《The Millionaires Pursuit》Chapter 5

It was Saturday night and Erik was in between finishing off his dinner and emailing Albert about helping organise his visit to Panorama Elementary. Although it had only been a few days since his last visit, he was feeling rather intrigued about returning and seeing Rosaline. His only hope was that when he did return, Rosaline would perhaps open up a little more to him and allow him to understand just a smidgen of how she might feel about him. Distracted by his sudden change in thought, Erik didn't hear the doorbell ring until the person on the other side of it decided to start pressing the button insistently. Jumping out of his seat, Erik wasn't the least bit prepared when he answered the door and saw one of his old flames standing there.

"Hello handsome." She purred before inviting herself in.

"Bianca?"

Erik was gobsmacked to the say least. He hadn't seen Bianca for the past five years, and the last time he did see her they didn't exactly leave on the best of terms. Simply put, Bianca Vettel was one hot troublemaker, whom Erik couldn't seem to resist at one point in his life. They enjoyed all sorts of adventure, excitement and naughty fun together but eventually Erik came to realise that all Bianca really lusted after was his money and fame. After her true intentions were revealed, Erik promised himself to never make the same mistakes again, which was why he now settled for one night wonders with women instead of trying to build and sustain compatible relationships with them.

"Care to explain what you're doing here?" Erik demanded, whilst following her into the dining room.

"I was in the neighbourhood."

"You can cut the bullshit Bianca. Is it money you want?"

"You haven't seen me in over five years and this is the welcome I get? Come on Erik, I think I deserve a little more kindness than that." She says with a disbelieving smile while taking a seat at the table.

Erik, whom is feeling all sorts of angst at the moment continues to stand and glare at Bianca while she makes herself too comfortable in his home.

"When you consider the fact that you only stayed with me as long as you did because I paid for everything you ever wanted and helped you climb the social ladder, I think it was pretty obvious as to why I no longer wanted anything to do with you."

"Wanted?" She cheekily asks Erik, in reference to his use of the past tense.

"Want. I don't want you or anything to do with you."

"I don't believe you. You mean to tell me you didn't enjoy my company, all the fun we had including the sex. If you even try to deny that then I'll know for certain that you're not the same old Erik I once knew."

Erik can hardly believe he's still having this conversation, but before he can think better of it, he runs his hand through his hair and begins to slowly nod.

"You're right, I can't deny the fact that we had mind blowing chemistry together, but that was a long time ago Bianca, you and I are hardly the same people." Erik explains in a lowered voice.

"It could be like that again?" Bianca gently admits while moving to stand a foot away from Erik.

Suddenly, Erik discovers the truth behind Bianca's return.

"Wait a minute, don't tell me you've actually come back here because you think there is a chance at reconciliation and fixing what went wrong with us? Bianca that's never going to happen."

"And why can't it?" She pleads, using those puppy dog eyes of hers that Erik once so foolishly use to cave for.

"Because our relationship was built on a lie, you used me and it probably would have continued that way had I not found out."

"Erik, you're being irrational right now. Besides, I've changed."

Erik can't suppress the laugh that escapes him upon hearing her tell him that she's changed. How stupid does she honestly think he is? He may have felt that exact way about himself five or so years ago when he first found out the truth about her, but since then, Erik has had nothing but time to refocus on himself and his work.

"Bianca please, you're embarrassing yourself. You need to leave." Erik informs her, while stepping away from her reach.

For a long minute, there is nothing but silence between Erik and Bianca, but all too soon that noise is drowned out by the frank accusation made by Bianca.

"Who is she?"

"Excuse me?" Erik retorts, clearly at a loss.

"This woman who you've moved on with then, who is she?"

Yet again, Erik can't help but stare at Bianca in utter bewilderment and at the person she has inevitably become. He's not only disappointed to have been involved with her for as long as he did, but even questions the state of her own sanity, given the fact that she easily has stormed into his home tonight and demanded that they rekindle a romance they once shared.

"There is no woman Bianca, I haven't trusted anyone enough to be in a relationship with them since you walked out of my life and to be perfectly honest, even if I was seeing someone do you really think you've earned yourself the right to know? Because in case you haven't figured it out by now, the answer is no. I didn't want anything to do with you five years ago when I first found out about your misdemeanours and I certainly want nothing to do with you now. So if you would please leave before I'm forced to call the police." Explains Erik using a strangely calm voice, despite feeling far from it.

Stunned by his own bluntness, Erik turns around and paces to the front door where he opens it widely. Bianca has quietly followed behind Erik and pauses before crossing the threshold, clearly fixated on having one final row with him.

"This won't be the last you've seen or heard from me Erik, I can promise you that." She says in a clipped tone.

Exhausted by the turn of events the evening has taken, Erik merely shakes his head in disagreement before locking his front door after Bianca leaves.
