《Something about Alan》Chapter 4

I ended up doing nothing at all for the rest of the night. Just laid on my bed thinking of all that had taken place in a fraction of seconds. I groaned, wiping my tears, shifting over and pushing my face on to the soft cushions of the bed. My bedroom door was wide open and if anyone walked in, they will comprehend that I had been crying.

When I heard the car's sound through my open window, I immediately woke up - my parents have arrived. Both are doctors. They are one of those happy couple who get to work with each other. It's like they were destined forever. College sweethearts turned into best partners for life!

My parents are so lucky!

Closing my bedroom door silently, I wiped away the frown from my face and also the dried tears. I watched my reflection closely in the mirror and only walked away when I was confident that I could hide away my emotions from my parents. I waited, walking in rounds near the bedroom door for mom to knock and ask how my day was. But it didn't happen for another 15 minutes. So I slowly opened the door and eavesdropped on their conversations. I instantly ran downstairs as I overheard them discussing something which has perked up my ears.

"Did you hear about Anna's son?" My mom inquired as she stood up from her chair, pulling out her coat and staring over the pile of clothes, books, and all the unnecessary things all over the living room. I slipped and sat opposite to her.

My dad, who had changed quickly into his night suit, came from his room, sitting along with me, wearing a deep look on his face. "Yes. They are going to divorce?"

"That's what I heard," mom said with a slightly sympathetic face, "it's tough for her son. They were close."

"Um, who is divorcing?" I asked, coolly.

Mom lifted her eyebrow at dad and threw the coat at me, "oh hi hon, didn't see you there."

I picked up the sarcastic tone she used at me. "Seriously?" I asked, tossing the coat from my face.

"What? I didn't notice you were sitting there."

Dad laughs along with mom while I grunted.

"Imogene, that was a great one!" My dad pointed out who was still laughing. When I scowled at him, he shook his face and giggled more. "Oh, come on, Jo! You never sit along with us. May I remind you that for past few months you were so restless, shut inside your room and sometimes ate your dinner in your room?" I shrugged, realizing I may have acted stupid after I got turned down by agents.

"Your mom is just so shocked to see you here, that's all," said dad, picking up the discarded magazine from the floor.

I saw mom removing her washed lunch box and her cell phone charger from her bag. "Jo," does this have to do something with your writing? Why are you asking about divorce?"

"Because everyone is talking about Anna's son?" I explained to her, but it was more like a question.

"Oh, no," she said, gesturing at my dad for something. I frowned, glancing at them for information.

"What? What is it?"

Mom moved closer, slowly kneeling in front of me. She grabbed my palms enclosing it with hers, "hon, I know you are in your teenage but trust me pretty little boys can make your brain do everything."

"What?"

"I know Anna's son is pure gorgeous but you have a boyfriend."

I stared at dad for help when I noticed he was trying very hard to control his laugh; I understood my mum was playing. "Oh cut it, mom!"

And again they giggled.

Mom sat on the floor still chuckling, "Jo, even the nurse in my hospital has hots for that boy. Anna was furious! But his eyes, oh dear. I believe he gets his eyes from Anna."

"You... You met him?" I whispered, suddenly feeling cautious about it.

She moved back to rest in her chair. "Yeah. He came along with his mother today. Anna was on duty. A criminal was seriously injured. So for stitching him up, she came along with him. She was just showing him around."

I nodded, processing the information.

"How's Jack?"

I abruptly stood up from the couch, "yeah he is fine. Ok I will be off to... my room."

"Oh, there she goes..." my dad responded with a theatrical effect.

And later they laughed again. I rolled my eyes at them but when I turned there was sure a smile on my face.

After, my dinner (which I ate along with my parents) I found the courage to text Jack. He must think rational now. It's been hours.
