《Jay Halstead x Reader Story/Imagine》(34. Lexie Olinsky ✞)

Jay and I were having dinner at a Pizzeria when we both got a text on our phones from Erin.
: Get to Med asap, It's Lexie
The text read. Jay and I turned to look at each other, concern filling our eyes. We both got up and ran out. Jay hopped into the driver's seat and we rushed to the hospital.
We then started hearing a lot of communication through the radio about a warehouse fire and all of the bodies they had pulled out.
I took out my phone and texted Kelly.
Hey Sev, hope you're okay, heading to Med now. Let me know if you guys need backup.
I sent. I didn't expect him to return my text any time soon but it gave me peace of mind knowing he would see it once he had a minute.
We pulled up at Med and Jay and I ran out of the car and straight into the E.R. We got there at the same time as Meredith and once we walked in we watched as Will made an incision on the side of Lexie's body. Al and Meredith watching in horror.
Jay and I turned to look at each other, tears welling up in my eyes. Boden grabbed Meredith keeping her from going into the room but also giving her a feeling of comfort and support.
"Close the curtains!" Will ordered a nurse as we all watched. He gave Jay and me a nod letting us know he was gonna do everything he could before the curtains shut.
I put my arm around Meredith as we walked back to the waiting room which was packed with injured teenagers and worried parents. I found a seat for Meredith and looked around noticing the nurses doing everything they could to attend to each patient.
"Jay I need to help, let me know if you need me," I told him and he too acknowledged the need for help.
"Alright, be careful." He kissed my forehead.
"Fetch Meredith some tea," I asked him.
"I will." He gave me a very faint smile.
I walked over to Maggie. "Thank God honey, please take these." She handed me some gauze and disinfectant before I even spoke. "These are the non-critical patients, we just need to dress their wounds while we wait for more beds to open up." She let me know.

"Okay." I nodded and walked to a corner of the room where the nurses hadn't reached yet. Even though I was treating as many people as I could I couldn't help but worry for Lexie, turning every once in a while to see the worry in Al and Meredith's faces.
I had just finished dressing a young girl's wound when I got a text. I took out my phone.
❤️🔥I'm alright, just finished up. Heard about Olinsky's daughter, heading to Med now.
I sighed relieved that he was safe, I put my phone away and continued helping to try to keep my mind distracted.
——————-
I had helped as much as I could, but listening to all of these teenagers' and parents' stories was proving very heavy. I headed to the bathroom to wash up and take a breath. I was about to walk out when Natalie walked in. "Hey." I greeted her.
"Hi." She looked exhausted and worried too.
"How are you?" I asked her. I wasn't quite sure what to say.
"Tired, sad, angered. This is crazy, How could someone do something like this?" She asked rhetorically.
"I know, I don't get it either and I see it every day." we shared a look of sadness.
"How's Al doing?" She asked me.
"He's trying to stay strong for Mer, but I know him, he's a mess." I felt my eyes water.
"She's not looking good, we..." She took a deep breath. "We don't think she's gonna make it." She let me know.
My breath hitched. I felt a few tears roll down my cheeks. "Have you told them yet?" I asked her trying to keep my composure but feeling like the tears wouldn't stop.
She shook her head and walked forward to hug me. I let myself cry a little before washing up. Natalie left having to keep attending to patients.
I walked out and Kelly was already there, I saw him talking to Hank and Jay. "Alright, guys we're rolling out," Hank told the team.
I nodded, Jay, passing me my jacket. I quickly gave Kelly a tight hug. "I'm glad you're okay," I whispered to him, he smelt strongly of smoke.
"Please be careful Bare." He hugged me back tightly.
"I will, I'll text you later." I kissed him on the cheek before walking away with Jay.

We were able to get a lot of leads to follow, all of us doing the best we could to get to the bottom of this. We ended up getting to a name, Delano. We were all working but it only got harder and harder as we all saw how the pictures of victims in critical condition kept getting passed over to the board with pictures of the deceased victims.
I kept looking at Lexi's picture knowing it wasn't my place to say anything but also feeling completely heavy for carrying something so delicate.
"Hey, you alright?" Jay noticed me spacing out.
"What else do you have?" I ignored his question.
He acknowledged the fact that I didn't answer but decided not to push it. "This guy from the video, Kim figured out that this jacket and this brand only manufactured a certain amount so we're following the lead now trying to get names, credit card information.
Jay and I were preparing to follow a lead when Hank walked out of his office. "Everyone, Lexie...she passed away." He told us.
I took a deep breath feeling myself tear up but I knew I had to keep my composure. The air in the room was heavy and all of us shared a minute of silence. I watched as Erin passed Lexi's photo to the deceased board.
I was trying hard to keep myself together.
_________
Jay and I had come back from following yet another lead.
Kim walked up then. "Hey guys, tonight there's gonna be a candle-lit vigil at the warehouse." She let us know.
We all nodded knowing we were all heading there tonight. I stood up. "The killer might be there tonight so we should keep our eyes peeled." I thought about it.
"You think the killer's gonna show?" Kev questioned.
"It's very possible, maybe trying to see how much destruction he caused." Erin agreed with me.
"Alright, tonight I want everyone to set up at different spots, eyes out for the jacket and the tattoo," Hank instructed us.
____
It was time for all of us to head to the vigil. We all stood there with our candles paying our respects to the victims but keeping a lookout for any suspicious activity at the same time. I was staring at a picture of Lexi when I heard some shuffling. I turned and noticed the jacket.
I discretely approached my hand up to my mouth. "I've got eyes on the killer," I whispered. "3 people to my right."
"Alright, Jay he's headed in your direction." I heard Erin say. I shuffled my way past the crowd trying to remain calm not to cause a scene.
We saw the suspect speed up trying to get away but we had the block covered, he walked into an alleyway where we trapped him. Hank pointing a gun in his face. Jay and I were next to each other, watching but knowing Hank wasn't gonna pull the trigger.
Kev walked over and arrested him.
_____
Back at the station, Hank told us all to head home. Jay and I were both pretty silent on our ride back home and once we got upstairs I felt the exhaustion hit, just collapsing on the couch.
"You alright?" Jay asked as he was hanging up his coat.
And it was like the realization hit me that I was finally 'alone', that I no longer had to keep it together. I dropped my head down to my hands and started crying, sobbing. Jay rushed over to me pulling me into his arms.
"That was so hard," I said in between sobs.
"I know...I know." Jay comforted me. "But it's over now, we've done Lexi and those teens some justice."
I didn't care if I looked like a mess right now, I felt safe with Jay, in his arms, like I could simply let go and he was right there to catch me. After a while, I felt myself drifting off to sleep because of the exhaustion, Jay still not letting go of me.
After a while, I felt Jay get up and lift me bridal style, and a couple of seconds later I felt the soft surface of the bed. He pulled off my shoes and took my jacket off before covering me with the duvet and letting me rest.
I felt him kiss my cheek. "I love you, baby, I got you," he whispered in my ears and a small smile tugged at the corner of my mouth.
