《Everything Inbetween Bones [BxB] ✓》Chapter 39

Logan sat at the table with his dads, picking at his grilled cheese. He'd spent most of the day in his room working on an essay for history. He would have spent his Saturday with Oliver, but Oliver was at work until 7 and Logan figured he'd be too tired after work to hang out. His dads had insisted on having dinner together because they were home early, and Matthew had made lasagna (166). Logan didn't like lasagna so Matthew made him a grilled cheese (400) instead, which he also couldn't eat, but it was fine, he'd talk so much, and drink so much water that they'd forget he didn't take a bite of it, and they'd forget he didn't eat lunch or breakfast either, and he'd forget that he was ever hungry at all. His plan wasn't exactly fool proof, but he couldn't think of a better one.
He hadn't felt like eating lately, he just couldn't make himself do it with everything going on in his head the past few days. He hadn't talked to Sy about Jace, or anyone else for that matter, and he knew bottling it up was a bad idea, but he didn't really have anyone to tell. He didn't want to accidentally out Jace or make Sy mad if he didn't want anyone knowing. He usually told Oliver things, but this wasn't one of those things.
"Oliver hasn't been coming over much, you guys aren't arguing or anything, are you?" Matthew asked and Logan shook his head with a little smile, taking a sip of his water.
"He's just at work today, we've both been busy lately, but we hang out at school." Logan said. They'd been hanging out when they could, sometimes they'd go over to Oliver's apartment, or Oliver would come over, but Logan sometimes wondered if Oliver wanted more from him, not that Oliver would ever push him to do anything he wasn't comfortable with, but it'd been a few weeks since they started dating and they hadn't gone past making out. Logan just sometimes felt like he wasn't doing enough for Oliver.
"Maybe we could take him out for dinner sometime." Allen said and Logan groaned.
"Papa, please tell me you're not going to take him out just to interrogate him all evening."
"No, he won't, because we know and trust Oliver." Matthew said, glancing over at his husband.
"As a friend." Allen said.
"Allen." Matthew said, looking over at him pointedly and Allen smiled.
"Yes, darling?"
"You absolutely cannot scare him away, you're sleeping in the guest bedroom for the rest of your life if you do."
"I'm sure Oliver wouldn't be scared of a few, very standard, questions." Allen said, taking a sip of his whiskey. Matthew sighed, running his fingers through his graying chocolate hair.
"What about next weekend, sunday maybe?" Matthew suggested.
"I'll ask him." Logan said with a small smile.
"Good, tell him we'll pay...maybe we could go to that one place we love so much, Citrus House? Oh, it's a lovely little restaurant and the outdoor seating is absolutely stunning." Allen said and Matthew grinned.
"It's been so long since we've gone on a date there, maybe we could get two tables and let the boys sit together." Matthew said.

"Wouldn't that kind of defeat the point of going out together so you can talk to him?" Logan asked with a quiet laugh.
"You're right, but next time." Matthew said and Allen gave a hum of agreement while he ate his lasagna.
"How has school been going?" Matthew asked and Logan tore off a piece of the grilled cheese, shrugging.
"It's going okay, just the normal stuff...the play's coming up soon." He said.
"Oh, I'd love to see it, they're doing Alice in Wonderland this year, right?" Matthew asked and Logan nodded.
"What are you doing in the play?" Allen asked.
"Set design mostly, I just asked if I could help with set design and maybe some other painting for props and if I could still watch the play and Mrs. Abernathy said that would be fine, so that's just what I did." He said with a small smile.
"Well I can't wait to go and see what you painted." Matthew said and Logan smiled brighter. He wanted his dads to be proud of him for the things he'd worked on and they didn't always have time to come to his events. "Now eat your food, sweetie, you've been picking at it all dinner." Matthew said and Logan's smile faltered a little.
"I'm not really that hungry." He said.
"What have you eaten today?" Allen asked and Logan took a breath.
"Uh..I had an apple earlier for lunch, and some cereal and coffee for breakfast and..I think some popcorn earlier too..I can't remember everything." Liar. Matthew sighed and seemed to consider it for a moment.
"Is there anything else you'll eat?" He asked and Logan shrugged.
"Toast maybe." He said quietly.
"That's not dinner." Allen said.
"But it's better than nothing." Matthew said, sounding a bit tired of the conversation. "Go ahead, if you make it yourself then I suppose I can let it slide this once." Logan got up and grabbed the bread (90) out of the pantry, popping a piece in the toaster. He wondered to himself if cooking something added calories, and that sounded insane, but was it possible? What if bread was just way more calories than he thought and the label on the back was lying? He didn't put any butter on it, but neither of his dads said anything. He just walked back to the table and sat down, eating his toast and then excusing himself to his room as it was getting a bit late and he wanted to call Oliver before he went to sleep.
He sat on his bed, looking at the contact for a while. He knew he shouldn't be scared of calling Oliver first, they were dating, it wasn't a big deal, Oliver said Logan could call him whenever he wanted before, but he was still nervous. He tapped the call icon and listened as it rang a few times. Oliver picked up on the fourth ring.
"Hey, Bear, what's up?" Logan smiled at the sound of his boyfriend's voice through the phone.
"Hey, I just wanted to call and talk to you I guess.." he said, reaching up to scratch the back of his neck.
"Aww, miss me already? It's only been a couple days since you've seen me." Oliver said and Logan could tell he was grinning.

"You're very missable." Logan said and Oliver chuckled.
"You're cute."
"Am not."
"Agree to disagree." Oliver said and Logan giggled.
"Hey, would you wanna go out to dinner with me and my dads next week on sunday? They'd pay and everything, the place they want to go is really great, apparently the outdoor seating is nice." Logan said, biting his lip as Oliver paused a few moments.
"Yeah, I think I can do sunday. Is this the standard 'you are now dating my son so I have to meet you and make sure you're acceptable' type thing?"
"Yeah, I tried to get papa to ease off you, but it doesn't look like he's going to. Prepare to be grilled."
"Noted. Where are we eating?"
"Citrus House, I think?"
"Isn't that place super expensive?"
"My dads are paying, so you can get whatever you want." Logan said.
"Just as long as I don't have to order in french." Oliver said and Logan giggled.
"Why would you have to order in french?"
"Fancy places are always french." Oliver said as if it were obvious. "You should know this, I'm sure you've been to plenty of them."
"I actually hate crazy expensive restaurants, I feel like everyone's watching me, it's weird...maybe I just don't like restaurants in general."
"I don't think anyone actually cares enough to be staring at you, they've just got their own things to do and worry about, and it's not like you're staring at anyone else, so why would they be looking at you?" Oliver asked.
"I dunno, maybe I'm just so weird that people have to stare at me."
"Or maybe everyone's leaning over to their friends going 'woah, who's that cute boy over there with the scary looking dude?'" Oliver said and Logan blushed, giggling quietly.
"Oh shut it, if anything, they'd be staring at you, you're like..perfect or something, and ridiculously attractive." Logan said softly, a little smile on his face.
"I don't think so, that's a bit of a reach." Oliver said, a smile in his voice.
"No it's not, I see the way girls look at you.." Logan said, his voice losing some of the playfulness and Oliver paused.
"Do I need to remind you how not into girls I am?" Oliver asked teasingly and Logan smiled a little.
"But you're just..I dunno, it's stupid-"
"What is?" Oliver asked.
"You're just out of my league I guess, you always have been." Logan said.
"Who cares about all that, I-"
"I do..you could do better than me."
"I don't want to, you're what I want. You're talented, and creative, and fucking brilliant, everyone loves you, you're adorable, how could I possibly be out of your league?" Oliver asked with a chuckle and Logan stayed quiet a long while.
"But what if I don't meet up to your expectations."
"Then I'll get new expectations."
"What if I don't meet up to any expectations, what if I'm like..a horrible person, and mean, and stupid, and ugly?" Logan asked. "You'd hate me."
"But you're none of those things, so why are you worried about it?" Oliver asked.
"What if you just don't know me that well?" Logan mumbled.
"I know that you're scared of being a horrible person, and horrible people aren't scared of being horrible. Good people do bad things too, bear. And what have I said about talking negatively about yourself?"
"That it will only make me feel worse and I shouldn't say things about myself that I wouldn't about other people...but that's not fair because all the things I say are true."
"No they're not, and you still wouldn't say them about a friend." Oliver said and Logan stared at his wall for a few moments. He felt like they were fighting even though he knew they weren't. He wondered if sometimes Oliver wished he could just be normal.
"Yeah, I know..sorry." He said quietly.
"I'm not mad at you." Oliver said.
"I know."
"But you sound upset."
"I'm not upset." Logan said, his words coming out harsher than he intended them. Oliver sighed softly.
"Bear, if you need me to come over, or if you've got something going on and need to go somewhere, we can go somewhere, you can sleep over and I'll drive you to school in the morning if you're dads would be okay with it." Oliver said and Logan would have smiled if he had the energy, but he didn't.
"It's nothing really, I've just been..tired, I guess."
"You know if you ever need anything-"
"I know." Logan said softly.
"Is there anything I can do to help?" Oliver asked gently.
"I don't think so." Logan said softly.
"I wish I could make this easier for you." Oliver said, almost in a whisper.
"I know...me too." Logan said, playing with the hem of his shirt.
"What should we do for Valentine's day?" Oliver asked all of a sudden and Logan knew he was switching the subject, but he wanted it switched anyways.
"I dunno, maybe we could go out on a date or you could sleep over or something, my dads are going away that weekend, so I'll have the house to myself."
"What are you implying that we might do in a completely empty house for an entire weekend?" Oliver asked and Logan could tell he was grinning.
"...We could turn it into a pillow fort." Logan said and Oliver laughed.
"The entire house?"
"Yup."
"I'll bring extra blankets then."
"Good idea, we'll need them."
They talked on for a few minutes about pillow forts and what else they might do for Valentines day, but soon Logan was growing more and more tired and Oliver told him to go get some sleep so they both said goodnight and hung up.
As Logan laid in bed staring up at the ceiling, he smiled a little to himself. How lucky had he been to find someone like Oliver? Someone so kind, and understanding as him. He wanted to tell Oliver that he loved him, like, really loved him, but he wasn't sure how, he felt like all the magic might go away. He shoved the thoughts out of his head and tried to go to sleep.

The Stormcrow Cycle
Once a powerful and lauded witch, Ba'an salu-Ba'an now lives alone in a cave in the desert, waiting to die. When she rescues an outlander from certain death she becomes embroiled in a deadly game of politics and empire, of heart and soul, but worst of all--of hope and love and a chance at a peaceful future. Can a disgraced witch find a reason to live her life again--and if so, what price must she pay? The Stormcrow Cycle is a trilogy comprising of The Exile, The Lion, and Abomination. Tags or genres for each book: The Exile: romance, slice-of-life The Lion: romance, slice-of-life, politics Abomination: tragedy, high/epic fantasy (aka "Everything is on fire!") Updates once a week whenever I have time. Cross-posted on Wattpad and Scribble Hub. The CBMokedi cover will return! Excerpt: She looked down at him again. Young. Healthy, from what she could see, except for the wound that was killing him. He was handsome in a way that suggested a life of wealth and plenty. She did not think he had ever starved. Someone important. Her shadow fell across him, and he frowned. Blearily, he opened his eyes. They were amber and bright, even as he lay dying in the dirt. She could feel his soul, blazing inside of him like a fire refusing to die even as his body began to fail. He met her gaze, eyes widening in what she guessed was surprise—or shock. But he never looked away, staring up at her as though transfixed. Ba’an made her decision. She raised her hand and covered his eyes. In another moment, a murder of crows cawed as they took wing. The man and woman were gone from the road, leaving only the dead staring up into the sky. Note: This is a high-fantasy set in a low-magic world. The first book is largely character-driven and we really only hit the real plot in Book II, so if you're not fond of long epic yarns you ought to skip this one. I also don't include trigger warnings, but mind the "traumatizing content" tag--all societies minus one practice slavery and the world is indeed, rather grim!
