《The Millionaires Pursuit》Chapter 15

Erik had organised a visit to the local contemporary art gallery, located on the outskirts of Dalmerlington. He had planned to pick up Rosaline just after noon, but as per her request, she insisted on meeting him there instead. Erik sincerely hoped that after their second date, she would feel more comfortable in his presence and perhaps in even dropping her guard down when around him. He knew that he was partly responsible for her lack of confidence in him, given the fact that he was not currently letting her in on his past, but nevertheless, Erik was optimistic that after today she might begin to feel differently. To secure his chances of this happening, Erik made more than one plan to surprise Rosaline today. He certainly hoped she was the type of woman who enjoyed surprises, otherwise he wasn't quite sure how she would react to one particular surprise he had in mind. In his opinion, it wasn't anything too spectacular, but the intended effect was to make Rosaline smile, which Erik certainly wished to achieve by the end of their date.
Stepping outside of his Audi, Erik scans to small parking lot for Rosaline. He's not sure what car she drives, but when he spots a gorgeous brunette stepping out of a white Mini Cooper from across the lot, he can't help but admire how well the compact car suits her. Making his way toward her, Erik smiles at the fact that she has spotted him too. She nervously stands by her car, clutching her keys in one hand and manoeuvring the other to hold onto her shoulder bag. She returns Erik's smile as he nears closer and disposes of her keys in her bag, just as Erik comes to stand within a short distance away from her.
"Good afternoon Rosaline, you look lovely." Greets Erik, while moving to place a delicate kiss to her cheekbone.

Erik pulls away from Rosaline too soon for his own likes, but in doing so takes the time to appreciate how stunning she looks in such a simple outfit. Rosaline wears another free flowing, summery dress but this time instead of yellow, it's lilac with a white trim that goes around the collar. Erik can't help but run his eyes over Rosaline's feminine clavicles and bare shoulders. She looks so youthful yet so sweet and pure and Erik can't help but contemplate what it will take of him to steal a real kiss from her today.
"Thank you, it's nice to see you again." Rosaline says, stealing Erik away from his daydream.
"I wasn't sure if you had any interest in art, but I thought it would be nice to do something different together besides sitting down to talk." Admits Erik, while leading Rosaline in through the gallery entry.
"It's a brilliant idea. I've actually always admired anyone who has a creative edge to them, I wish I were more like that."
"I've seen your classroom and it's very creative Rosaline, trust me." Erik tells her, making sure he's quick enough to defend the truth of the creativity he's seen in her work.
Rosaline merely blushes at his compliment and follows him into the first room, which exhibits an installation of some sort. Erik and Rosaline silently observe the diverse and unique pieces that contribute to the artwork around them. Moving within the gallery, Erik throws in a comment every now and again to keep the conversation engaged, but for the most part, both he and Rosaline appear to be satisfied in letting the artwork speak for itself.
"What's been your favourite artwork so far?" Erik asks Rosaline, once they've found themselves a secluded sofa to sit on.

"Probably the one with the ballerina."
"Why that one?"
"I think the artist beautifully captured the essence of a what true ballerina looks like when performing. She looks graceful and elegant and without a doubt is pure in almost every way."
Whilst she is speaking, Erik stares at Rosaline in awe. He finds it almost ironic how she described the ballerina using many of the same qualities he would use to characterise her. Rosaline notices Erik gazing at her for a short while after she's finished speaking and suddenly becomes incredibly shy. It doesn't help that they're sitting mere inches away from each away, as the desire to lean in towards one another becomes unbearable on Erik's part. Just before he's about to make any sudden movements however, he remembers one of the two surprises he has in store for Rosaline.
"Will you come with me?" Erik asks with an outstretched hand.
Grasping her soft hand in his, Erik guides Rosaline towards the far back of the gallery where a private room awaits for them which contains a dining table set for two. Ushering her into the room first, Erik smiles at Rosaline in seeing the appreciation in her eyes. She releases a light laugh at the surprise of the neatly presented lunch in front of them, before turning to face Erik himself.
"Do art galleries even permit private rooms with lunch?" She questions him with an endearing voice.
"I wanted to make it happen, so I did." Erik nonchalantly replies with a shy smile.
"This is wonderful, thank you." She gratefully smiles.
Taking a seat opposite her, Erik and Rosaline each enjoy a light lunch of pan fried ocean trout on a bed of mushy peas. Together, they learn more about each other and take the time to discuss more of the artworks they've seen today. Curious to see her reaction to his other surprise however, Erik invites Rosaline to join him for a surprise located within the galley, just as they've both cleaned their plates.
"But you've already surprised me with lunch?" She points out like the humble person she is.
"That was just food sweetheart, I hope you'll enjoy this next surprise a little more." Erik tells her, while smirking at the blush that has risen to her cheeks as a result of the term of endearment he's used.

Eight Years Ago"Mom.." I say with a small smile on my face.My sister had passed her first music lesson and we're all so proud of her."What is it Layla!? can't you see I'm busy?!" She snaps."Oh.." I say, my smile faltering slightly, as I watch mom cuddle Heidi and give her lots of sweets as reward."C-can I have a sweetie too?" I ask.Mom laughs coldly. "Why should you? You've never achieved anything, have you?! Lazy little brat." Heidi giggles and I look at her to see a smirk on her face, making my face fall. I watch mom whisper things to Heidi, making her giggle even more. The door swings open, and my dad walks in.I smile again, running to him and hug his knees but he just brushes me off with an annoyed expression, walking towards my mom hugging her and ruffling Heidi's hair. What's going on?"Dad..ruffle my hair too?" I ask hesitantly. All three of them burst out laughing and I sink down in embarassment."Layla, we always knew you weren't the brightest kid here." He laughs "I just knew you'd be a screw up, right Luise?" He says and she nods."And I was right. You're a failure" He grabs my maths sheet, crumples it up and throws it at me. "You spend way too much time with your 'friends' never on your education, you ungrateful little brat. We should've got rid of you as soon as we found out you were on the way." He spits out spitefully as my mum nods, still smirking."Dad I'll do better, I promise!"I sob, tears streaming down my face, but he shakes his head, smirking. I look at my sister and walk towards her giving her a watery smile."H-Heidi... we're still friends right?" I ask, desperately. Her smirk slowly vanishes. she leans forward and I thought she'd hug me, but instead she pulls my hair and pushes me onto the floor making me scream. She laughs, my parents joining her."Stupid" she hisses, kicking me, before going to my parents, all of them walking out, leaving me on the floor, crying my eyes out. What have I done to deserve this?
