《Reason to this madness (Jay Halstead x reader)》10 years later (32)

I was in the kitchen prepping everything for the barbecue this afternoon when I heard giggling from the living room and footsteps approaching me. I stifled a laugh and continued cooking like I didn't know what was about to happen.
"1,2,3." I heard Jay whispered behind me before he and our son jump scared me.
"Ahhh!" I clutched my heart and pretended to be scared as I watched the three most important people of my life giggling away.
I took Bella from Jay's arms. "Ok, now you mister go get Noah changed for the barbecue." I gave Jay a kiss. "I'll finish up here and then I'll get Bella dressed."
We then heard a knock on the door. "I'll get it!" Noah ran to the door. Jay ran after him.
I turned off the stove and made my way to the door with Bella in my arms. I saw Jay greeting Gabby and Casey. They saw me and came to hug me too.
"Hi Bella, come here big girl." Gabby extended her arms for Bella.
"Can you get her dressed, please? I set her dress on her bed." I asked Gabby.
"Of course I can, I would be a terrible godmother if I didn't wouldn't I?" Gabby baby talked to Bella while she headed upstairs.
I then turned and saw Casey and Noah running around the house. "Uncle Matt come see my new fire truck." Noah dragged Casey upstairs.
"Sorry dude, you're now officially in charge of getting him dressed." Jay shrugged. I playfully slapped Jay's arm.
I was gonna walk back to the kitchen but he wrapped his arm around me and dragged me back towards him. "Do you know I love you a lot?" Jay whispered in my ear.

"Some would say that's why you married me and you had 2 kids with me," I smirked at him.
"Ah, those little rascals? No way they're mine." Jay put his hands up defensively, teasing me.
"Oh yeah, I totally forgot about that other guy I've been sleeping with for the past six and a half years...." I teased back.
"Don't you dare!" Jay started running after me to the kitchen.
"Ok stop!" I yelled after I was out of breath. "You know you're the only guy for me." I walked up to Jay giving him a kiss.
"I better be." Jay laughed.
"We need to get this food out before everyone else gets here c, mon." I pointed at the food all over the kitchen.

Only an hour later our garden was filled with our friends/family. Noah was never bored when everyone was around since he had endless aunts and uncles to bother. Bella was also used to being passed around by everyone until she would eventually fall asleep in someone's arms and Jay would end up taking her back.
By evening all the kids were asleep in their rooms and only the adults were left outside. Some of the guys managed to get a fire going in our outdoor fireplace.
"Just like old times," Kelly said as he took a sip from his beer.
"I can't believe we're getting old." Kim pouted as she leaned back into Adams's arms holding her pregnant belly.
"Hey!" Mouch and Hermann yelled offended at the comment making everyone laugh.
"I think the best decision I've ever made was moving to Chicago," I told everyone. "I don't know where I would be if I hadn't come here."
"Sad and depressed honey, sad and depressed," Shay whispered making me laugh.

"I guess there really was a reason for all that madness in the beginning wasn't there?" Otis questioned.
"I guess there really was." Jay and I said in unison as we stared into each other's eyes.

I hope you guys enjoyed it! If you guys would be interested in me writing another One Chicago story please let me know.
P.S. I'm sorry the ending was a bit rushed but I'm going away for a while soon and I lose inspiration if I don't continually write so I wanted to finish up as fast as I could before going.

Midara: Requiem
"When the alternative is extinction, all acts, no matter how heinous, are permitted." The story of a little necromancer who only wants to play with abominations against all that is holy dollies and her horsey, Mister Clackybones. Welcome to the novelization of one script I designed for a video game setting I call Midara (I selected the name of a genus of moths for symbolism purposes, not to be confused with anything else). Once upon a time, I dreamed of the setting being the next Final Fantasy. Long story short: Nope. Requiem itself is meant to be an Open-World RPG which adapts to the choices of the player. This is just one of many, many paths that one might follow in Requiem's gameplay, if it ever becomes a game.

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.
