"What the hell do you mean, he's back?" Jesper burst out. Even Inej was shocked. She hadn't even known this. Pekka was actually trying to die. If he hurt Kaz one more time....Pekka's son might be inheriting his empire a little early.
"Jes, I don't know how I can make this any easier to understand." Kaz told him, as if he was a toddler. "He's back, and he's got Per Haskell with him. He's coming after the gang. That's why I told Wylan to get more recruits. We're gonna need some numbers."
"This is bullshit, how in the hell are we supposed to beat them again. And if you noticed we're down 3 of our crew. One forever. And the other 2 are both in Ravka. Or wherever the Hell Nina is!" Jesper shouted at Kaz.
He wasn't really shouting at him, but more to the room. He was obviously panicking.
"Wait Wylan knew about this?!?!" Inej asked feeling her anger rise once again.
"Not exactly, no. The note was on my desk when I woke up, because I sent out some feelers to figure out where he was and the report I got back said and I quote,"he's back and he's got the old man with him. Best lay low ~ Anika" But we all know that that ain't gonna happen." Kaz said, while taking a piece of paper out of his inner vest pocket.
It was the note. He quietly handed it to her. He knew her so well, he knew that she would want to see it herself. She examined every inch of it. It was definitely Anika's handwriting, although Inej could have gone without knowing that she put a "xo" at the end by her name.
Inej all of sudden decided that she no longer liked Anika. She glanced up at Kaz and he gave her a small smile, knowing exactly what she was thinking. Inej knew that she couldn't blame Anika. This was before they announced that they were dating.

But somehow the rational part of her was not winning over the part that wanted to scream at Anika to back off. But she would hold herself back if only, so Kaz wouldn't have any reason to give her that smug smile of his. Because yes...he's apparently not the only one who gets Jealous.
"What do we do about this?" Jesper asked the room, looking for a answer. Kaz looked lost and Wylan looked like he wanted to throw up.
"We fight!" Inej said loudly. Getting everyone's attention. It was time for a inspirational speech.
"We fight!," she repeated," because that's what we do. We fight and we cause trouble. We raise hell. And if we have to, we will burn their entire empire to the ground. We don't surrender. We will never just roll over and take it lying down. So we fight, and we win." Inej everyone was looking at her with varying expressions.
Wylan looked a little less queasy.
Jesper was nodding with her, as he fingered his gun handles.
And Kaz looked proud.
"No Mourners." Inej said....even though that didn't necessarily mean the same thing anymore.
"No Funerals." They chorused back to her. She suddenly wondered if she could start a rally.
"No Mourners!" She shouted.
"No Funerals!" They shouted back to her.
"NO MOURNERS!!" She screamed at them.
"NO FUNERALS!!" They screamed at her.
"NOW GET OUT THERE!! GO TAKE SOME NAMES AND KICK SOME ASS!!!" She screamed.
Wylan and Jesper started for the door and Kaz laughed. Realizing that they didn't have orders yet Wylan and Jesper stopped and looked at her and Kaz.
"Lay low. Act like you know nothing for right now. But keep your ears open and your eyes peeled. Look for anyone acting suspicious. Go about your day that you usually would. Inej and I will start by lurking around The Emerald Palace and see exactly how worried we should be." Kaz told them.

They nodded and after them telling Kaz and Inej to be careful, they left the office leaving the two alone.
"Wraith." Kaz said drawing her attention to him. "I won't tell you to stay out of this because I know you won't. But can you please for the love of all that's holy, be careful?"
She raised one of her eyebrows,"Are you implying that I'm not careful?" She asked him
"Of course you're not careful, you're dating me." He said while giving her a crooked smile.
She quietly laughed as he started walking closer to her. He put a gloved hand on her face, caressing her cheek.
"If you get hurt because of my problems with Pekka and Per Haskell, I'll never forgive myself. And if you die..." Kaz cut himself off, to clear his throat. He sounded a little strangled when he continued. "I don't know who I'll be after. So please for the sake of the world. Don't get hurt and don't die."
"Well it's a good thing, I have no intention to die. At least not while my family is in danger." She whispered to him, as his thumb started to stroke along her cheek.
"I love you, Inej." Kaz said, all while placing a kiss on her forehead.
"I love you too, Kaz." She said as she wrapped her arms around his neck.
They could start the stakeout that night but for right now, she was just gonna hug the love of her life and forget the rest of the world for a little while.

Is it Really Ok for a Dungeon Master to Manage a Dungeon?
Leo Flores just wanted to play D&D with his friends. He didn't expect anything life changing to happen during their odd little campaign, but next thing he knows he's been summoned by those same friends as the Demon King who will lead their dungeon to greatness. This takes being a Dungeon Master to a whole new level doesn't it? A fun romp of a story that takes a few jabs at the common tropes found in isekai LN while also mainting a genuine plot. Some moments and characters are based off my own campaigns I've run before. Trying to upload once a week, but may take up to two weeks to upload.

Homecoming | A Chronicles of Ascension Story
When Jethen was captured by slavers, his childhood was torn from him and left shattered half a world away. When he finds himself back home decades later, by methods he does not fully understand, he finds that the life he has lived has changed him far more than he knew. In a home he no longer knows. Places and people at the same time familiar and foreign, he must decide - stay and help with his parent's business, or return to the land that remade him and the family he made there. --------- Homecoming started as just a short story to break an episode of writers block. It has since morphed well beyond that into a novel in it's own right, and may well end up with a sequel. The writing of Homecoming became a bit of a self induced challenge to improve my initial, first brush, writing quality. Each chapter was written raw, given a once over read and edit, and then posted. In this way I am forcing myself to write better from the start. I do hope you enjoy the story and will leave a comment or review, and if you see an issue, feel free to let me know as well. I know it is not nearly perfect, and it will get a full and proper edit once I am done. Never hurts to fix things along the way though. As an additional note. The story has undergone a structural rework and has been reposted in an updated structure and sequence of chapters. If you have read this story already, I invite you to do so again in this new structure.

The Dreamside Road
Five years after the world fell into chaos, a treasure of artifacts is up for grabs. The relics of the Dreamside Road offer a power that could help rebuild or annihilate what remains. Orson Gregory is an adventurer for hire, but hunts this treasure for answers, not glory. Enoa Cloud’s late aunt helped hide the Dreamside Road, but following in her aunt’s supernatural tradition offers her as much peril as power. Together, Orson and Enoa battle a magic-obsessed militia, clash with a host of rivals, and face constant adventure on their journey to find the Dreamside Road. *Updates Monday and Friday The Dreamside Road is now on TopWebFiction! Vote so people know this exists. _____________________________________ NOTE: The Progression tag applies specifically to Enoa. Also, fair warning, that element doesn't enter the story until she begins her studies. Content: Main characters range in age from teenagers to people in their thirties and older, but it will not contain gratuitous violence or explicit sexual content. It also won’t shy away from implication, anything to make this story and its world feel more real. Characters will freely allude to potentially triggering topics, including living with a disability, facing terminal illness, coping with trauma, surviving societal destabilization, and the consequences of bigotry. At its most intense, the Dreamside Road is a hard PG-13. Worldbuilding: This is not a story with a lot of early exposition scenes, conveniently explaining ‘magic systems’ and political dynamics. Readers will learn, progressively, as the characters do. This story/world has a ‘magic system’, or rather, a set of systems, but the effort to quantify and understand the truth of the setting plays a role in the backstory, as well as in some character motivations. In that same vein, not every character has a firm grasp on the nature of their world, and not every piece of dialog from every character should be taken as entirely truthful Worldbuilding. Also, this isn't the softest Sci-fi. There are at least some basic explanations given for various elements, but Royal Road does not give me a spectrum to choose from. Given the choice between hard and soft, let's just say The Dreamside Road won't be cited in any college Physics papers. Setting and Theme: The Dreamside Road walks the line between fantasy and science fiction and deals with finding one’s place in a changing world. Many of the characters in this story are United States natives and the story begins in the United States, my homeland. However, knowledge or interest in this country is not necessary to understand the story, especially as it progresses. Also, as this is a novel that deals with societal collapse and while that damage may be widespread, in story, I don’t want to overstep and critique the culture of others’ unless I have particular knowledge in a given area. Ultimately, the Dreamside Road is American in the same way Harry Potter is English, fantasies that do not have a full secondary world, but with enough original elements to fully diverge the setting from our the real world.
