《The Land of Stories: The Adventure Continues》The Pen of an Author

Elizabeth and her newfound friend Nathaniel traveled through time and landed on the steps of the Willow Crest Children's Hospital.

"Where are we?" Nathaniel said standing up and looked at the row of cars in the parking lot in awe.

"We're at the Children's Hospital where my grandma and grandpa worked," Elizabeth said. "I don't know what time we're in, but maybe my dad will be here."

"Your dad? Time? Where are we?"

"I know it's weird but we've just traveled through time. My dad is an author so I need to find him and get a pen from him." Elizabeth explained. "Now that I'm thinking of it, we didn't really need to travel through time for this. I could have just gone home and grabbed a pen from my Dad's office. Oh well, too late now, let's head inside and see what we can find."

Elizabeth and Nathaniel walked up the stairs when the sound of an explosion sounded. Elizabeth and Nathaniel were so scared and startled by the sound that Elizabeth held onto Nathaniel and Nathaniel drew his sword.

"What was that?" Elizabeth said still hanging onto Nathaniel. "It sounded like a bomb."

"I don't know. Stay close." Nathaniel said as they walked inside the hospital. Inside, nurses and doctors were running throughout the hospital checking on the sick children, seeing if everyone was alright and seeing what actually happened.

"What's going on? It sounded like a bomb went off." One of the Nurses said to a Doctor.

"It seems like a bomb went off in the women's bathroom. The fire department and police on their way here. It seems like everything is fine now, but just to be safe. We better lock down the hospital. No one goes in or out until the authorities show up." The doctor said and walked into one of the rooms.

As Elizabeth and Nathaniel walked further into the hospital they passed the women's bathroom. The door was missing, but also everything else in the bathroom was. The stalls and the floor were mostly gone, so if you took a wrong step you would fall into the basement below.

"This must be what the doctors and nurses were freaking out about," Elizabeth said and peaked in. Just then they heard a pair of stiletto heels coming toward them. They turned around a saw a tall, skinny woman with long blonde hair and bright green eyes. She wore a pair of skinny jeans and a royal blue blouse. Elizabeth looked at the women closely and she looked very familiar.

"I demand to see nurse Charlotte Gordon right now!!" The women yelled at one of the doctors.

"Grandma?" Elizabeth said to herself.

"That's your grandmother?" Nathaniel said.

"Well, a younger version," Elizabeth said and walked over to the women.

"Ma'am, Nurse Charlotte is in the emergency room with a woman who has just given birth. She'll be out in a few minutes." The doctor said.

"I can't wait, I'll go there myself." The women said and quickly walked to the emergency room and Elizabeth and Nathaniel followed closely behind her.

"I thought we needed to get a pen from your dad?" Nathaniel said. "Why are we following your grandma?"

"Nurse Charlotte is my other grandma. My dad's mom. So if we find her, we may be able to find my dad." Elizabeth said.

Elizabeth and Nathaniel continued to follow the women down the hall until they reached the emergency room. She burst open the doors and found Goldilocks, Jack, and Hero sitting down on a hospital bed while Charlotte was getting towels out of a cabinet. As the door was about to close Elizabeth and Nathaniel held it open a little bit so they could see and hear the conversation.

"Charlotte!! Where is my daughter?" The woman said.

"Arianna, calm down," Charlotte said to her.

"Calm down?! I haven't been able to track my daughter's phone for weeks and when I am finally able to, low and behold I find her at this hospital." Arianna said. "I know this has something to do with your son! I'm telling you this now, if I see my daughter and your son together again you will regret it. Your son has turned my daughter into a runaway. He is a bad influence and I will not tolerate it. Now, where is my child, before I call the police."

"Arianna, I am sorry about everything," Charlotte said. "Your daughter is in the multi-purpose room. Let me be clear, my son has nothing to do with this. He is the sweetest and bravest kid ever. If you're worried about your daughter's behavior, don't blame my son."

"Are you saying that this is my fault? Charlotte we may have been friends in the past, but clearly not anymore. Don't call me, don't come to my house, and don't get near my daughters." Arianna said. She walked back over to the door and opened it to find Elizabeth and Nathaniel eavesdropping. "Can I help you?"

"Um, yes. We're looking for Conner Bailey." Elizabeth said. "I'm Elizabeth Black and this is my colleague Nathaniel. We're from the local newspaper and we just want to interview someone about the bathroom situation."

"What bathroom?" Charlotte asked. "What happened?"

"Would you like to see as you lead us to your son?" Elizabeth asked.

"Do I know you?" Arianna asked Elizabeth. "You look very familiar."

"Uh, no. Not yet anyways." Elizabeth said as she whispered that last part.

"Do you mind if we come too?" Jack asked standing up from his chair.

"Yes, we'll take you back to the multi-purpose room," Charlotte said and grabbed the towels and wrapped Hero in them and handed him back to Goldilocks.

The group walked out of the emergency room and to the women's bathroom.

"What happened?!" Arianna asked in horror. "If anything has happened to my daughter Charlotte I will press charges."

"Let's go find out what's happened."

In the multi-purpose room, Conner was sitting down and he was sick to his stomach and Bree and everyone else was surrounding him.

"What do you think happened to Alex?" Bree asked.

"I don't know," Conner said and rubbed his eyes. "But we have to find her."

Just then, Charlotte, Goldilocks, and Hero, Jack, Arianna, Elizabeth, and Nathaniel ran into the room.

"Mom?!" Bree said with her eyes wide.

"Bree Anneliese Campbell," Arianna said and walked over to her daughter and grabbed her arm. "What the hell were you thinking?! Going to Connecticut without our permission? What has gotten into you?"

"Arianna, I'm sorry, but I brought her back and without a scratch on her," Cornelia said.

"And you, I seriously hope you haven't done anything to my daughter either, with your cooky experiments. There's a reason you have been shut out of the family." Arianna said.

"Mom I'm sorry," Bree said. "But this isn't Cornelia's fault, or Conners so don't blame either one of them. It's all me."

"Apology not accepted, and you," Arianna said and pointed to Conner. "If I ever see you with my daughter again,"

"Stop it!" Elizabeth and Charlotte said. Everyone including Charlotte looked at Elizabeth as they didn't suspect someone they didn't know to defend Conner.

"Excuse me?" Arianna said and looked at Elizabeth. "How dare you talk to me like that? Who do you think you are?"

"Someone you'll know in the distant future if you can find it in your heart to not break these two up," Elizabeth said and close to Arianna.

"When you're a parent you'll know what I am doing is the best for my daughter," Arianna said. "So don't judge my parenting. Do you hear me?"

"I am a parent, and it's hard as hell, but I've learned from the best. I had the best parents in the whole wide world, and I know they'll always have my best interests at heart. What your doing is not what's best for your daughter. I've seen what their relationship becomes. My parents were extremely protective of my siblings and me, but they weren't as cruel as you are and threaten good people. Don't judge him just because of what he's done. What you don't know is that all his actions are to protect his family. Don't judge someone before you get to know them." Elizabeth said as she teared up.

At this point, everyone was extremely confused about who this strange woman was, and why she was defending someone who she just met.

"Do I know you?" Bree asked.

"Not yet," Elizabeth said. "Promise me you'll stick with him no matter what?"

Bree looked at Conner and Conners face was beat red with embarrassment. They both nodded at the strange women.

"I hope you think about what I've said," Elizabeth said. Arianna rolled her eyes and focused her attention back on her daughter.

"Young lady, you will not be seeing the light of day for a long time," Arianna said. She grabbed her daughter's arm, but Bree pulled away and hugged Emmerich who was standing next to Cornelia.

"Get home safely," Bree said.

"Thank you, Bree. For everything." Emmerich said and hugged her tightly. She then turned to Cornelia.

"And Cornelia, I hope to see you again."

"Me too," Cornelia said.

"Let's go," Bree said and walked out the door and Arianna followed closely behind.

"Who are you?" Conner asked.

"I can't tell you that, because I don't want to change anything in this time," Elizabeth said. "Just promise me you'll stay close to her."

"I will. So why are you here?" Conner asked.

"Are you really from the Newspaper?" Charlotte asked.

"No, but like I said I can't tell you."

"You're from the fairytale world," Red said. "I notice your friend's uniform. It's from the Corner Kingdom."

"He is, but I'm not. I was born and raised here. This is going to seem like a weird request but I need your pen."

"This is getting really strange," Conner said. "Why do you need my pen?"

"I know this must seem really weird. I'm a stranger and I come in here and talk like I know you. This will all make sense in a couple of years. Actually more like in the distant future, but I simply just need your pen, to save my family."

Conner didn't know who this woman was but something inside him told him that she was trustworthy. She seemed really familiar to him, but he didn't know where she was from. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his pen and handed it to her.

"I don't know who you are, but I feel like I know you. I don't know why, If you need my pen then here. You said you were saving your family, go save them."

"Thank you," Elizabeth said starting to tear up and took the pen from him.

"I have a strange suspicion that you're from the future from the way you talked to Bree's mom. Can you at least tell me what happens to us?"

"I can't, I don't want to change anything. You'll just have to find out for yourself, but you'll see me in a couple of years." Elizabeth said and smiled. "Thank you for this. We should be going."

Elizabeth and Nathaniel then left the multi-purpose room without another word being said.

"That was the weirdest conversation I've ever seen or heard," Bob said. "Who was that?"

"I don't know, but I feel like I'll know in a few years. Now, let's get back to finding Alex."

Elizabeth and Nathaniel walked outside.

"It must be weird to see your mother and father like that," Nathaniel said.

"Yeah, it was. I never knew that my grandma tried to come between them like that." Elizabeth said. "I wondered how she really felt about my parent's relationship. She was always so kind to us and loved us and brought us so many places when we were kids."

"Hey, people change. Maybe she saw how your parents truly loved each other." Nathaniel said. "Now let's go save your family."

Elizabeth put the pen in her bag and took out her third vial of the unicorn hair and the elf's leaf and one of the red roses from Camelot's garden. A portal then appeared the same as last time and the pair walked through and found themselves back in the library. There they found Matthew who was sitting at the table. When he noticed them he stood up from his seat and went to hug his sister.

"Matthew!" Elizabeth said and ran to hug her brother. "Did you get the mask?"

"I did! Did you get the pen and the branch?" Matthew asked. "Who's this?"

"I did and this is Nathaniel. I met him while I was getting the branch. He's agreed to help us. Have the kids come back yet?"

"No, I'm getting worried," Matthew said. "I'm not leaving here until they return."

"What about Carrie?"

"She's gone too. But she came back with the wand because she and Aunt Alex left this note." Matthew said and handed Elizabeth the note.

To Elizabeth and Matthew,

I have returned from the past with the wand of wonderment. However, Aunt Alex and I have decided we may need more help. We have gone to recruit someone that Alex thinks may be helpful. We'll be back soon.

Carrie.

"Where do you think she went?" Elizabeth asked.

"I have no idea, but they better hurry. We don't have much time left."
