Before they walked into the Slat, they decided to explain some stuff to the kids.
"First it's not dangerous in there per se, but if anyone messes with you, tell me or Inej. We'll deal with it." Kaz told them, and once seeing that they understood, He motioned with his head for her to lead.
Inej did so and opened the door for everyone. The room went silent and everyone froze in what they were doing. Kaz and the kids walked over to the bar where Jesper was, a drink halfway to his mouth.
He helped Virgil up onto the barstool and motioned for Wylan, who was bartending, to come over. Damian hopped up by his brother and glanced at Kaz to make sure it was okay.
Kaz smiled and said "I didn't help you up because I thought you could do it by yourself. You're allowed to sit up here.". Wylan approached, raising a eyebrow asking Kaz a silent question. Kaz just gave him a look that said 'I'll explain later.'.
"Get them something to drink and something to eat. No alcohol. And nothing too heavy." Kaz told Wylan as he looked at the pair of boys, and noticed that they were a bit too skinny.
Wylan nodded and went off to the back to fetch them food. Kaz looked at Jesper who was on the other end of the bartop, and jerked his head towards the new kids. Kaz then looked at Anika, who was standing at the doors.
She nodded her head and locked the doors. Wylan came back with a tray stack full of stuff, but what made Kaz chuckle was that he was carrying it like he was a waiter. He set the tray down at the same time that Jesper took a closer seat, which was right next to Damian.
Damian and Virgil both went taut and looked at Kaz for reassurance. Kaz gave them a small nod and said "That's Jesper. He's one of my best..." Kaz paused thinking for a second,"Friends. You can trust him."
The boys turned back to Jesper who seemed to be frozen.
But After a few seconds, Jesper smiled brightly and said,"Yeah, like Kaz said, I'm Jesper Fahey. I am his 3rd. It's a pleasure to meet you.". Damian smiled and introduced himself, but Virgil seemed to be a bit hesitant to say anything yet.

He was looking at Jesper like he was trying to figure him out.
It seemed he had decided when he nodded his head at Jes and said,"I'm Virgil."
They then turned back to Wylan who was waiting patiently with the tray. He gave them each a plate and a bowl with a glass of amber liquid. Kaz glared at Wylan.
Wylan noticing the nasty look he was getting smirked and said,"It's Apple juice." Kaz rolled his eyes and subtly flipped him off.
He motioned towards Wylan and said,"That's Wylan, he's dating Jesper. I think of him as a son of sorts. You can trust him as well." Wylan blinked for a bit before zoning back in, and he started to nod and smile.
They nodded back and started to dig into the crackers and soup. Kaz turned around to where he was facing the room and said,"You mess with them and I'll kill you slowly. Got it?" The room was quick to shout back their agreement.
"Former dime lions, meet in my office." Kaz turned back around and whispered to the kids.
"I'll be back in a bit. Listen to Jesper and Wylan." He then gave Wylan and Jesper a look that told them to watch the kids, and he started towards his office.
He felt behind him that about 5 or so people were starting to follow him into his office. He silently nodded to himself, as he was walking, knowing that it was the right amount of people. When he got through the doorway of his office he sensed Inej standing behind the door, ready to close it once everyone was through and inside.
He flexed his hand at his side, in a five gesture, knowing that she would be looking for it. She probably already counted but it was always good to make sure so that there was no confusion.
He sat down in his desk chair and folded his hands together, waiting for the 5 former dime lions to settle into comfortable standing positions in front of his desk. Once they were settled he coughed into his fist and he heard the door slam closed.
The 4 of the 5 jumped and turned around to look at Inej who was leaning against the door with her arms folded smirking at the group.
The 5th person, Kaz thought his name was Jack, continued to stare at Kaz like he was expecting to be executed. The others soon turned back around to face Kaz and waited for him to get started.

"As I understand, you guys are former dime lions." At their affirmative nods, he continued. "How many of you are aware that Pekka's back in town?"
The reactions he got were varied. 1 of the guys looked rather confused by this whole situation and shook his head. 2 others, a guy and a girl, shook their heads as well.
Kaz could tell that they were both lying from the way that the girl was fidgeting with her hair, and the guy was drumming his fingers against his thigh. Jack and one other girl were nodding their heads slowly.
Kaz looked at them and said,"And of those who didn't hear about it, after hearing about it, are still loyal to me. The confused one nodded his head enthusiastically and so did the girl who had lied previously. Only this time she seemed to be telling the truth.
The guy who had lied obviously answered affirmative, but he was still lying. Kaz nodded acting like he was satisfied with the answers. He then looked at Jack and the Girl,"And you 2?".
The girl watched Kaz for a bit, not saying anything.
Then she spoke "My loyalty was never intact before this. I was just looking for sanctuary after Pekka left like a coward. However, I would absolutely hate to go crawling back to a coward like Pekka. And you got Balls, to ask us straight up whether we're still loyal. So i've made my decision. I will be a Dreg until I die or you kick me out. Whichever comes first." Kaz nodded and turned to Jack.
"Wherever she goes, I go. If she'll follow you, then I'll follow you. My sister has never steered us wrong before." Jack said, nodding at the girl who had just pledged her loyalty to the Dregs.
Kaz nodded again sat back in his chair. 4 out of 5 wasn't bad for loyalty standards. Especially since before this Kaz hadn't even acknowledged their existence. But then again he rarely did that anyway. Now what to do with the Turncoat...Kaz could kill him to set an example.
After all, the 5 weren't the only dime lions in his ranks. They were just the only ones in the room at the time. Or he could show mercy and let him go...But then Pekka would have another person added to his ranks. And one with connections into his gang. Kaz sighed and passed a hand over his face.
He suddenly sat up straighter and grabbed the knife that was under his chair. He then pointed it at the Turncoat and said,"I don't appreciate being lied to. Especially not by some yellow bellied skiv, who was just trying to save his own hide."
Inej stepped forward, ready to stop the guy if he decided to flee. Kaz wasn't a good person. This was a already established fact, but he could show mercy...when he deigned to.
"Go back to the master you serve, But stay among us no longer. You have 10 seconds to get out of my office before this knife goes through your head." Kaz snarled at him and pointed at the door with the knife. The guy nodded and ran for the door and ran through it. Kaz threw the knife.
The knife thunked into the wood of the door as it slammed shut, right where the guy's head was previously. Everyone in the room watched as the knife quivered in the wood, still shaking from the force behind the throw. Inej pulled it out of the wood and wordlessly handed it back to Kaz.
He then pointed at the girl who had lied. "I know you lied too. But not about being loyal to me. Next time I ask you a question be honest, cause you're not fooling me." She nodded at him and he sat back in his chair.
"Well let me officially welcome you into the Dregs. I'm Dirtyhands. What's your names?" They went through their names and Kaz filed them away for later.
He was right about Jack's name and his Sister was named Victoria. The confused one was Shane, and the lying girl was named Alexa. He then got settled and asked them if they wanted to help him out with something.
When they nodded their heads, he started to explain his plan. If he could pull it off, Pekka was gonna have a very bad time.

The Designated: Out of Control
It happened quicker than anyone would have imagined. Multiple hurricanes were one thing. People had dealt with that in the past. But, like kids playing dominoes, one thing crashed into another. Areas affected by hurricanes needed resources all along the Gulf and East Coasts drew rescuers and resources away from other parts of the country. When wildfires lit up the Pacific coast and mid-west, those areas were already understaffed. Driven by hurricanes in the Pacific basin, uncontrolled wildfires burned through towns, destroying everything in their paths. Across the Pacific, Asia didn't escape. From the Philippines, across China, into Indochina, and Bangladesh and India. Typhoons and cyclones pounded the coasts and far inland. Widespread flooding forced millions from their homes and across international borders. Mexico was hit hard and thousands died in mudslides as Katia slammed into their East Coast. The refugees fled north and west. Rumours started that hundreds of thousands were headed for the US border. Instead of running out of steam in the southern US, several hurricanes tore up the eastern seaboard, devastating cities and renewing their strength before veering east across the Atlantic. Maria and Ophelia veered east and slammed into Europe, reaching as far as the Netherlands and Russia before finally dissipating. After that, too many weather stations were offline to provide any form of co-ordinated information or warnings. Wildfires in Portugal burned ahead of the storms, fanned by hurricane winds. They sparked wildfires leapfrogging across Europe, beyond any one country's ability to cope. Already uneasy from multiple terrorist attacks over the summer, anti-refugee groups seized the opportunity to stage protests across Europe. Some turned violent as they clashed with police forces. Several governments declared martial law to quell the rioting and enforce evacuations along the path of the storms. Rumour and speculation overwhelmed facts. Unrest spilled over into widespread violence. Then sickness broke out in the displaced populations. Within a matter of a dozen weeks, tens of millions died. In the coming winter months hundreds more would follow. The Designated Project was activated.
