《Jay Halstead x Reader Story/Imagine》(25. Polly)

Jay and I were driving around trying to find a place to eat when we heard a call for shots fired on the radio. After hearing the location I quickly reached for the radio and letting them know Jay and I were close and on our way.
Once we got to the location a man directed us to the right house and Jay and I made our way inside. I led the way holding my gun up high announcing us and clearing the house with Jay directly behind it.
I was left completely shocked by the scene I saw in the living room, a whole family shot dead, blood and bullets everywhere. Jay and I began lowering our guns when we saw one of the bodies move.
Jay and I both raised our weapons again trying to make out if the victim was alive or if it was something else when we saw a little girl emerge from under the body covered in blood that wasn't hers.
"Sweetie, are you hurt?" I asked the girl putting my hand back gesturing to Jay to put his gun down as I holstered mine.
She was in shock, didn't say a word, looked pale and terrified. "We're the police, you're okay now." Jay and I started approaching slowly trying to scare the terrified young girl.
"I'm gonna come close so I can see if you're hurt." Jay started approaching when suddenly the girl's eyes rolled back and she fell forward, Jay catching her just in time.
"This is 50-21 Trent, send an ambulance to our location, we have a young girl, injuries unknown." I quickly called into my radio.
Jay and I tried to look for injuries on the girl's body but we couldn't find anything. "Let's get her outside," Jay told me. Carrying her and walking out.
I followed him out and we heard the ambulance coming.
____
Jay and I were in the hospital, I was sitting in the waiting room waiting for any updates on the young girl. Jay had just hung up on the phone getting information from Mouse.
"He said that was the Carlson family, Parents Jeni, and Darren, three daughters, and one son, he thinks this is their youngest daughter Polly. Adam and Al are following a lead right now, Hank wants us to stick with her to get info when she wakes up." Jay told me.

"Yeah, and in case someone comes to finish the job," I added. "This part of the job will never get easier." I sighed putting myself in Polly's shoes.
"WE NEED YOUR HELP!" A nurse stopped as she was running past us. Jay and I looked at each other confused before following after her.
We got to a hallway where security and a couple of nurses were gathered. Jay and I looked down and saw Polly at the end of it holding a knife, looking completely terrified.
I watched as the nurses filled a syringe with something and start charging forward. "NO wait." I stopped her. I started approaching Polly slowly, my hands extended out to show her I wasn't trying to hurt her. "Polly, sweetheart, you have to put the knife down." I tried talking to her.
"y/n" Jay tried to stop me from getting too close.
"Jay, it's fine." I quickly told him. "Polly, we're not gonna hurt you, we're the police, we want to help you, okay honey..." I talked calmly to her, I saw her start to lower the knife.
Before I could stop it, two nurses had appeared from behind, grabbing Polly aggressively and shoving a needle in her arm. She started screaming. "NO! What are you doing!" I tried walking forward to stop them but Jay had grabbed my arm stopping me. Dr.Charles now standing next to him.
"What was that for?" Jay asked him annoyed.
"I was just doing my job, she's a danger to herself and others, you can talk to her once she's awake in an hour or two," he told us. I felt really angry but walked away trying to calm myself.
Jay followed after me. "y/n it's fine, we'll talk to her once she's awake."
"No! Jay! It's not fine, this poor girl watched her whole family get killed, hid under her brother's dead body, passed out in shock, she obviously is having a hard time trusting anyone! But right there-" I pointed at the hallway. "she was finally lowering her guard, all for them to hurt her again!" I told Jay annoyed.
"I'm sorry." Jay sighed looking down at his feet.
"Don't it's not your fault." I sighed and looked down too. "I'm sorry for screaming at you, I wasn't really screaming at you but at the situation." I tried to explain.

I plopped down on one of the chairs in the waiting room feeling slightly defeated. Jay sitting next to me after, putting his arm around me as we waited once again.
______
A couple of hours later we were chatting with Polly, Dr.Charles was there with us. She seemed more comfortable talking to Jay and me so I asked Dr.Charles if it was okay for him to leave us which he reluctantly agreed.
"You guys found me didn't you?" Polly asked us.
"Yeah, we did," Jay answered softly.
"You carried me out of there, I remember." Polly talked to Jay.
"Yeah, I did. Polly, do you mind if we ask you a few questions?" Jay slowly approached Polly's bed.
She nodded. "Polly, do you remember what happened? Maybe remember the person who did this to your family?" I began asking.
I saw her breath hitch slightly. "We have to go to the house." That was all she said.
Chatting with Polly was hard, she really didn't tell us much apart from how much she wanted to go to a house. A house she wouldn't stop mentioning but which we knew nothing of.
____
We let Polly rest for a bit while we asked Mouse to investigate anything about the house. A while later Antonio had called us letting us know that there was indeed a house at a lake which could be the one Polly was talking about.
It took a while for us to be able to gather enough evidence for an arrest, but as soon as we did I think Polly had enough for everything to sink in, bursting down in tears in my arms.
I held her letting her process the ugly reality, Jay walking forward and placing a hand on my back letting me know he was there.
After Polly pulled away I just saw her eyes shift from me to Jay a couple of time. "You guys remind me of my parents." She said.
Jay and I smiled slightly. "Should we go?" Jay asked her.
She nodded and extended her hands out for Jay and I to take them. She turned to Jay "You should ask her to be your girlfriend." Polly told him making me giggle.
"Guess what?" Jay jokingly whispered loudly to her.
"What?" Polly now had a wide smile.
"She's already my girlfriend." He finished giving her a wink making Polly giggle.
The rest of the ride to the precinct was full of giggle of Polly asking Jay and I questions about our relationship. I waited with Polly for her relatives to arrive and at the same time they did Jay hd walked down.
Before Polly left she ran back to give us both a tight hug. "Hey Jay." She whispered to him when he was hugging her.
"What honey?" He asked her pulling out of the hug to look at her.
"You should ask her to Marry you." she finished with a side smirk.
"Guess what?" Jay asked her looking up at me for a second before leaning into her ear whispering something that I couldn't hear.
Polly's smile grew wider before covering her mouth as if trying to hold back a big secret that wanted to slip out. I squinted my eyes at Jay wondering what he said as Polly ran back to her family.
"Bye!" She hollered before leaving.
Both Jay and I waved her goodbye. I turned to look at him. "What d'you tell her?" I asked him.
"Hmm, that's between Polly and I." He smirked giving me a wink this time and starting to walk up the stairs teasing me.
"Mhm." I laughed at him putting my hand over the code pad stopping him from opening the door. I mad sure no one was looking before I walked closer to him getting my lips extremely close to him and grabbing his hand placing it on my lower waist.
"What are you doing?" He whispered a smile creeping on his lips. I put the code in the number pad.
His breath hitched waiting for a kiss. "Fine by me." I breathed before opening the door and running upstairs teasing him back.
"Oh come on!" He grunted frustrated running upstairs behind me making me laugh.
