature?
Living in a supernatural teen drama was becoming more confusing by the day. Yesterday all I had to deal with was Vampires, Doppelgangers, Witches, and Werewolves. After today I had expected to add Hybrids to the list, but not Gorgons and Nymphs and God knows what else.
"Maybe." I replied to Kol. I was still keeping the cards near my chests but I had to admit he had been useful, even if slightly annoying. His face was nice to look at, but that just made him more troublesome.
"I've asked an old witch friend to find some information for me on nymphs, I'll tell you what I find." He added, and she couldn't help but feel slightly grateful. It was bound to be more reliable than Wikipedia.
"I'll only tell you this once," I said, feeling a bit sour but It had to be said. "Thank you."
"Don't mention it, darling. Now, how about you help me write that letter to Nik." He said with a grin that I started to like seeing in his face. "I was thinking about starting with... greetings my wanker of a brother and other infernal siblings, that knife in the heart for Christmas does not count as a proper gift..."
"Where have you been?" Caroline asked as soon as I walked through my front door, her hands on her hips while she looked at me like a worried mother.
"Hello mother, I was at the grill having breakfast. How has your day been so far?" I replied, sarcasm in my tone.
She rolled her eyes at my reply, before narrowing her eyes at me. Yup, I knew what was coming. It was a Caroline mega rant, she was focusing her breathing and everything.
"You bailed on me, I had to deal with Elena and well... Jenna's still processing the whole vampire thing and she saw Elena while she was dead so she's having a breakdown. Apparently, Damon was bitten by a random werewolf and is dying, Stefan is running out on fumes trying to keep it together and keep everybody else from losing it and Elena's just in shock from the ritual last night." Caroline ranted, passing in circles. "I don't even know what Rik's doing, I mean, I think Jenna kicked him out so he's probably drinking the Grill dry. Tyler sent me a text, he's with your buddy the sexy wolf. Matt, I don't know... he's just Matt. I came to ask you how we can save Damon, for Stefan obviously, because I remembered you mentioned something about it before..."
"Caroline, I got it." I called out before my ears started bleeding. "Calm down, take a breath ok?"
The blonde vampire finally stopped her pacing and followed my instructions. "In, out, in, out." When she finally calmed down she gave a sheepish smile, silently apologizing for going off on a stress rant. "Sorry, Bon."
"It's fine." I said, rolling my eyes at her apologetic puppy eyes. "Believe it or not, I've grown quite used to your rants by now Care. Now, text Stefan and tell him to talk to Klaus if he wants to save Damon. Then call Jenna over, I think she needs to talk to someone that didn't exactly lie to her face every day like me and you. Never mind Elena, she's traumatized but at least it wasn't her aunt dying on her too. Alaric is a dick, he totally deserves it. Tyler and Reed are fine and just pretend that Matt doesn't exist. There, done."
"Have I told you that I love you today?" Care replied pulling her into a side hug.
"Not today, but love you too Care." I replied with a small smile before pulling her to sit on the couch nearby. "Now that your drama's over, you are not going to believe the information dump I got today."
"What happened?" The blonde narrowed her, slightly worried. Information dump meant new information, that rarely happened with her know-it-all witch friend.
"Well, apparently that ritual changed my species, I'm something else now, the best bet at the moment is nymph but Kol came up with that from Wikipedia so I'm waiting for concrete evidence. Also, apparently, I can't die or the other side goes to shit. And did you know that Gorgons are real? Like, I don't know if I should believe Kol but he looked freaked out when he mentioned chicks with snake hair..." I rambled this time, after all, I had learned something with my best friend and that was to control your breathing while you ranted like a pro.
"Seriously?" Caroline asked, more shocked than everything.
"I know right?" I replied with the same incredulous look on my face.
Yes, just another day in Mystic Falls.
