《Jay Halstead x Reader Story/Imagine》(5. Bounty)

During these past few weeks, I had been helping Nadia out with her cop work. My leg was all fine now and all I had to remember that day was a huge scar.
I admired Nadia, not only was she able to overcome an addiction but she had really stepped up and I could see her effort in trying to become a better person.
We had just wrapped up from a heavy investigation involving a close friend of Hank. Once again I had stayed back to help Nadia when I heard Alvin get a phone call.
"I'll be right there." He said and walked out of the office fast.
Jay was packing some stuff up. I decided to make a move and walk over to start a conversation. "You alright? I heard it was a heavy case." I hopped onto Erin's desk in front of his.
"Yeah I'm fine, you know just another day in the job." He sighed grabbing his jacket and putting it on.
"You know you don't always have to lie, everyone has bad days, especially us." I tried to get him to open up.
"Well, what if I told you I wasn't fine? What would you do then?" He smirked and walked over to me.
I felt myself blushing and looked down. "Well I would probably ask you out for a drink at Molly's to get you to open up."
"Oh really?" He reached for a pen behind me making me blush harder. "Well in that case you're right, I was lying, I'm not okay, not okay at all." He faked a sob causing me to laugh.
"Well then Halstead, Would you like to go to Molly's with me?" I stepped off and I was now standing in front of him our bodies almost touching.
He hesitated for a second bringing his finger up to his chin. I shoved him lightly. " I would love to y/l/n" he finally replied.
"Ok let me go grab my stuff." I walked over to my desk. "Hey I asked Jay out, so do you mind if I leave early?" I began
"Oh my god no, go." Nadia's smile was almost as big as mine. I gave her a kiss on the cheek and met Jay by the stairs.
We both walked down and he opened the gate for me.
"Ok so I'll meet you there?" I asked him taking my car keys out.

"I thought I could drive you and then maybe I could take you home after?" He asked casually.
"Well how would I get to work tomorrow?" we continued walking.
"You could spend the night at my place" he looked down at his feet.
"Ahh." Was all I could think of saying.
We started walking down the front steps.
"Hey! Where are you two going?" Trudy yelled.
"Oh god no, run." I grabbed Jay's arm and pulled him with me outside as quickly as possible.
"I'm watching you, Halstead!" Trudy yelled before the door shut behind us.
Both Jay and I started laughing as we got in his car.
_____
Instead of driving us to Molly's Jay took us to another bar he said was less crowded. I could sense myself getting more and more nervous as we got closer.
We got to the bar and unlike Jay said, it was still pretty crowded, except for the fact that not all of our friends were here.
"A beer for me and whatever she wants," Jay spoke to the bartender who was a really pretty girl.
"A beer for me too please," I told her.
"I haven't seen you here in a while." The bartender shot a flirty smile at Jay as she passed him a beer.
I awkwardly cleared my throat and the bartender walked away. "So who's she?" I asked trying not to sound intrusive.
"Just someone I know, kinda like Kelly for you." Jay sipped his beer.
"There's nothing going on between us! We're friends." I nodded.
"Who kiss and go on dates?" Before I could answer he got a call from someone. "It's Alvin can you give me a sec." He asked me hopping off his stool.
"Go ahead."
I continued sipping my beer while I waited for Jay and I saw out of the corner of my eye the bartender glaring at me. I then felt a hand on my back. "y/n we have to go now." I could tell Jay was worried.
"What why? What happened? Is Alvin ok?" I started worrying.
"y/n there's a bounty on my head and I can't have you with me, not while this is going on, I have to get you home right now." I tried to process what he was telling me.
"Woah Jay what?, but-" Before I could ask him for more information I saw a man enter the bar with a huge gun in his hand. "Jay! Everyone get down!" I grabbed Jay's arm and pulled him to the floor with me as the man started shooting.

I pulled my gun out began shooting back but I wasn't able to hit the guy.
I saw the bartender drop to the ground after getting hit. I tried to move towards her but Jay had now grabbed me and was holding me against his chest using his body as a shield. Finally after what felt like hours the shooting stopped.
"y/n are you ok?" Jay shouted turning me around and placing his hands on my cheeks while inspecting my whole body.
"I'm fine but Jay-" I pried myself off his grip and ran to the girl putting pressure on the bullet hole in her body. "Hold on, you're gonna be fine." I tried to reassure her.
Jay looked at both of us in shock. "Jay! Call an ambulance," I shouted at him and he quickly took his phone out.
____
We got to the hospital and Maggie insisted on me getting checked for any injuries. After I was cleared I went to meet Jay in the waiting room and saw Trudy was there except calmer than I expected her to be.
"Everything's fine guys, not hurt...like I said." I got their attention.
Trudy got up and gave me a big hug. "I hope you didn't make him feel any worse than he already does," I whispered in Trudy's ear.
"C, mon I'm not that much of a bitch." She answered back earning an unconvinced look from me.
I then hugged Jay. "How are you doing?" I asked him knowing he wasn't doing good.
"I could've killed you." He said as he pulled out of the hug.
"You? You didn't do anything Jay, you were only doing your job and this is some sicko who doesn't understand that. None of this is your fault, Jay. You know that right?" I put a comforting hand on his upper arm.
He didn't say anything and simply looked down at his hands.
"C, mon let's get you two out of here," Trudy told us.
"Wait I need to stay and see how she's doing." Jay pointed back at the ER.
"Jay I asked Maggie to keep us updated, there's nothing else we can do now except keep you safe." I insisted.
He reluctantly nodded and walked out with us.
"Jay it isn't safe for you to be at your house right now, Voight organized for a safe house so we're driving y/n home, and then I'm driving you to the safe house," Trudy explained to Jay.
I could tell he was about to protest. I placed my hand on his. "Jay, please." was all I said and he relaxed.
When we got to my apartment I turned to look at Jay. "I'm sorry about tonight." He apologized.
"Don't be, I told you it's not your fault. You're gonna be ok, just please promise me you won't try to do something stupid." I asked him.
He sighed before nodding.
I reached over to give him a hug and as we pulled out he gave me a kiss on the cheek. "Good night." We both said at the same time.
I hopped out and waved goodbye as they drove off.
As much as I wanted to be with Jay through this I knew I couldn't contact him while he was under protection. Texting him or calling him was no use, not now at least.
____
I was making breakfast when I heard a knock on my door. I instinctively grabbed my gun and walked silently to the door. I looked through the peephole and it was Jay.
I quickly put my gun away and opened it. "Jay? What are you doing? Shouldn't you be hiding?" I asked him pulling him inside and shutting the door.
"Hey, calm down, The bounty is off, I'm all good." He sighed extending his arms out for a hug.
"Wait how?" I hugged him.
"Voight and Al, I don't know how they do it and I don't want to. I'm just glad it's over." he laughed. "I was wondering if you'd wanna come with me to the hospital?" He looked down at his feet.
"C, mon, let's go." I answered him shooting him a smile and extending my hand out. He took it and we both walked hand in hand out to my car.
Jay and I spent the night in the hospital waiting for news on his friend. We fell asleep leaning on each other in the waiting room.

Meek
After failing as an apprentice cooper and a town guard, Eli finds his place at the Rockbridge archives. Sure, he's the oldest 'junior scribe,' but he likes the job. And he's good at it, too. Then he completes an apparently-insignificant project, and the brutal reaction shocks him--with consequences that eventually shake the world. Eli gains powers. Rare and inhuman abilities. He progresses slowly, steadily, and not without setbacks. He changes, too. Is he a hero, a villain, a human, a monster? Depends who you ask. Meek is an epic fantasy with elements of progression. The basic magic is simple: five Paths, each with a different powerset. However, complexity arises from combinations, and the protagonist wields a magic all his own. Meek is set in the Valley, the only (as far as anyone knows) human empire that survived a Final Battle against a terrible foe. The Valley is warded against infiltration, but the enemy learned how to warp human souls, to foment discord within. However, another soul is also ... changed. Perhaps even 'warped.' And that soul is starting on a long (long, long) path that might, one day, prove that the Final Battle wasn't so final after all.
