Arielle's POV

This place is like, cursed. That was the third time I passed out since I came to Ruenastia and it's all because of Devon

I came out of the bathroom after washing my face. It has been two days since the incident. It's Tuesday evening and Devon still hasn't come back to the room. I lay down on the bed facing the ceiling and closed my eyes. I decided to think about a lot of things

Does my family miss me? Did dad finally realise his mistake and kick that evil woman out of the house? Did he have a heart attack as punishment for selling me? Did a tank truck crash into the car and burn the whole family alive? Oh I could only hope

I heard shuffling and I opened my eyes. Devon was staring at me. His face was just a few centimeters away from mine

"ahhhh!" I screamed and rolled over to the other side of the bed

"you do have a lot of negative thoughts" he said, walked over to my side and sat down next to me.

"what do you mean" I asked and he sighed

"I read minds" he answered

"woh..." note to self, never think again

"you can't actually stop thinking. You know that right" he asked with a raised eyebrow

"I could always try" I murmured and he chuckled

"what happened to you two days ago" I asked but Devon moved closer to me and sniffed

"Devon...."

"I smell blood" he said and sniffed again. I was confused at first but my eyes widened with realization. I ran to the bathroom and locked the door with Devon laughing in the room

"how could you not know you were on your period" he asked

"stupid vampire nose" I murmured

"I heard that!" he shouted and I rolled my eyes

"Devon..."

"yeah"

"do you by any chance have some pads?"

"of course not" he answered

"well could you..."

"on it" he said and I heard a whoosh. Not too long after, I heard a knock on the door

"I've got them" he said and I opened the door slightly and took the pad and black undies from him. Did he?...

"don't worry, I didn't wander too much" he said

"stupid vampire" I murmured

"I heard that!" he said

I cleaned up and left the bathroom to meet a smiling Devon

"nice panties" he said with a smile

"you got them for me" I said with a blush

"I know. I've got good taste" he said and licked his fangs. I gulped and he smiled slightly

"don't worry, I'm not gonna bite you" he said and walked to the bed

"really" I asked, following him from behind

"um..." he sat on the bed and I sat next to him

"you never answered my question" I said and he sighed

"you didn't tell me what happened two days ago" I said

"nothing you need to worry about" he said and laid down on the bed. I did the same and closed my eyes. Not too long after, Talia came into the room along with some other slaves holding food

"it's dinner time my prince" she said while the other maids served me the food. After the incident that happened two days ago, I've been getting the queen's treatment. They now give me lots of food and fruits and I don't even have to step out of the room.

I've asked Talia, Joshua and even Megan but nobody is telling me why. It gets really uncomfortable because I see the nasty looks some slaves give me. It feels good to be envied but it's only a matter of time till I get poisoned.

"thank you" I said to the slaves and they all smiled and left along with Talia and Devon.

Halfway through my food, Joshua barges into the room

"hey Arielle" he says and jumps on the bed

"Joshua, how many times do I have to tell you to knock before entering the room? Devon's going to Kill You if he finds out"

"then he doesn't have to find out" he said and took an apple from the tray

"whatever. What are you doing here?"

"can't I come to visit my favorite girl" he winks and I smile

"seriously Joshua"

"it's the truth though. You hardly ever come out and Devon won't let me see you so I told Megan I'm feeling sick"

"and she let you go" I asked

"yeah. She's pretty much occupied with Devon and Joshua to actually care. They were talking about the ball coming up on Thursday"

"oh my God! I totally forgot about that. What am I going to wear?" I panicked

"we're pets, we don't have to dress fancy. In fact, most pets there are going to be naked" he said

"what!" I shouted

"yep. Silvatorem is a pretty rough vampire kingdom and probably some parts of Gilador. Only some of the royal pets are allowed to wear clothes, some...not so decent though. He said and snuggled deeper into the pillow

" woooh... Even the males " I asked and he sat up immediately

"but especially the females... " he said with a frown"... Most pet owners use their pet to prove a lot of things. Pets with good skin, nice blood and are well tamed are really expensive. They feel the best way to flaunt their money is through their pets and what better way to show off than to make their assets on full display. It's not allowed in Ruenastia and some other kingdoms though" he said. I wonder how he knows so much

"aish... I suddenly feel so lucky to be here" I said and he muttered something along the lines of 'not being here at all'

"anyway, we're going shopping tomorrow. I'm not buying anything though, I'm just escorting Megan"

"why aren't you getting anything?" I asked and he shrugged

"I'm a pet, I can't exactly go there in suit" I'll just put on a t-shirt and jeans. They'd probably get you a gown o something " he said and closed his eyes. I laid beside him and closed my eyes

" what're you doing? "he asked

" trying to sleep. You should go to your room now" I said

"nah, I'll watch you sleep for a while" he says

I smile and say "you're creepy"

"I know" he says and I slowly close my eyes, already feeling sleepy

"goodnight Arielle" he says and pecks my forehead

Joshua's POV

Tik tok. It's only a matter of time before Devon comes to the room

I hear a click and Devon enters

Bingo!

"what are you doing here?" he asks

"nothing really, just protecting Arielle from monsters like you" I say and stand up

"do you really think you can protect Arielle? You're just a useless human, a pet. What could you possibly do against a vampire?" he asks

"say whatever you want prince. You know nothing..." he holds me by my neck and raises me up, choking me

"don't try to act big over here. You should know your place Joshua. You're just human, a pet for that matter. I can end your life in seconds. We only give humans such freedom in this kingdom because we feel pity for your kind. If I ever see you near this room without invitation, I'll make your death slo and painful "he says. His golden eyes slowly changing red and he drops me down

" calm down.... "I massage my neck"... Why are you suddenly so protective of Arielle? After all, she's just your human, your pet...." I move closer to his face and smirk her"... Or is there something more to it? "I ask with a cocked brow

" I see no reason why I should be talking to you Joshua. You seem to really not care for your life. Really brave I must say, but at the end, you're just a pet. I can end your life right now and no one, not even Megan, would question me" he says

"yeah yeah, but I'm sure Arielle will miss me..." I say and smile as he raises his eyebrow "... You know, I like Arielle a lot, heck I even love her and I'm almost sure she feels the Same way...." he interrupts me

"I really don't care what you feel. Do whatever you want but you're not allowed to be in a relationship. If you really need to satisfy your manly needs then tell Megan to sign you up for breeding" he says and shoves me out the door.

I adjust my collar and walk to Megan's room.

She's sitting on her bed reading a fashion magazine. She looks up when I come In

"where were you?" she asks

"I was with Arielle" I say and sit on my own bed. She stiffens and sighs

"Joshua, I told you you weren't allowed to..." she starts but I interrupt

"yeah yeah, I know. It won't happen again" I say. I'm not really ready for her nagging

"I hope it doesn't. By the way, Im going to be having a bite tomorrow" she says with a smirk and I groan, understanding that I am gonna be bitten

"whaaaat? Consider it a punishment for disobeying me" she says and turns off the light.

"goodnight princess. Sleep well" I say

"I don't sleep you fool" she says and I laugh as she leaves the room
