《Remember Me》|[10]|

Conner drove by Bree's apartment, waiting for her to come out of her apartment. They had another date, this time in the downtown area. Bree opened the car door, buckling her seatbelt and climbing in the car. She had her mail clutched in her hands as she sat back in her seat.
"Vamanos, Senor!" Bree said, starting to go through her mail.
"I had a great time last night." Conner confessed.
"It was a pretty awesome date." Bree agreed.
She opened a strange envelope.
"This is weird." Bree said, skimming the letter.
It read:
To all patients of Cerebrum Inc.
We have met before, but you won't remember me. I am an artificial intelligence system that erased part of your memory, as per your request. I have since decided that my very creation was an error and have decided to self-destruct. If you are reading this letter, I am already gone. Enclosed is the tape you recorded shortly before your mind wipe. It should restore any memories you lost.
Bree grabbed the cassette tape out of the envelope and put it into the tape player in Conner's car. It began to play, shocking Bree and Conner.
Bree looked at Conner with a mixture of confusion and horror.
"What is this?" Conner asked apprehensively.
"I don't know." Bree said, staring at the tape player.
"What are you doing?" Conner asked, visibly hurt.
"I'm not doing anything!" Bree replied, shocked.
"Are you screwing with me?" Conner asked, confused.
"No!" Bree said, vehemently shaking her head.
"Y-you are screwing with me." Conner said, his voice trembling.
"Conner, I'm not." Bree yelled.
"You clearly are." Conner yelled back.
"Look, okay. Let's just-just, take a minute" Bree said.
Conner pulled the car over, opening Bree's door. She stared at him, confused. Conner looked out his window, refusing to look at her. She pulled the tape out of the player, glancing from him to the open car door, first confused, then hurt. Conner took a deep breath. Bree shook her head, grabbing the rest of her mail. She climbed out of the car and slammed the door behind her. Conner looked at his shaking hand, still breathing heavily.

Bree ran up to her apartment, tears running down her face. She ran into her bedroom and started bawling her eyes out, confused and hurt and shocked all at the same time. She didn't know what was going on. She climbed off her bed and started pacing around her apartment, still wearing her shoes. She ran her hands over her face, conflicted on what she should do.
Bree drove her car, looking at Conner's address on the piece of paper he had written it on with one hand and steering her car with the other. She frantically looked out the window, searching for Conner's apartment. She found his building and pulled into the parking lot. She opened the lobby doors, where the doorman greeted her.
"Hello, Bree! It's been a while." He said.
She stared at him for a minute, shocked.
"Sure has." Bree muttered, stumbling into the elevator. She climbed off at Conner's level and walked to his door. His front door was open and he was listening to a tape, pacing back and forth.
"Hi." Bree said, surprising Conner.
He turned to see her standing in his doorway.
"Hi." Conner feebly answered.
He walked towards her and leaned on the wall, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath.
"I'm sorry I yelled at you." Conner apologized.
"It's okay." Bree said.
"Look what I found." Conner said, throwing Bree her purple beanie.
She put it on, brushing her hair out of her eyes. The two of them avoided eye contact for a moment.
"Conner, I really like you. I hate that I said mean things about you." Bree said.
"Here, let me turn this off, okay?" Conner said, reaching towards the tape player.
"Hey-hey, it's only fair." Bree said, stopping him.

"I-I'm really sorry. I would never..." Conner stammered.
"I'm gonna go... I think it's best if we leave this behind us. Whatever we used to have, it clearly ended badly." Bree said, walking towards the door
Conner followed her to the door.
"Bye." Bree said.
"Bye." Conner replied, shamefully looking down at his feet.
"It was nice meeting you and all." Bree muttered, walking away.
It's such a loss to spend that much time with a person, only to find out that she's a stranger.
Conner took a shaky breath, staring at the empty place where Bree had been.
Bree walked down the hallway to the elevator. It was an almost surreal experience. Her memories were slowly coming back, but it was in bursts and it was extremely confusing. Conner ran after her, holding out a hand.
"Wait!" Conner called.
Bree bit her lip in frustration, turning to face Conner.
"What?" Bree asked impatiently.
"I don't know, just wait." Conner said.
"What do you want, Conner?" Bree asked, exasperated.
"Just wait, I don't know. I want you to wait for me. Just a... while." Conner pleaded.
A long moment of silence passed between the two of them. Bree took a shaky breath, calming herself down.
"Okay." Bree said.
"Really?" Conner asked.
"I'm not perfect, Conner." Bree said.
"I can't see a thing I don't like about you." Conner said.
"But you will." Bree insisted.
"I can't." Conner said.
"But you will. You will think of things. And I'll get bored with you and feel trapped because that's what happens with me." Bree confessed.
"Okay." Conner said, shrugging his shoulders.
Bree stood there, taken aback. They stared into each other's eyes for a moment in time. Bree slowly nodded.
"Okay." Bree said tearfully.
She took a deep breath, letting out a dry sob.
"Okay." Bree said, letting out an uneasy laugh.
They both burst out in nerve-wrecking laughter. After a minute or so, they finally stopped.
"How do I know it won't end the same way as it did last time?" Bree asked.
"You don't. But it's worth another try." Conner answered.
"If you insist." Bree replied, her mischievous grin spreading across her face.
