《The Player Broke My Leg》Chapter 16

"You should really keep your friends on a leash," spoke a voice that came up behind me in my ear. I had been at the kitchen sink washing the cups that had been used. The voice startled me, causing the cups covered in soap to slip out of my hand and into the sink. Hot water splashed out of the sink and all over the counters, the floor, and me

"Jesus Christ, Jasper," I yell as I pull the drenched fabric off of my stomach. I didn't hear Jasper come back into the house. "The only person who needs a leash is you."

I grab a rag that was laying on the counter and started to dab at the water. It stung slightly, and it would probably be a little red, but I'll live. I glanced at Jasper, who was getting the mop that was propped against the wall.

"Are you burnt?" He asked casually as pushed the mop across the floor to pick up the water.

I chuckled to myself. "You'd like that wouldn't you?"

Jasper stopped mopping and looked up at me. "No. I wouldn't," he said firmly before looking back down and continued to clean.

I looked at him speechless. Jasper didn't want me to get hurt? That's a first. He was the type of person that would drink all the water instead of using it to put out a person on fire.

"What are you doing?" I asked as I turned to face him.

"It's called cleaning," he says sarcastically.

"Not that," I said as I looked him up and down. "Ever since yesterday, you've been acting weird. What's going on? Is this some new kind of torture you want to try out?"

Jasper remained silent for a moment. I wasn't sure if it was because he was trying to think of something to say or to just be a jerk. Either way, it was annoying.

"Whatever," I say shaking my head as I go back to washing the dishes. "When you're done just go watch TV or something. I don't want to deal with your bullshit today."

"My bullshit?" Jasper acted as if I offended him.

"Yes, your bullshit," I snapped as I reach in and pulled the stopper out of the drain. "One minute you are being an ass, and the next you're trying to act all innocent. What was that about yesterday in my room?"

"What? Am I not allowed to change?" Jasper said bitterly as he put the mop away.

I let out a laugh. "As if you know how. You can't change once you get to a certain point."

Jasper grunted in annoyance, but I didn't care. I grab the hand piece of the crutches and start to walk to the stairs. Getting up the stairs was much easier now, which was good. I could put as much distance between Jasper and I as I could.

Once I was upstairs, I threw my crutches to the side and plopped down on my bed and yelled into my pillow. Jasper aggravated me so much. I just wanted my leg to heal as fast as it could so I wouldn't have to see him for the rest of the summer.

My phone that was laying on my bed dinged. When I went downstairs earlier I forgot to grab it. I reached down to grab it. The screen lit up to show that I had received a couple of texts.

I smiled as I read the last thing he wrote and began to reply back.

Just as I was about to lock my phone and set it aside, it dinged.

I smiled as I remembered our kiss. It was sweet.

.

I roll my eyes as I type.

I blushed as I immediately dropped the phone. My heart fluttered as the thought of Evan kissing me again raced through my head. Did he mean it? Or was it just a joke? Either way my heart can't handle both of those situations.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. The sound of knuckles hitting wood was enough to bring me out of my little day dream. With a groan, I grabbed my crutches and hoisted myself on to my good foot as I made my way to the door. I knew who it was behind the door, but I didn't want to see him. Perhaps it's a ghost or something and not Jasper.

"What?" I asked as I pull the door open to see Jasper standing there with his head against the door frame.

Jasper looked down at me lazily, and it sent shudders down my spine. His dark eyes made my stomach churn every time I look into them.

"Mom wants you to come to dinner tonight," Jasper said blankly as he tore his eyes from me and started to look around my room. "She said she has to talk to you or something."

"Fine," I say as I go to close the door, but Jasper placed his foot in between the door and the wall. No matter how hard I pushed it, I couldn't get him to budge. "Move."

Jasper pushed his way into my room and plopped down on my bed as if he owned it. My blood began to boil as if laying in my bed was normal for him. As if Jasper could sense my rage, he looked up and smiled at me.

"Wanna cuddle?" he asked with a smirk playing his lips. "You can be the little spoon."

"Get the fuck out of my room," I say with clenched teeth as I walk over to my bed.

"But your bed is comfy," he said, kicking his shoes off. "Come on, I promise I won't bite," Jasper said with a wink as he patted the space next to him. "Much."

"Your a pig," I sigh as I try to find a way to get him out of my bed. Possibly out of my life.

"Aw, don't be like that. I know you love me."

"You're sick," I say as I grab my phone that I left on my dresser. I had gotten another text from Evan, which caused me to smile.

"What, is that Bello on the phone?" Jasper asked as he tried to snatch the phone out of my hand, but I pulled back just in time. His fingers brushed against the cast.

"It's none of you're business," I say as I unlock my phone to see what Evan wrote.

I roll my eyes and begin to type back to him.

I look over and see Jasper is still laying in my bed with his eyes glued to me.

Evan didn't respond back like he normally did. I stood there with the minutes ticking by as I waited for him to reply back. He couldn't possibly mean that he was driving all the way up here.

Right?

The sound of a car pulling into the driveway brought me back to reality. I glance out the window to see Evan marching up the front stairs with a determined look on his face.

"You're in trouble," I said with a smile as I looked over at Jasper, who had no idea what was going on. The sound of the front door opening and closing was enough to peak Jasper's interest.

"Is someone breaking in?" Jasper asks as he pushes himself up into a sitting position.

Suddenly, Evan walked into the room with a fire in his eyes. He first look at me, his eyes softening, then they hardened as he saw Jasper sprawled out on my bed.

Evan rushed to the bed and grabbed Jasper by the collar of his of his shirt. Jasper didn't have time to react before Jasper yanked him out of the bed.

"What the hell?" Jasper shouted as he shoved Evan off of him.

Evan stumbled back but caught himself. The look in his eyes concerned me though. Jasper and Evan were about the same height, but there bodies were different. Jasper was basically all muscle since he was active and played lacrosse, and Evan, well I don't know if he does anything. I didn't want a fight to break out in the middle of my bedroom.

"What's your problem?" Evan snapped as he redirected Jasper's question.

"My problem?" Jasper asked with a chuckle as he pointed to himself. "Shouldn't you be delivering spaghetti or something?"

"You're insulting me because I have a job? Wow, you're gonna get far," Evan said as he stepped protectively in front of me.

"What are you even doing here," Jasper questioned as he looked Evan up and down. He was sizing him up.

"It's called helping," Evan smirked as he glanced behind him. His eyes made contact with mine and winked, somehow I felt at ease. Like everything would be alright. "Hattie wanted you out of her room. Now I know she can easily take you while on one leg, but I thought she might need back up."

Jasper looked pissed. His lips were pressed into a thin line as his nostrils flared in anger. I didn't know what he was thinking. At this moment, Jasper was a complete wild card.

"Just go, Jasper," I say softly as I peer out over Evans shoulders.

Jasper's eyes snapped up to mine. At first, his eyes were cold and dark. That's how they usually were when he was looking at her. But as soon as he met my eyes, they instantly softened. Jasper ran a hand through his hair as he looked up at the door. He didn't make eye contact to either Evan or me.

"I'll be at the grocery store. You're out of milk," he says as he walks through the door without looking back. The sound of Jasper walking down the stairs and out the front door was almost deafening. The sound of his footsteps echoed off the wall.

Once Jasper was gone, Evan turned around to face me. "Are you okay?"

I nod as I glanced out the window. Jasper was walking across the yard to his car, but as if he could sense someone watching, he turned around and looked straight at me. His expression was blank, and I couldn't tell what he was thinking. Perhaps he was plotting my death. Suddenly, he tore his eyes away from mine as he quickly got into his car and drove away.

"I didn't actually think you would come here," I say as I turn my attention back to Evan.

Evan shrugged. "I was done for today anyway," he said as he started to look around the room. "You know, this is the first time I've been in a girls room."

"Really?" I asked in confusion. "You've never snuck into Lizzie's room?"

"Nope. Her parents didn't let me on the second floor of the house," he said as he eyed a couple of pictures I had on the mirror of the dresser. "Is this you?" He asked as he pointed to a picture.

I stepped closer to see which one get was pointing to. In the top corner of the mirror, there was a picture of me at my seventh birthday party. My party was at a bowling party that year. I was sitting at the head of a table with a big smile on my face and my blond hair was pulled into two pigtails on the sides of my head. I had been missing one of my front teeth back then. If memory serves, I've lost it when I fell on the playground days before.

There were other kids in the photo as well. It was a year or two before Jasper showed up and a still had all my friends. I couldn't remember the names of most of them seeing as how in just a few short years they would turn on me. It seemed pointless to remember the names of people who hate you.

'Yep, that's me," I say as I look away. It was so much simpler back then.

"I like your hair," he says as he continues to look around. "Are these your siblings?"

I smile as I look up at another photo. It was taken a around at Halloween last year. For the past two years, I was the one that took them trick or treating. That night was always the best one of the year for me. Both Justin and Stacy wanted me to take them and not their parents, which was nice. It's always best hanging out with them when our father wasn't around.

"Yeah," I said. "Justin's the skeleton and Candice is the doctor."

"You look like you are having fun," Evan pointed out as he glanced back at me.

"I did. It was a good night," I say to him. "So, what do you want to do?"
