《The Millionaires Pursuit》Chapter 3

The auditorium at Panorama Elementary was buzzing with parents, friends, school staff and members of the community when Erik stepped inside. There was an aura of comfort and pride in the building and when he bypassed groups of people and noted their optimistic conversations regarding the school's health initiative, he couldn't be more relieved to see that he had in fact invested his time wisely. Erik was directed by Dallas to sit beside him, just in front of the stage and together they chatted amicably until everyone else inside the auditorium took their seats. Within moments, distinguished guests were welcomed and the evenings program officially began.

"I'd now like to ask Mr Erik Silverstein to make his way up onto the stage and to grace us with his knowledge and perspective on the fundraising event that we've been discussing tonight and are all extremely proud to be apart of." Announces the emcee sometime later during the evening, following a round of applause.

Making his way onto the stage, Erik feels at ease and confident in presenting his speech to a room full of people from diverse backgrounds, occupations, values and opinions. Speaking to people about a particular topic of his interest has always been something Erik succeeded in. He had gained most of this experience doing entrepreneurial work and found his love for helping others during the many encounters where he dealt with philanthropic matters. Although most people knew Erik as a successful model, he didn't shy away from engaging with work opportunities that were outside of his domain. As far as Erik was concerned, he had the money and resources and effectively made the time to do more with his life than simply have his photograph taken.

"Finally, I wish to express my gratitude and deepest appreciation to Mr Brighton, the principal here at Panorama Elementary, for allowing me to come and speak about an issue that is dear to me. If there are any further ways that I may be able to contribute to assist such a needy cause, I would be most delighted. Thank you again for your attention this evening and I hope to return someday soon. Goodnight everyone." Concludes Erik, before making his way down the stage steps.

Reclaiming his seat beside Dallas, Erik smiles and accepts his gracious handshake.

"Thank you again Mr Silverstein. I will be more than happy to keep you in check with frequent updates concerning this project." Whispers Mr Brighton.

Erik nods in acknowledgment and silently listens as the final few speakers of the night take to the stage. Only once the rooms erupts into chatter again, does Erik leave his seat with Mr Brighton leading the way.

"I hope you will stay and join my staff and I for some light beverages and canapés." Invites Dallas while gesturing for Erik to enter a smaller room located just outside the auditorium.

"That sounds lovely, thank you." Replies Erik while quickly scanning the room.

Just inside, Erik observes as people have their glasses filled and accept little savoury sandwiches by passing waiters. Erik is offered a glass of spiced cider and thanks the waiter, before averting his eyes and capturing the gaze of none of than Rosaline. Yet again, the sheer sight of her is enough to ignite unfaithful thoughts in his own mind, but instead of acting upon them he instead chooses to analyse her judgement of him from afar. Her tight lipped mouth and wide, alarming eyes are enough to indicate to Erik that perhaps she's just anxious of associating herself with someone of a dominant nature and could therefore still be very much be interested in him. Against his better judgements, Erik continues to hold her gaze whilst moving swiftly through the small crowd to meet her.

"Hello again Rosaline."

"Mr Silverstein."

"I do believe it's only fair of you to call me Erik from now on, seeing as you've bestowed me the pleasure of calling you by your first name." Explains Erik.

He offers Rosaline a wicked smile, following his statement and barely awaits another moment before observing a pink flush that taints her youthful face.

"As you wish, Erik." She politely says.

"How did you enjoy the evening?" He genuinely questions.

"It was wonderful listening to Mr Brighton, among the list of others, who spoke so highly about how Panorama Elementary hope to raise awareness for our community to help save young lives though this innovative health initiative that we've developed. I can honestly say I'm so privileged to be apart of it and I hope it's a real success." Rosaline quietly beams.

"Well I have no doubt that with your expertise on board, the project is sure to be a hit among parents, friends and the extended community."

Although Erik was merely speaking the truth regarding his confidence in Rosaline's work and contribution to this event, he wasn't the least bit surprised to see her blush yet again at his complimentary words.

"I don't mean to overstep Rosaline, but I'd like to give you my business card, should you wish to take me up on Mr Brightons offer he spoke of briefly before. I'll leave the details up to you, but if you decide that I wouldn't be too much of a bother to sit in on one of your classes I'd be very happy to accept." Suggests Erik with a keen smile, whilst reaching inside his pocket to retrieve a card.

Handing the business card over appears to have a greater affect on Rosaline than Erik was expecting. Instead, what was intended to be a friendly request had turned out to unnerve Rosaline, judging by the way she nervously bit her lip and scanned over the piece of cardboard rather apprehensively. As Erik had little to no experience with women who weren't practically falling at his feet, he not only felt slightly embarrassed but felt he needed to justify himself.

"Please don't feel obligated, I just thought I'd offer."

"Thank you. I'll consider it, I'm just not sure when the best day would be for you to attend."

Although in her response Rosaline did not state that she would not invite him to attend one of her classes, Erik believed it was implied that she did not want him even near her given the way she appeared to look uncomfortable at the very prospect of it. Erik was no longer feeling very comfortable himself nor with the reception he was receiving from Rosaline, and so in his haste to leave Panorama Elementary he bid Rosaline a brief farewell and headed for the door. Dialling Harold's number as soon as the cold evening air hit his face, Erik had plenty of time during the long drive home to consider where he went wrong with Rosaline.
