《Jay Halstead x Reader Story/Imagine》Christmas Special

Hank had given me a couple of days off after the whole fiasco. Jay wanted to stay home to make sure I was okay but insisted he got back to the work. In the end, he agreed to go back only for a couple of days and he'd take a couple of days off near the weekend.
"Alright, I've brought all of the decorations up from the unit downstairs, the tree is up, please do not strain yourself," Jay begged me as he put his coat on ready to head to work.
"Jay I'm fine, I promise I'll be careful." I leaned forward to give him a quick kiss.
"Call me if you need anything. I made reservations at Steak 48 tomorrow night." Jay smiled, it was his favorite place, but we would only go for special occasions and it was pretty hard to get a table.
"Okay." I laughed. "I'll plan an outfit after I finished decorating." I held the door open for him.
"Alright, see you later." He gave me another quick kiss.
"Love you." We both said in unison and he ran down.
_______
I connected my phone to the speaker and put on a Christmas playlist as I began the late process of decorating our Christmas tree. I was about halfway through wrapping the Christmas lights around the tree when I heard my phone ringing.
"Hello?" I picked up my phone not bothering to look at who was calling.
"Hey y/n it's Brett." I heard her voice.
I felt a wave of worry fill me, Brett and I got along but we mostly chatted at Molly's and I couldn't help but think the worst getting a call from her since it was unusual. "Hey, is everything okay?" I dropped the lights and sat on the couch.
"Yeah, no everything's fine. I just needed a chat and I remembered you were home." She sounded flustered.
"Oh yeah of course, what's up?"
"Tensions are just super high at the firehouse right now, Gabby is gone and Kelly and Stella are fighting, Boden's all stressed about Grisom. He's changed our calendar and now we have to come in on Christmas Eve. I feel like I have no one to talk to."
"I'm sorry Brett, I asked Casey if they needed any help with the Boden situation but he told me they'd sort it out and just know you can call and come over any time. So who's cooking on Christmas Eve?"

"Thanks y/n. Uhmm, not sure, Cindy offered to come in but Hermann told her to stay with the kids. I guess we'll just have some leftovers." I heard the alarm on her side. "I gotta go, thanks for the chat."
"Alright, be safe." I managed to say before she hung up.
_____
I continued decorating the tree but I couldn't stop thinking about what Brett had told me. I knew that the guys at 51 were having a rough time and I knew I wouldn't feel comfortable dining at one of the best restaurants in Chicago while my fire family was having leftovers.
I was making some hot cocoa when I heard the door open. "Baby I'm home." I heard Jay's voice.
"Hey, how was your day?" I moved into view as he took off his coat and belt.
"Good." He walked over, pulling me into his chest and giving me a kiss. I said nothing else and just kept looking up at him. "What's wrong?" I loved that he knew me so well.
"Uhmm, nothing." I didn't want to bring it up right now, I turned to keep stirring the chocolate.
"Spit it out." He encouraged me.
"Brett called today." I started, shutting off the stove.
"And-" Jay crossed his arms over his chest and leaned back on the kitchen counter.
"Well, it seems like Grisom is grinding them pretty hard and he's making them take the Christmas Eve shift, and I was thinking-"
"You want us to spend Christmas Eve at the firehouse." Jay finished for me.
My smile grew wider. "Yeah, but only if you're okay with it, I know Steak 48 is your favorite place and-" I began. He started walking towards me and pulled me into his chest by my waist.
"Yes." He didn't let me finish but smiled.
"Yeah?" I felt my smile grow even wider.
"Of course, I owe them big time, and I know how happy this will make you and that's all I want, for you to be happy."
"You're the best you know that?" I hugged him a little tighter. He kissed my forehead.
_____
Jay and I had gone to the grocery store to get a bunch of Christmas movies, food, snacks, and drinks, to take to the firehouse tonight.
I started preparing a Turkey when we got home and as I let it cook Jay and I got everything ready to head to the firehouse. We put on a matching pair of Christmas pajamas Jay had bought us and we were ready to go.

I quickly packed the turkey and Jay helped me carry it down and then he drove us to the firehouse. Once we got there Mouch was watching Tv and it was pretty dark. I assumed everyone was sleeping.
"Hey Mouch," I whispered.
"Hey honey, what are you doing here?" he asked surprised walking over to greet both Jay and me.
"Brett told me you guys were working tonight, we brought you all a surprise." Jay and I sat all of the bags full of goodies in the kitchen.
"Oh, you guys didn't have to..." I could tell Mouch was excited.
"Honestly man, it's our pleasure." Jay wrapped his arm around my waist pulling me to his side.
____
We set everything out on the table, put on Home alone on the Tv and Mouch went over to wake everyone up. "What smells so good?" I could hear Otis's voice as everyone approached.
"Merry Christmas guys," I shouted out as soon as they came into view.
Everyone's eyes scanned the table, their mouths watering at what we had prepared. "No way!" A couple of cheers erupted from everyone. Jay received pats on the back from everyone while I received tight hugs.
The food didn't last long but the happiness in everyone's eyes was enough for me. "Okay everyone, can I just get your attention," Boden spoke up from the end of the table. "On behalf of everyone here I'd like to thank you both for doing this for us, I'm sure you both had a lovely evening planned, but you took the time to bring this to us. I hope you know we will forever be grateful for everything you do for us, and may God bless you both always." Boden lifted his cup.
"Here here." Hermann joined as soon did everyone else.
Jay and I shared a glance, happy at what our first Christmas as newlyweds was. After dinner, the Tv was surrounded as the leftover snacks were passed and home alone played. I snuggled my back into Jay's chest as we took a spot on the couch.
The alarm bells rang all the guys were called to an accident but I could tell they weren't bothered about it, their stomachs were full and they were ready. "Please, go home, you've already made this night special for all of us." Boden gave Jay and me a wink as he joined the guys.
"Thank you for tonight." I looked up at Jay once we were alone.
"Hey, this beats any night at Steak 48." he played with my hair.
I laughed. "Yeah, but we're still going, I managed to get a reservation for tomorrow, there's no way I was taking that away from you," I revealed.
"And that's why I married you." Jay squeezed me tighter earning a giggle from me.
"Let's go home then." I got up pulling him with me.
____
Once we got home I was ready to tuck into bed. "Wait I have a present for you." Jay pulled a box out of his bedside drawer.
"Oh, I do too," I remembered pulling out an envelope from my purse.
"Me first." Jay handed me my present.
I started unwrapping it. I pulled out a photo album with 'Our Story' engraved on the center, and along with the album, there was a stack of photos of Jay and me as well as our friends and family. "I thought this is something we could compile together, a gift that we could both give our kids when they're older."
I felt myself tear up slightly. "It's perfect, I love it." I placed my hand on Jay's cheek pulling him in gently for a kiss. "Thank you, baby." I set my present aside.
"Here." I passed him the envelope.
"What's this?" Jay furrowed his brows slightly. He was about to hold the envelope up to the light but I stopped him.
"No peeking!" I laughed.
Jay tore the envelope open and I saw his eyes light up immediately. "No way!" He jumped up off the bed.
My smile grew wider seeing his excitement. "It's not until next year but It's the best I could find."
"Two tickets for a Chicago Bears game, the best seats! This is the best gift ever!" Jay jumped back on the bed.
I couldn't help but laugh. "I'm so happy you like it."
Jay set the tickets down and wrapped his arms around me, rolling me on top of him and hugging me tightly. "This is the best Christmas ever." He rolled me back beside him and gave me a deep kiss.
"I agree." I wrapped my arms around him too.
"It could get even better though." He wiggled his eyebrows up and down as he leaned over to shut off the lights.
"You're on the naughty list after tonight." I laughed, I couldn't wipe the smile off my face.

Magic system vaguely similar to GameLit ones (no system nor interface to help), with certain elements that are a bit more analogue. Politics, war, looming apocalypse, a tiny dash of kingdom building, and a minor bit of crafting. There is a bit of a progression element as well as both environmental and cultural exploration. The story follows two youths more directly influenced by aforementioned Elder beings than most. Neither lead cares for politics but certain situations force them into participating, forcing them to make decisions that shape their morality.
