《Child of Legend - A Shadow and Bone Fanfic》Chapter 33

Days turned into weeks aboard the ship, guards came and went from shift to shift. I refused to see my mother after our last meeting, not because I was angry at her but because I just didn't really know what to say, I also had started to feel a bit guilty aswell, I mean who was I to presume she was always treated fairly?
All in all Sturmhond and his crew were more respectful than I thought, the guards would mostly ignore me but a select few would make light conversation but also leave me alone when I didn't want to talk. Sturmhond himself was kind enough, he didn't pressure me to meet my mother and didn't press when I said no, the only thing he was insistent on was the fact that I never ate, after a few light hearted threats and my slowly growing appetite I started to eat all the meals they gave me, well aware of the fact that they could easily drug me, but that would be lazy, I mean they had heartrenders.
I had even convinced Toyla to let me summon every once in a while when he was on watch to get my energy back, it took a while but I had reassured him that even if I did try to attack him, he was a heartrender, he could easily knock me out or just shoot me, cautiously he agreed, we pushed some boxes out of the way to make some space and it became our little mini training area.
One time when I had been bustling with energy I had the bright idea of challenging him to a hand to hand fight, no abilities, safe to say it was.... interesting. Now I'm not going to lie and say I won, I didn't, I mean the man is HUGE. But I did put up a good fight, my size helped, while I was quick and light on my feet his movements were slower but had more impact.

During this little friendly fight one of us accidentally knocked over something causing a loud bang to sound throughout the ship, realisation hit us both as we heard someone running down the hallway towards us, I felt my throat constrict as I clawed for air.
Tamar ran in, an axe in one hand and the other in a fist. I knew it probably wouldn't help my cause but with what little strength I could muster I sent a small beam of light across her eyes, temporarily blinding her, she lost focus and I was once again able to breathe properly.
Once I got my breath back I hurried over to her, gently I placed a hand on her back, "Close your eyes," I prompted, in reality I had no idea what I was doing, it was the first thing that came to mind, "You're going to see a lot of black," I told her, "Just try not to panic."
Hesitantly, she nodded, I summoned a small ball of shadows in my hand and cast it over her eyes, one, two, three times. After the third time I pulled them back, she blinked her eyes open, "Please work," I whispered under my breath as I stepped back.
Tamar rubbed her eyes and slowly blinked then open again, "You're one lucky kid," she said after a while.
I released the breath that I didn't know I was holding, thank the Saints that had worked.
"Now," she turned to Toyla, "You let her out?!?" She accused, "What were you two even doing?"
For his size, right now Toyla looked like a scared, lost, little puppy that's been ganged up on by street mutts.
He started to say something but I decided to spare him the embarrassment, "I needed to summon, you're Grisha you know what it does to us if we don't use our gift for a while, he was just helping me get my strength back."

Tamar turned to me, "As much fun as you are kid, could you please get back in, we'll be docking in a day or two," I nodded and held out my arms as she lifted my cuffs, I saw Toyla mouth a silent 'thank you' as the cell door closed and they both left, an otkazat'sya crew member taking their place.
I didn't know the name of the guard but I recognised him, when we were hunting the sea whip Genya had pointed him out to me saying that he wasn't particularly fond of Grisha. He sneered at me as I slumped down against the wall but fell asleep within minutes, unfortunately he snored, keeping me awake. Out of the corner of my eye, by the shadowed corner I saw a silhouette flicker in and out of focus, it could only be one person, well, at least I thought it could only be one.
Eventually the flickering stopped and the silhouette disappeared, I smirked to herself, he was struggling, he couldn't come to me like I had him, it brought a slight cocky smirk to my lips, I'd never let him forget this.
Curiosity overcame me and I decided to try and appear to him, when I let my power engulf me though I noticed that there was a considerable amount of light compared to shadows, before I knew what was happening I was on the deck, just above where I was being kept in a cell. People went about their daily tasks, humming and talking, occasionally someone would step through me and let's just say it's not an experience you would care to repeat. I looked around, most things were too blurry to make out finer details but the only thing that was in focus was my mother, almost immediately I focused on returning to my body below deck, and my phantom like state dispersed.

A (Not So) Simple Fetch Quest
Oh great hero! The evil Demon Lord has once again arisen to terrorise our lands, and we have summoned you to save our people! No, we don't want you to fight the demon lord! Of course not; we're the good guys! What sort of good guys kidnap people from other worlds and force them to take part in wars that have nothing to do with them? That would just be plain evil! We'd be no better than the demons! Katie, after her summoning by an excessively loud mage suddenly takes an unexpected twist, is sent off on a simple fetch quest, with a promise that she'll be back home in five minutes at most. She doesn't even need to leave the building. Alas, when a goddess' blessing causes her wish for an actual adventure to be taken rather more literally than she expected, she finds herself lost in a dark cave, far away from the sword she was supposed to acquire and far too close to a population of giant bugs. Still, at least she wished her life wasn't in any danger. Among other things. Be careful what you wish for. You might just get it. This is a dark litRPG adventure, both in terms of Katie accidentally wishing all the lights out, and also in that she loses as often as she wins, often with horrific and disturbing consequences. Luckily, Katie isn’t the sort of person to let a mere grizzly death or two get her down, and is prepared to try, try and try again to get her hands on the holy sword and finally complete her ‘simple’ fetch quest. Or perhaps—with a few resistance skills under her nightie—she might even come to enjoy losing. Not that she’d ever consider forgoing revenge, even if she did. I’ve ticked all the content warning checkboxes for this one. There’s no explicit sexual content, but there are enough references to justify the warning. Profanity happens rarely, but Katie isn’t averse to swearing when she gets particularly angry. As for gore/trauma, it doesn’t get much worse than the first few chapters, but there will be occasional chapters that have extra content warnings.
