《The Millionaires Pursuit》Chapter 21

Pulling away from their heated kiss, Erik takes a brief moment to simply gaze at Rosaline. Although she's reluctant to meet his eyes, likely because she feels rather shy after sharing such a passionate kiss, Erik can't help but grin at her in that boyish kind of way.

"Stop." He hears her say quietly against his chest. Despite her words, Rosaline continues to cling to Erik which, in Erik's mind helps confirm the notion that she really doesn't want him to stop.

"Stop what exactly?" He teases her, while leaning down to brush his lips against her pulse point. Erik listens as Rosaline inhales a sharp breath, before trying to desperately put some distance between them.

"Kissing me." She softly whispers, in a voice that continues to sound as if she is having a hard time believing in what she is saying.

"Right now sweetheart, I can't think of anything I want to do more." Erik tells her in a heated voice.

It's quiet for a moment between them, as Erik persists in placing open mouthed kisses along Rosaline's neck. Although he's almost positive she's enjoying it, judging by the pleasurable noises that are escaping her mouth, he also doesn't want to appear to be rushing or pushing her any further than she's ready to take. Reluctantly, Erik pulls himself away from Rosaline only to capture the saddened expression on her face.

"Rose, you alright?" He asks, whilst searching her face for any obvious signs or indications.

"I'm fine, it's just..." She trails off in an uncertain tone.

"Baby, tell me what is it?" He questions, while capturing her cheeks in his hands.

In doing so, Erik finds himself detecting small hints of distress in her eyes. It unnerves him to know he's potentially caused this and so immediately detaches himself from Rosaline, in the hopes of not making her feel any more uncomfortable.

"It's not you, if that's what you're thinking." She simply admits.

"Isn't it? Sweetheart, I hope you know that you just need to say the word and I'll stop. I don't want you to feel forced into any part of what we do." Erik tries to explain.

Rosaline finally meets Erik's eyes. Despite his sincere words, she finds it difficult in translating her own feelings towards him. Furthermore, she doesn't quite feel ready yet to tell him of some of the doubts and uncertainties that are swimming around in her head. Although she knows these feelings of hers are in no way associated to Erik directly, she fears that if she tells him he'll either blame himself or not view her the same way as he did before.

"I know that and I thank you again for being so understanding when it comes to me. But, I'm sorry I'm just not ready yet to tell you everything there is to know about me." She regrettably answers, while casting her head down.

Careful not to make her feel ashamed by her troubled confession, Erik instead wraps his arms around Rosaline in a careful and affectionate embrace. The last thing Erik wants is for Rosaline to feel guilty about how she feels. Although it wasn't on his list of things that Erik wanted to hear, he was still grateful for the fact that Rosaline had enough trust in him to admit her true feelings in the first place.

"Rose, you have nothing to be sorry about, do you understand me? Nothing at all. I told you before, I'm grateful to be in your presence alone. It's enough for me, you're enough." He tells her in a way where he hopes she can see the honesty in his eyes.

Rosaline must have been pleased with how Erik responsed, because the next

thing he knew she squeezed her small arms around his larger frame and pressed what must have been the tiniest of kisses against his throat, whispering pleas of thanks.

Only after Erik and Rosaline had taken a few minutes longer to simply bask in the comfort of each other, did they separate themselves so they could finally move on and enjoy the dinner Erik had cooked them. Almost as soon as their plates hit the table, Rosaline had nothing but kind words and proud comments to make.

"I didn't know you could cook? This looks amazing Erik."

"And tastes absolutely delicious." She added, after a few mouthfuls.

Having enjoyed their dinner and laughed together along to too many funny stories, Erik and Rosaline found themselves seated against a plush couch in the den. The room itself was styled to resemble that of a contemporary take on a retro, seventies vibe that Rosaline quite liked the look of. Erik was in the middle of explaining his inspiration for the room when he noticed Rosaline's expression gradually change to one he couldn't quite decipher.

"What is it?" Erik asked after a moment of silence.

He watched as her lips quirked up the slightest bit and soon he joined in on her unknown laughter as she hid her face against the leather of his couch.

"Tell me!" He cheekily pleaded, whilst moving to grasp her hips in his hands.

The second Erik touched her, Rosaline let out a high pitched squeal, followed by a loud laugh. She quickly calmed herself, but not before shooting Erik a serious look of warning.

"Don't even think about it." She said while glaring at him in a not so frightening way.

"Think about what exactly?" Erik asked nonchalantly, as he glided his body along the couch so that it was nice and close to Rosaline's.

Noticing his sudden nearness, Rosaline couldn't help but feel intimidated and a little afraid of what was to come.

"Erik!" She pleaded, but it was already too late because Erik soon found himself tickling Rosaline until her body shook with laughter.

The tickling and laughter ended sometime later, but Rosaline made sure to smack Erik on his chest as a way of punishing him for his childish actions. Although she loved their little play fighting, she couldn't quite get over the pain of being tickled.

"I can't believe you did that." She humourlessly stated, while leaning into Erik's side as the two of them found a comfortable position of the couch.

"Are you really that surprised though?" He asked her with a chuckle.

"I guess not." She laughed, before meeting Erik's eyes.

Erik smiled at Rosaline and felt his smile grow even widen when she returned it. He had his arm wrapped behind her on the couch and let his other hand softy stroke her loose dark waves. Almost every time Erik gazed at Rosaline from a close distance, he was more so stunned by her beauty than the last. Her piercing evergreen eyes were so easy to get lost in, that Erik was surprised he was still able to hold a conversation with her at times. No matter how many times Erik sat down and thought about it, he simply couldn't form a conclusion as to how or why he met Rosaline. All he did know was that it was imperative that their time together was cherished.

"So, did you want to tell me what that look was all about before?" Erik questioned her with a curious look.

A small and shy smile took over Rosaline's face, just as she was finally able to answer him.

"I guess I was just thinking about how happy I am."

"With you." She whispered a moment later, before leaning in to give Erik a slow kiss.

The night ended in a very similar way, with Erik planting one final kiss to Rosaline's lips when he dropped her off at home that evening, almost an hour later.

"See you soon?" She asked, while pausing to open the passenger door.

"Without a doubt. Sweet dreams Rose." Erik replied, as he watched Rosaline step out into the moonlit night and enter in through the front door of her family home.
