"You are beautiful like a beautiful piece of pizza."
I turn to look at Jake as he lifts up his pizza slice. "Did you just quote Shaggy from Scooby Doo?" I ask.
"The fact you knew that was a Scooby Doo quote makes my mind go to dangerous places."
I blush at his implication and he smiles, leaning over from his seat next to me to give me a kiss and I push him away laughing.
"You're such a dork."
"What's your favourite number?"
"Oh my God, you are so random."
"You love it and you know it."
I roll my eyes, "462."
His face scrunches in confusion, "Your favourite number is 462?"
"Yeah." I answer with a shrug.
"You're not kidding?"
"No!" I shout hitting him on the arm. "Stop judging my answer."
"I'm not judging, I'm just surprised."
"What's your favourite number, then?"
"I like 5."
I pull a face. "An odd number?"
"What's wrong with odd numbers?"
"Nothing's wrong with them, they're just...odd."
He smiles and pops another fry in his mouth. "That's the point. Oh, did you know all odd numbers have the letter 'e' in them? Anyway, Aren't you going to ask me why I like 5?"
I sigh, "Why do you like 5."
He shrugs, "Dunno, just do."
I stare at him blankly and he laughs.
We finish our food an hour later and I stand, "I'm just going the toilet, I'll meet you back at the pool?"
He nods, smiling, "Sounds good."
I walk slowly to the toilets, desperately trying not to slip on the wet tiles and I manage to make it without incident. Before leaving I check myself in the mirror and retie my ponytail.

I make it halfway to our sunbeds when I slip on a wet tile near to the pool. I shut my eyes and brace for hitting the hard floor, but it never comes. Someone's arms are around me and I open my eyes slowly.
"Are you ok?"
I nod at the stranger in front of me. "Uh, yeah. Thanks for, um, catching me." I laugh awkwardly and the boy in front of me smiles. He's about my age with blonde hair and brown eyes and he currently has no shirt on. I avert my eyes to anywhere but his chest, instead focusing on his wide smile.
"No problem." He pulls me up straight and I stumble slightly. "I'm Dan."
"Amber."
"Nice to meet you Amber."
Dan's eyes flick to something behind me and his smile falters slightly. I jump as two arms snake around my waist. I turn to see Jake and he kisses me on the cheek, his grip tightening on my waist slightly as he looks at Dan, eyes narrowed. "Who's this?" He asks.
"Um, this is Dan. I slipped and he caught me." I reply as means of explanation.
Jake's hand moves to come around my shoulder as he leans forwards from behind me to shake Dan's hand. "Well, thanks for helping out my girlfriend, Dan, she can be really clumsy sometimes." He and Dan give equally forced laughs.
Girlfriend??
Dan gives a low whistle. "If I had a girlfriend that looked like that," he nods in my direction, flashing a smile, "I wouldn't let her out of my sight." He finishes, sending a wink my way.
Jake gives Dan a tight smile, "Well, it definitely won't happen again. Nice talking to you, Dan." I could tell it wasn't sincere, and from his expression, I had a feeling Dan could tell as well.

Dan backs away, arms raised in surrender. "See you around." He says in my direction, before turning and walking in the opposite direction.
I pivot to face Jake, "What was that?"
He refuses to meet my gaze, instead choosing to squint into the distance. "What was what?"
"Well, first of all, you were really rude to someone who had actually helped me."
Jake scoffs and I raise an eyebrow. "Oh, come on, that guy was basically undressing you with his eyes."
"I'm not dense Jake, I noticed, but you didn't have to be a dick."
"He's the dick. Cocky shit."
"Why is he bothering you so much?"
Jake looks down at the floor, shrugging.
I smirk slightly, "Jake Fletcher, were you...jealous?"
"What? No."
"Oh my God! You were jealous." I say pointing at him with a smile.
He grabs my finger, pushing my hand back down to my side. "You wish, Bloom."
We stand in silence for a moment, but then I smile slightly and nudge his foot with my own. "Girlfriend, huh?"
"Shut up."
