As soon as I manage to zip up my case, my dad takes it from me and begins to wheel it down the corridor.
"C'mon love, we've got to leave the room so they can start cleaning."
"Just a minute." I call back.
I grab my handbag and pour my loose change into the ashtray for the maid before hurrying out the door after my dad, closing it behind me. Me and my dad squish into a lift with the cases and I reach over to press the button.
"How're you feeling?" My dad asks me.
"Better than yesterday, I think. Glad to be leaving."
He nods, pulling into a one-armed hug and rubbing my arm with his hand. "You'll be fine. Trust your old man."
The lift arrives and I begin to help my dad get some of the cases out into the reception. I look around, watching as my dad makes his way toward the rest of my family who are sat on chairs near to the main entrance. Taking a last glance out at the pool and across to the line of hedges Jake led me through in order to get to the shingle beach.
My stomach twists at the memory, and I clench my fists.
When my focus shifts back inside, to the people stood around, I see him. He's standing anxiously near the stairs, foot tapping as he looks across the reception. I shift slightly so I'm hidden behind a huge indoor plant, and watch him through a gap in the leaves.
He looks as though he hasn't slept, his hair messy from him running his hands through it continuously. I don't want to talk to him. I can't. I'm so close to leaving this all behind. The ache in my chest is a constant reminder of what he did and how much he hurt me, but I could walk away now, and never have to face him ever again. He'll carry on with the last three days of his holiday, and I will go home.

But this could be my last chance. It could be the last time I ever see him, my last chance to hear what he has to say. After that, I can fully but him behind me and move on. Surely someone who knew they were leading someone on wouldn't be this upset about losing them? He looks awful. Disheveled and stressed, worried even. His glassy eyes a sign that maybe, just maybe, he's feeling the same pain I am.
Fuck it.
If it's the last time I'll ever see him, I might as well have the truth.
I take one step out from behind the plant, intending to walk towards him, but stop as I watch him shake his head, defeatedly. He begins to turn away, taking step after step towards the stairs, rubbing his eyes on the edge of his sleeve as he goes.
I could stop him. Run to him, call his name, let him know I'm here, listen as he explains everything to me. But I hold myself back.
It's a sign that he gave up when he did. God knows how long he's been waiting down here, and for him to give up at the exact moment he did? It can't be a coincidence.
So, I blink the tears from my eyes as I take in his retreating figure for one last time before turning my back on him, on this holiday, on every memory I had made with Jake, and return to my family.

"--Very well." He exhaled sharply, loosening his shirt and tie with a prompt tug. "Since you don't believe me." He slid his uniform's necktie and slipped off his suit jacket. COMMAND
"Sit. Stand. Don't. Enough. Leave. Come." Are the only words in the dictionary of Rogue Slade, the billionaire with the power to strip you of your will. He was smoldering, hypnotic, and alluring. But he was also unpredictable. Voted in high school as most likely to turn into a psychopath or an ax murderer. Beth Wallace had only seen him on the television or on the front pages of a magazine, but it was enough that she hoped to never cross path with someone who irked her. Until her friend, Hanna turned up missing, and Rogue Slade barged into her life like a bulldozer, threatening her peace. Hanna was the sister to Rogue's friend, and the last thing her brother heard from her was that she was meeting with someone named Beth. Beth swore she didn't know anything about Hanna's disappearance, but Rogue was hellbent on making her talk, even if it meant kidnapping her to his home, where he will exercise his power and dominance to find out the truth.

Romance - plus Judgemental Powers? Completed
Blue was a red headed boy who desperately wanted a girlfriend. So he asked the class beauty to walk home with him. She very nicely refused him. So he asked another girl in the same class, one with an average rating in the social status ranking. She also refused him. So, still desperate, he thinks – “I’m probably at the bottom of the ranking for boys in this class, so how about I ask the girl who is also at the lowest ranking?” The girl’s name was Pink. She said yes. Gulp. “What do I do now?” was his reaction. Well, obviously, have a romance. And, along the way, they get one hell of a lot more than they bargained for. Like, for example, supernatural Judgemental Powers. How did they get those? And that was only the start. The two most insignificant students in their class become famous. Not just in their class or even in their school, but to the population at large. They end up breaking and making the top politicians and rulers of their country. But finally, of course, they get what they wanted. A committed relationship. This is an Esmeralda the Angel of Death story. It follows on from my previous novel “Maybe it would have been a good idea not to wish for a harem?”, however it is a totally separate story with only a minimal overlap in the characters. There is no need to read the first story to enjoy this one. Although you just might enjoy the first story also… This story has multiple characters and multiple Points of View. Every POV change is clearly marked with a new header. Inside each POV section, the POV character’s thoughts are in italics. This story has about 105,000 words (about 380 RoyalRoad pages). It is fully written and proof read (the poor man’s proof read using Word). It has 25 chapters, and will be published at the rate of roughly one chapter per day.
