《Sophie Swan: P.L》Chapter twenty:

Bella and Edward decided to go visit mum. This means I got to hang out more with Paul, without dad constantly on my back. Since Edward and my sister were spending a weekend together I was allowed to spend the weekend with Paul.
This was great, seeing as the last sleepover we were meant to have, got cut short as Bella decided to jump on some random dude's motorcycle.
"Hey, I'm going on patrol do you want me to take you to Emily's?"
"Yes, please."
I arrived at Emily's and watched as the rest of the pack left for patrol. "Hey, Sophie."
"Hey, Em. Why are there so many for patrol?"
"Oh, I guess they wanted to do some sort of exercise as a group, like a trusting exercise."
"Oh, neat."
"So you wanna bake some cookies?"
"Emily, I feel like we've gone past this point in our relationship to already know the answer to that question."
She laughed and we got started.
"Sophie, I told Sam about what you spoke about before. With you turning into a vampire."
"Yeah? What did he say?"
"He said the pack will protect you, no matter what."
"Okay, thank you. I just thought that he should know."
The pack soon came back and Paul seemed to be rather pissed off. "Hey, Soph."
"Hey, guys. Paul? Everything okay?" I waved to Emily with a semi-full load of cookies in my hand, while walking off with Paul's arm over my shoulder.
"Uh, yeah. Just one of the Cullen's jumped over to our side."
"Why?" I doubt any of them would do it on purpose. Not without a reason.
"Don't worry about it. Come on, let's go make some pizza."
"And cookies," I say grinning like a Cheshire cat. Mmm, more food. I can't wait.

"You've already got cookies."
"Yeah, but you don't have any cookies."
"Well, what if I just take some of yours?"
"No! Sophie doesn't share food."
This past weekend was fun. Too bad it had to end, Bella came back and to apologise for taking my plane ticket. Fangs over here drove me to school.
We arrived when Edward seemed rigid. "If I asked you to stay in the car, would you? Of course not." Edward said after both of us Swan girl's exited the car.
"You really think we would? We're nosy people by nature." I laughed at him.
The three of us started walking toward the school entrance. Where we saw Jake standing by his bike.
"Hey."
"Hey, Jakey." He gave me a side hug.
"Charlie said you left town."
"Yeah. To visit my mum. Why?"
"He's checking to see if you're still human."
"Jake, really?"
"Look I'm here to warn you. If your kind come on our land again."
"Wait. What?"
"You didn't tell her?" Jake looked at both Edward and me.
"Just leave it alone, Jacob."
"Tell me what?"
"Emmett and Paul had a misunderstanding. There's nothing to worry about."
"No one was hurt if that's what you're worried about Bells."
"Listen to you. Did you lie to get her out of town too?"
"Just leave. Now."
"She has the right to know. She's the one the redhead wants."
"Victoria. Alice's vision."
"What are you talking about? Is that why Paul wouldn't tell me why?"
"He was trying to protect you."
"I was trying to protect you." Jake and Edward said at the same time.
"By lying to me. Ok, we're going to talk about this but. You. Why haven't you called me back?"
"I had nothing to say." Jake then walked back over to his bike.

"Well, I have tons. Hold on."
"Hey. Bella."
"Edward, you have to trust me."
"I do trust you. It's him I don't trust."
Bella ignored him and hopped on the back of Jake's bike. They rode away together, much to Edwards's dismay.
"So does this mean I can skip school too?"
"No."
"Damn."
After school, Edward dropped me home and I had just unpacked my things when Paul, texted asking if I wanted to come over. Obviously, I said yes.
"So, how has my princess been?"
"I miss you too much."
"I'm a very irresistible person."
I scoff. "So full of yourself."
"You like me."
"I do. Although, Jake told me why you were so upset about Emmett. Why didn't you tell me that Victoria was around?"
"I was protecting you, I didn't want you to worry. I'm sorry."
"It's fine, I just don't want any secrets between us."
"Okay."
Paul and I went down to the beach and watched the sunset as we swam. We got invited to go over to Emily's for a small barbecue to celebrate the newest members of the pack.
Once he ate dinner, we all sat around the table and chatted about anything that came to mind.
My phone started ringing, I excused myself and left the house to answer the phone.
"Soph? Where are? Are you ok?"
"Bella I'm fine, I'm round Emily's house with Paul and the others. What's wrong?"
"Edward smelt someone in our house, a vampire. He said that whoever it was found what they were looking for. Sophie, they were in both our rooms."
"What!? Is dad okay? Did they take anything? You don't think it was Victoria do you?"
"Dad's fine, look just meet us at Edward's house."
"Yeah, I'm on my way."
I headed into the house. "Hey, is everything okay?"
"That was Bella, Edward said a vampire was just in our house. I have to go, I'll see you guys later."
"Wait, you can't go when there's a vampire loose."
"Look I'm meeting my sister at the Cullen's I'll text you when I get there okay."
"Okay."
I hopped into the truck and drove to the Cullen's house, where I was greeted by Esme and escorted to their lounge.
"Who is it? Someone, we know?"
"A stranger. I didn't recognise his scent."
"A nomad passing through?"
"A passer-by wouldn't have left Bella's and Sophie's father alive."
Jasper and Emmett entered the room. "The scent disappears about five miles south of their house."
"Someone's orchestrating this."
"Victoria?"
"I would have seen her decide."
"It has to be the Volturi."
"I don't think it's the Volturi either. I've been watching Aro's decisions too."
"So we keep looking."
"We'll also take shifts guarding Bella and Sophie at their house."
"Another protection detail?"
"Rosalie."
"No, she's right. You can't protect me, watch my dad and search for the intruder."
"And for Victoria."
"And keep yourselves fed."
"I'm not leaving you here defenceless."
"Well, I'm not gonna let you starve. And I wouldn't be unprotected, I...I have."
"What?"
"Jacob."
"Yeah, if it's any help, the pack could watch over our house and dad. They protect their area from Victoria while looking after Bella and me. I mean that way you guys can do all the other stuff."
"Well, I'm sure we can come up with some sort of agreement."
"You just want your boyfriend around longer."
"Shut up Emmett, just because you girls had a fight doesn't mean I'm mad at him."
"You really are taking his side over mine. We've been friends longer. If he didn't stop me I could've grabbed Victoria."
"I'm not taking his side, I'm merely stating facts. Oo speaking of the devil. OMG! I need to go."
"What happened?"
"Jared eating my cookies. I'm going to kill him." I stare in rage at the text Paul sent me.
I rushed out of the room and began walking down the stairs while calling Emily. "Hello?"
"Emily you tell Jared if he doesn't stop eating my cookies I'm going to tear his throat out."

Maybe with a bit of luck and planning, he can build a force to defend the world without anyone realizing it. Author's Thoughts: What is litRPG (From wikipedia) - LitRPG, short for Literary Role Playing Game, is a literary genre combining the conventions of MMORPGs with science-fiction fantasy novels.[1] LitRPG is a literary genre where games or game-like challenges form an essential part of the story. A LitRPG work simultaneously narrates the story of characters inside and outside of the game-world. At least some of the characters in a LitRPG novel therefore understand that they are playing a game: they are 'meta-aware'. So, while Tolkien's Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel, a book about people creating avatars and interacting in a Lord of the Rings MMORPG would be a LitRPG novel. Why do I read them? You know, I am not too sure. I love MMOs. I played them, quit them, joined up and repeated the cycle. They are fun! They are a massive waste of time but so are most games. Do I want to read about someone else playing them? Sort of?The advent of VR and the possibility of VR someday becoming so immersive that you can't tell them from reality sets the imagination on fire. What if this could be life? But most stories fall short. At the end of the day the protagonist hangs up his VR helmet and goes to have dinner with his mom and dad or other family and it becomes meaningless. It's like the story that ends because the main character woke up and nothing you read matters. There have been some books that explore the concept of the intersection of reality and total immersion VR. Enders Game is a classic. There were a few others that escape me but they exist, however, the cross between the game and reality is weak.So what if the game was real? The technology needed for total immersion VR is so advanced that by the time we reach that goal technology should have naturally evolved to include several items. You must have direct neural input. You simply can't have a total immersion (all senses and perfect presence) experience without this basic prerequisite. If you have direct neural access, you can probably do neat things like feed knowledge and skills directly to that person. You can undoubtedly do many horrible things as well. Muscles are controlled by the brain. If you control the brain why would you let the body just sit there and rot? A person that sits unmoving for 24 hours a day will have their body whither away just like a coma patient. However, if you control the brain you could control the muscles. On a basic level, this would be isometric impulses, working muscle group against muscle group to avoid atrophy. Taken to its logical conclusion you would be able to gain muscle mass and program muscle memory. The flip side is that you could remote control their body... but let's not go there. So what would people do if it were real? Well, they would probably limit and regulate it since the drawbacks are very obvious. Even if you look at the basic aspects of this you can see some negative possibilities. Look at the Sword Art Online anime. Personally, I think they missed the boat by putting a bomb in the VR helmet. Do you really need a bomb when you have direct access to the brain? So what kind of events would you need to have a situation where the obvious drawbacks haven't been explored? Maybe a society where the advancement of technology has so far outstripped the explorations of its applications that ignorance was truly bliss? Okay, so I had to put in an alien invasion to kickstart the premise, but that was just one of the possibilities.

Lady of Beasts
Magic has vanished from the modern world, relegated to 'biased accounts' and fairy tales. It has no place in the world of heroes and science. Or so the modern people thought. They would be proven wrong, as one of the eldest lineages of the magical world is revived, to once more aim for dominion over the world of magic and man. Update: 19.4.2021: Revised paragraph formatting to ease the reading experience. Feedback is appreciated! Update: 16.07.2021: The last chapter is written!
