《The Player Broke My Leg》Chapter 15

The sound of my phone ringing woke me up out of a deep sleep. I rolled on to my side and saw it was a little after ten o'clock. Groaning, I reached over to grab my phone to see who was calling me.

It was my dad. I looked at my phone in confusion as I declined the call. After I place the phone down on the nightstand, I rolled back over and closed my eyes. Suddenly, the phone started to ring again.

I screamed into my pillow before getting my phone and rejecting the call once more. Just as I was about to set it back down, it rang again.

"What?" I snapped into the phone the second I answered it. I swear if he's calling to try to get me to go on that trip I will beat him with my crutches.

"Sissy?" asked a confused child on the other end.

"Justin? Is that you?" I ask as I sit up in bed.

"Yeah," he said proudly.

"Hey buddy," I say with a smile. "What's up?"

"I just really missed you," he says sadly.

"I've missed you too," I said to him. "How's you're summer going? Are you playing a lot with your friends?"

"Yeah. I'm playing with Sam. He's going to come over later to play some video games with me," Justin says into the phone. I smile, Sam was the little boy who lived across the street from them. He and Justin were practically joined at the hip since they spent so much time together. I've only met him once, but he seems like a good kid.

"What about your sister? Where is she?" I asked as I brought up Candice. Candice was a splitting image of me when I was younger. Even though we were only half siblings, she and I both had blond hair as well as she same shade of green eyes that we inherited from our grandmother.

"She's out in the garden with mom and dad planting flowers," he tells me.

"Ah, so you just stole Franks phone and called me, huh?" I question him as I swing my good leg off the bed. "Someones being naughty."

"It's not like he was using it."

"True," I agree while shrugging. "So, what else is going on?"

"Well, um..," Justin said but he stopped himself, as if he didn't know whether or not to bring something up.

"Justin, you can tell me anything. I'm your big sister right?"

"Well, I just wanted to know if you changed your mind about going to the lake?" he asked, but I heard the sadness in his voice. I could feel my heart break slightly. "I know you and dad don't get along, but I really want to see you."

"Justin," I say softly since I didn't want to upset him further. "I want to see you too, but I can't go to the lake. I just don't think it would be a good idea for me to be near dad."

"What did dad do to make you hate him so much?" he asked me, causing me to sigh. The kids didn't know that their mom was the 'other' woman that my dad cheated on with. Frank and Tessa wanted to make my mom look like the bad person, but in all reality, all three adults sucked.

"You'll find out when you're older," I tell him, but before he could complain I spoke again. "How about this. I'll take you and Candice out bowling one day? Just us siblings. We can get pizza."

"Deal," Justin says quickly, causing me to laugh. I could hear the sound of the door opening in the background of the phone and I could hear mumbling. "They're back."

"Okay, I guess this is it for now," I tell Justin with a small laugh. "I love you, buddy."

"I love you too, sis," he says, but I can still tell that he's sad.

"I'll talk to you later, alright," I say to him to cheer him up.

"Really?" he asked, suddenly perked up.

"Have I ever let you down?"

"No," he says, but I can hear the smile on his face.

"And I don't plan on doing that anytime soon,"

"Okay," Justin says happily. "Bye."

"Bye," I say as I hang up the phone. The phone slides down on to my bed as I flop back down. Justin was a good kid. Smart too. Even though he's only in the first grade he's already a lot smarter than I was.

With a groan, I sit myself up and get to my feet before I start walking to the stairs. I didn't bother changing out of my pajamas. It wasn't like I was trying to impress anyone. As I get halfway down the stairs the door bell rings.

It was probably Jasper since he's the only one that shows up to my house. I really didn't want to deal with him today though. Maybe I'll just send him away to do errands for me or something so I won't have to see his face. It was weird though. Jasper normally just walks in.

I opened the door and gasped at who was standing there. It wasn't Jasper, and it wasn't even Evan. Five different sets of eyes were focused on me.

"What are you guys doing here?" I asked as I looked at all the people I sat with at lunch every single day.

"What? I said we would talk today," Spencer says. "Can we come in?"

"When you said talk I thought you meant on the phone," I say sarcastically as I step aside to let them in.

"At least we brought doughnuts," Grace said as she walked in carrying a thin box and places them down on the table in the hall.

"Grace? I thought you were going to see your grandma," I say as I close the door behind them.

"I go next Tuesday," she says as her eyes glanced down at my leg. "Yikes."

"Tell me about it," I said, rolling my eyes. "Do you guys want to sit down?"

"In a minute," Theo says as he lifts a small tool box to his chest. "Where's your room?"

"Um, up the stairs, first door on the left," I say in confusion as Theo starts to walk up the stairs. "What's he doing?"

"He's putting a lock on your window," Darren says as he opens the box and takes a bite out of a doughnut. "Got any milk?" He asked with his mouth full.

"In the kitchen," I say as I point down the hall.

"Boys are such pigs," Raven sighed as she shook her head in distaste.

"You know, you're words hurt," Spencer said mockingly as he placed a hand over his heart.

"Deal with it," Raven smirked before walking into the living room. I couldn't help but chuckle as I followed her. "So spill. How did this happen?"

I plopped down on the couch and sighed. Darren was walking into the room with a stack of glasses and a half gallon of milk that I hoped wasn't expired. From upstairs, I could hear the sound of a power drill.

"Jasper caused me to fall out a window. That's basically all it," I shrugged.

The sound of footsteps coming down the stairs caused me to look up. Theo had just stepped off the stairs and when he walked back in he grabbed the box and placed it on the table.

"Your window is fixed," Theo says as he takes the seat next to me.

"Thanks Theo," I smile as I reach over and take a doughnut out of the box. "So, what's going on with everyone?"

"Don't try to change the subject," Grace says as she leans forward in her chair. "What did he do?"

I sigh. "He stole something of mine, I tried to get it back. It really didn't go as planned. And how did you guys know where I live?"

"There's this thing called Google," Theo says with a smirk.

I roll my eyes as I take a bite of my doughnut. "So what's new with everyone?"

"Oh you know," Spencer said as he finished off his doughnut. "We're just waiting until Jasper shows up so we can rearrange his face." The fact that Spencer said that calmly was extremely terrifying, but I couldn't wait.

"Well if you plan on murdering him, let me know so I can pull out the plastic wrap. Blood is a bitch to get out of the floor," I say sarcastically.

It was like we were back at our lunch table. We were all laughing and joking around. It was nice.

Just as Raven finished talking about that she would be leaving later that day to head to Arizona for the first concert on her list, the door suddenly opened up. Six pairs of eyes immediately went to the person who just walked in unannounced.

"Hey," Jasper said without looking up to see who was in the house with Hattie. "My mom chewed me out last night since I was home before I was supposed to be, so thanks for that."

"Um," I started to say as I looked around the room. Everyone had fire in there eyes when they saw Jasper. Spencer, Darren, and Theo were instantly on their feet and started to make their way to Jasper.

"Hey," Theo said as he pushed Jasper from behind, causing him to stumble forward. Jasper was caught off guard, but he managed to stay on his feet.

"What the hell?" Jasper asked as he regained his composure. His eyes darted back and forth between the triplets, to Raven and Grace, then to Hattie. "Why are they here?"

"I think you already know why," Spencer said as he stepped closer to Jasper. Spencer had about a five inch advantage over Jasper, and that was one of the things that scared most people.

But Jasper wasn't like most people. He thrived off the pain of others. Instead, he stood his ground as he maintained eye contact with Spencer, who was just mere inches from him.

"You better back up if you know what's good for you," Jasper threatened.

Spencer snickered at Jasper as if tough guy act was funny. Before anyone could react, Spencer shoved Jasper. The push caused Jasper to stumble a few inches back, but he instantly regained his composure.

I started to get worried. Not because of the fact that there might be a brawl in the living room, but because scrubbing blood out of hard floor's was not on my agenda for today.

"If you guys are going to fight, at least do it outside," I whined as I motioned to the back door.

"That's fine with me," Theo said while cracking his knuckles. "I say that we break both of his legs."

"Good idea," Darren said as they all surrounded Jasper, who was still calm. "I'm pretty sure I still have a crowbar in the trunk."

The mention of a crowbar must have triggered something inside of Jasper. Suddenly he noticed the three boys around him. Jasper must have now realized what he had just walked into.

"I'll just come back later," Jasper says over Spencers shoulder to me. I give him a nod that only Raven and Grace saw, and Jasper made his way to the door. However, Theo grabbed him by the back of the shirt to stop him.

"It's okay, Theo," I tell him. Theo looks over at me in surprise since I was letting him get away from a well deserved beating. "You can get him later. Deal?"

Theo nodded as he released Jasper, who ran as fast as he could out of the house. I watched out the front window to see Jasper scurrying across the lawn. Even he knew when to run from a fight.

"You shouldn't have let him get away," Grace said as she placed a hand on my arm.

"I kinda had to," I sigh. "Besides, I need him not to be injured. This house isn't going to clean itself."
