Your brother sits you down on the back of his motorcycle, stuffs a helmet over your head roughly, and drives away from that expensive mansion of his. Only a few minutes later you arrive at another huge building, a gambling hall.
He casually takes off your helmet for you and tosses it carelessly onto the bike before getting up and walking off. "C'mon," he calls as he stops and waits for you by the large entrance doors.
He waits as you run up and link arms with him. He then casually leads you inside, walking right past all of the staff as though they were completely invisible until he reaches the back. There, he slides open the door and reveals a small, dimly lit room with an oval-shaped table in the center. Around it sits six men that you've never seen before. You'd definitely remember meeting them, they are seriously scary looking.
Koko smirks when he sees them. "Yo! Mind if we jump in?" he asks.
"Sure," the man with short, lavender hair shrugs.
Koko takes a seat and pulls out the chair beside him to his left for you. The six others watch as you take the seat beside him and sit rather close.
"Who's the chick?" the man with pink hair and scars on either corner of his mouth questions rather loudly.
"My little sister. She's pretty unlucky and quite bad at card games. Mind if she joins?" he hums.
"Yeah, sure thing," the group laughs at the easy cash cow they begin to believe you are. "What'd you have in mind, Kokonoi?"
"How 'bout pig?" he smirks.
"Ya mean like the kid's game?" a ginormous man scoffs.
"Makes sense since I've got my kid sister here with me," Koko shrugs. "As I've said she's not very good with games so at least this one won't be too hard for her."
Damn, that jerk is really milking this. I'm only one year younger goddammit!
Another man with a scar over his left eye rakes in your figure. "Fine," he shrugs, "I'm in."
"What do ya think, Ran?" a man with long, purple hair who looks quite similar to the man sitting beside him asks.
"Sure," Ran shrugs. "I'll play along."
The monstrously-sized man as well as the quiet one beside you nod in agreement as well. That only leaves the pink-haired male sitting across from you.
"Alright," he smirks. "Go on then."
"Great, make sure you guys don't go too rough on her, okay?" Koko grins, eliciting a laugh from the others.
"Think we can trust this girl?" the man beside you with a large scar wrapping around his face wonders aloud.

"She looks fun so why not?" the pink-haired man beams.
Koko then suddenly slaps down two hundred thousand yen on the middle of the table. "She's good for two hundred K," he explains. "You assholes okay with that?"
Your eyes widen at the money sitting in the middle of the table. If you weren't around your brother, you might have half a mind to just slide it right off the table and run away. There's no chance in hell you can win this game anyway.
As each one of them slaps down equal amounts of the cash before you, your eyes nearly bug out of your head. Koko better have a good plan...
"Alright," the huge man calls to your brother as he tosses him a deck of cards. "You deal."
"Yeah, sure," Koko smiles as he picks up the cards from the table.
You watch as he shuffles the deck and then hands cards out one at a time to each player around the table. You pick up your cards as you receive them, somewhat recalling the rules of the game. You remember you used to play Pig all of the time with Koko, Inupi, and Akane when you were little. You always lost, Koko whooped your ass each time. You never quite figured out how he did it. Being the pig always sucked.
"Keep a cool head and you'll be fine," your brother whispers.
"Yo!" the man across from you shouts. "No cheating, scum!"
"Sorry," Koko bows apologetically. "She hasn't played this game in quite some time."
The man with the scar over his eye scoffs. "Why the hell did you pick this game then?"
"Seemed like fun," Koko smiles. "It begins back memories."
The group narrows their eyes in Koko's direction but he hardly pays them any mind. Instead, he begins to reexplain the rules of the game to you.
"Pass a card to the left, that's Kakucho, and then pick up a card from your right which is me. Keep doing that each time it's your turn until you get four of a kind, got it?"
"Yeah," you nod, recalling how to play.
"Okay, don't go slow now or this won't be any fun," the man across from you sings.
"Don't worry, she'll get the hang of it."
Koko then begins by taking from the man on his right. You then pass one off to Kakucho beside you before receiving one from Koko. The pink-haired guy was right, the game does go by rather quickly. Cards circulate fast and you have a hard time tracking whose turn it is until you notice Koko's about to place a card in your hand.

You realize that you've got nothing that makes any kind of sense or denomination. Given the time restraint, you begin passing cards at random to the man on your left.
As the game drags on, you notice that the pink-haired man is smiling to himself; he must be close to winning. There's also a faint smile on either of the two men who look similar. As for the rest of the strangers, they're either frowning or keeping a good poker face. However, the game is going too fast for you to be able to see the expression on your brother's face. You just hope to God that he's got some kind of a plan.
"So," the man across from you asks, "how do we determine the winner?" At the same time, he places down four jacks for the whole table to see.
"It's simple," Koko smirks. "The Pig is the winner."
"You fucking dunce!" the man shouts as he stands up and mindlessly scapes his chair loudly against the floor as he seethes. "What the hell, that's not how this game works!"
"No matter how we play it's not going to be fair, Sanzu," your brother scoffs. "Not with everyone cheating and all."
Sanzu sits down with a huff and pouts to himself as the game starts up again. Koko gives you card after card while you continue to throw out random cards to Kakucho. Between turns you notice how Sanzu's eyes grow darker and darker, but can't really protest since nobody else is paying him any mind.
"So how will you know if we're cheating?" Ran asks. "We could easily give away a good card."
"Sanzu will tell us," Koko smirks. "He's already worked up and passionate about it that I'm sure he'll do us the favor of helping us all out. Same with whoever else gets out."
The pink-haired male stands up once more with a big smile painted across his face. "You can sure count on me," he beams. He begins to walk around the table, following as the cards circulate around. When he gets behind you and Koko, he slows down immensely. He's definitely trying to figure out what Koko's up to. As for you, you're just surprised he hasn't gotten out yet. Koko was always the first to collect the denomination of four when you were kids...
Soon there's a loud growl of unhappiness from the large man a few seats down from you. He throws out his cards with a frown and stands up to accompany Sanzu. Only a turn or two later Kakucho and the man with the scar over his eye throw down their piles, too.
"So, Koko," Ran begins, picking on your brother once more, "You think you're going to get two hundred thousand yen out of each one of us?"
"No, to be completely honest that was never my plan," Koko smirks. "Not at all actually. I'm surprised you haven't realized that yet."
"Well with that look on your face I'm sure that you're cheating somehow," Ran scoffs.
"Like you aren't," Koko replies casually as he watches you hand a card to the brother with longer hair before passing you another card.
"I'd never do that," Ran shakes his head. However, on Koko's next turn he folds.
You look down and quickly rake through your cards. You've got three of a kind and you just open to god you don't get a fourth. As you try to decide your next move, Koko stands up and walks around behind the two brothers in an effort, you believe, to make sure neither of them cheats.
With three tens and one six, you decide to pass the card labeled six to the brother with long, lavender hair hoping to god that'll get him out. However, it's during Ran's turn that you hear the man mumble under his breath and throw out four sixes.
The brother still in the game looks at you with nervous eyes. It's your turn. After receiving a two from Ran, you realize that his brother's got the rest of them!
The room is tensely quiet as you spit out the card and toss it over to him. When the man folds, the room is struck with an even thicker silence. That is until Koko breaks out in laughter.
"See, I told you my little sis sucks at these kinda games. You all walked right into that, you know. You really should listen to me more," he chuckles as he walks over to you casually. "Seriously, Y/N, who knew your unluckiness would finally pay off?"
He then reaches into the center of the table and quickly collects the pile of 1.6 billion yen that he folds into a fat, yellow envelope. He then tosses you the paper and pats you on the head.
"Good job, as expected. Now let's go."
As you stand up slowly (still a bit in shock that you actually won) the group stares you down as though they're about to murder you. However, without another word from anyone, Koko pushes you out of the room before they get a chance to pounce.

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
