《Everything Inbetween Bones [BxB] ✓》Chapter 32

A/N: I know you guys have been waiting on this chapter for forever now, and I'm sorry, but I hope it meets expectations, because I loved writing it. Ladies, Gentlemen, and all the lovely peeps inbetween, this is the moment you have all been waiting for, go forth and accept this chapter. Also, I chose Jackie and Wilson just because Hozier said in an interview that he was really just writing it because it was cute and happy and he wanted to and I love that. Anyways, enjoy the chapter, I hope everyone's having a good week.
Logan smiled as he glanced over at Oliver who was driving down the road. They only had about an hour and a half before it got really dark, so they'd have to rush a bit, but Oliver already had firewood so at least they wouldn't have to go looking for it.
"Do you want to play some music? I have an aux cord in the glove compartment." Oliver said and Logan smiled.
"Yeah, are you okay with folk?"
"What kind of folk?"
"The Crane Wives." Logan said with a little smile.
"Never heard of em, give me the best first impression possible." Oliver said and Logan giggled.
"Okay, I've been into their Foxlore album lately so your choices are Pretty Little Things, Curses, or Nothing at All...actually, no, just kidding, you don't get a choice, Curses is the best option. But Pretty Little Things and Nothing at All are definitely next because you're going to love them" Logan said, scrolling through the songs and Oliver laughed.
Logan turned on the song and Oliver turned up the audio until it was loud enough to fill the small, busted up black ford, it was nowhere near as nice as Sy's car, but Logan liked it more for some reason. It smelled like smoke, there were cd cases on the back seats, a bag with spare work clothes, and the glove compartment came loose of it's own accord from time to time, but it felt like it belonged to someone and Logan liked that.
The upbeat tune of the song floated through the car as a woman's voice sang sweetly, following the fast rhythm of the drum and guitar. It was beautiful, and meaningful, and catchy at the same time. Logan had probably listened to it thirty times in the last week at the very least. When it finished, Logan paused the next song that was starting to come on and looked over at Oliver who was grinning a bit as he looked back at the boy.
"What do you think?"
"I think I like your folk music and I need to hear more of it right now." Oliver said and Logan giggled, turning pink as he nodded, turning on the next song.
"Oh my god, there's also this other one, Ribs, also by them, you're gonna love it."
---
It was dark by the time Oliver got the fire going, the last remnants of the sun had dipped down into the horizon leaving behind the full, bright moon in the vast expanse of space. Twinkling stars were sprinkled like snowflakes that refused to fall, all of them demanding to be looked at and remembered. Everything past the trees was pitch black, but their little clearing around the flames was well cast in the gentle golden light.
The two boys lay next to eachother in the grass, staring up at the endless night sky.
"I think when I die I want to become a star, do you think arrangements like that could be made? Like, with a priest or a..fortune teller maybe?" Logan asked, looking over at Oliver who shrugged.

"I don't know, maybe when you die you get to go to some registration office and decide what happens to you." Oliver said.
"Like the DMV, but times a thousand." Logan said with a giggle and Oliver laughed.
"Purgatory is just a giant fucking filled up DMV." Oliver said, cracking up.
When they'd calmed down, they fell back into peaceful silence. Logan stared into his best friend's deep green eyes and he wondered if maybe he was actually in love with Oliver. The thought scared him, but it felt so right at the same time, like something was finally clicking in place and everything had come to this moment. Oliver made him happy, he made Logan want to be better, he made him realize he wanted to stay just in case things got better.
"You have pretty eyes." Logan said softly and Oliver laughed quietly. "What?"
"That's the first thing you said to me, when we were in like, fourth grade." Oliver said and Logan couldn't help but smile.
"I can't believe you remember that."
"And then, like a fucking dumbass, I responded with 'yeah.'" Oliver said and they both laughed once more. "You want me to get the hot dogs started?" Oliver asked after a few minutes and Logan nodded with a small smile.
They roasted hot dogs over the fire, Logan ate one and Oliver ate three. Logan figured barely eating for a week warranted a hot dog (151) in a bun (140). He felt half-full after finishing and it was okay, he refused to beat himself up over it for once.
"How do you eat so much?" Logan asked Oliver, who was finishing up his third hot dog, shrugged.
"How do you eat so little?" Oliver asked and Logan shrugged, taking a sip from his water bottle.
"We should get up early and watch the sun rise tomorrow." Logan said with a little smile and Oliver nodded.
Logan moved closer to the fire, starting to get cold with the wind blowing through the trees. He held his hands closer to the flames, feeling the heat almost burn him. After a moment, Oliver took his hand and Logan smiled a little.
"Is it weird for guys to hold hands?" Logan asked.
"Maybe. Do you want me to stop?"
"No."
---
"Do you ever feel like, really small?" Logan asked quietly, his legs dangling over the cliff edge as he stared over the tiny railroad tracks and water below.
"Doesn't everyone?"
"I don't know."
"I think it's a pretty normal feeling."
"But..then how is everyone so calm all the time? The world is terrifying and we just go about our lives." Logan said.
"If everyone was constantly freaking out all the time, nothing would get done. You could die walking outside of your house, but you could die staying in it anyways, why not just say 'fuck it' and keep living? Shit in the face of your fear and all that."
"Is that actually a saying?" Logan asked with a little grin, trying to keep from laughing.
"What?"
"Shit in the face of your fear."
"Yeah, it's my saying."
"Since when?"
"Like, two minutes ago."
Logan laughed quietly and Oliver grinned, taking out his pack of cigarettes. Logan stared at the pack almost longingly before looking back at the lake. It was another moment before his arm was nudged and he looked back to Oliver who held out one of the cigarettes to him, one sitting lit between his lips. He hesitated a moment.

"If you don't want it, don't take it, but I'm not going to condemn you for smoking." He said and Logan took it with a small smile, placing it between his lips and letting Oliver light it for him. "I'd be a pretty big hypocrite if I did." Oliver gave a half-smile.
"Oli.." Logan said quietly, taking a drag of his cigarette before letting out a slow breath.
"Yeah, Bear?"
Logan faltered a moment, looking away from his best friend, staring out at the scenery. He didn't know what to say, he just knew that he couldn't keep going like this, pretending that he didn't crave the scent of Oliver's cologne, or that he didn't think about him all the time, running their conversations through his head like a broken record, pretending that he wasn't completely in love with him.
"You should kiss me." Logan said in a whisper and there was a second of silence where Logan thought Oliver was trying to figure out how to politely reject him before he was laying with his back to the dirt, Oliver's lips pressed hard against his, gently pinned down by Oliver's much heavier body, and it had happened so fast that he'd hardly had time to process. Logan kissed him back, moving his hands up to string through Oliver's dark hair, tugging him closer and Oliver seemed to smirk into the kiss, one hand moving up to cup Logan's cheek, softly caressing it.
They were both breathless when they pulled apart, Logan looking up at Oliver who looked as happy as he felt, his hand still on Logan's cheek, wiping a tear away and Logan realized he was crying, barely able to keep a smile off his face as Oliver leaned down to kiss his forehead.
"You don't know how long I've waited for you to ask that." Oliver said in one breath.
"How long?" Logan asked.
"A really long fucking time." Oliver said and they both laughed quietly, never moving from their position, just looking at eachother. "Also-" Oliver said with a little smirk. "I am literally on top, so.." He leaned down to kiss Logan's jaw, then moving his lips closer to his ear. "Told you so."
"You're an asshole." Logan giggled.
"And yet you're still here, begging me to kiss you.."
"I was not begging you."
"You will be~" He said and Logan turned bright red.
"Shushhh!" He giggled, covering Oliver's mouth and the other grinned and took his hand, kissing his palm gently.
---
Logan laid, curled up in Oliver's arms in their shared tent. They'd decided to also just share a sleeping back considering Oliver's was big enough to fit Logan who was pretty small in proportion to Oliver, then they'd just used Logan's sleeping bag as an extra blanket.
The redheaded boy was laying with his head on his best friend's chest, Oliver gently running his fingers through the fluffy curls, humming the tune of an old song so quietly it could hardly be heard. Oliver was so warm and Logan was cuddled up to him like a koala, feeling especially happy that night.
"So are we making it official?" Oliver asked and Logan looked up at him with a big smile, nodding a bit.
"But can we keep it kind of quiet just for a little bit? I still feel bad about everything that happened with Sy and he's still mad."
"Yeah, of course, we don't have to make it public until you're ready." Oliver said and Logan smiled, leaning up to kiss his cheek.
"You're the best."
"I know." Oliver said with a grin and Logan giggled.
"You know, I think my dad's are going to be happier about this than I am." Logan said and Oliver laughed.
"It's alright, I love your dads, they were always kinda like family to me, or felt like it anyways."
"Yeah..I don't think anyone else would feel more like family than them, they just took me in and I didn't think they'd keep me after they read my file, but they did. They didn't care what trauma or problems I might have, they just wanted me." Logan said with a little smile.
"Do you remember anything about your real parents?" Oliver asked softly, as if he were afraid to ask at all. Logan nodded a little.
"I remember the fights..most of the flashbacks are of him.." Logan paused for a moment. "I just..I remember sitting in the corner watching him scream at her and she looked so scared..but I didn't know how to help, there was nothing I could do to help her." He sniffled and Oliver took a breath, just continuing stroking the boy's hair. "I always remember him saying he'd kill her, but I can't remember..if he actually did it." Logan wiped his eyes with his sleeve, shaking his head a bit. "It doesn't matter anyway, he ran off and killed himself after she was found dead." He said with a shrug and Oliver kissed his head.
They sat in silence for a while, but Logan didn't feel like Oliver didn't care about him or what he'd just said, he just hated pity more than anything and Oliver knew it. It wasn't an uncomfortable silence, but there was something sad in it.
"My dad hit me until I learned to fight back." Oliver said and Logan looked up at him. He'd always known it, with Oliver being kicked out for a week every other month when they were younger and having to stay at Logan's house, and Oliver never letting Logan come over, and the near constant bruises in random places up until middleschool, but Oliver had never said it out loud before.
"I wonder if it's true what they say, about damaged people always finding eachother." Logan said quietly.
"I dunno, I think everyone's a little fucked up." Oliver said. "There's no normal, there's just good and bad actors, and some people take trauma better than others and some people heal faster than others."
"Do you think there are some things you just can't heal from? Like, what if I just can't get better?" Logan asked and Oliver smiled sadly.
"There's always getting better, bear, maybe there's not healing completely, but you can learn to manage it, even the deepest wounds still scar, don't they?." He said with a shrug and Logan smiled a little.
"Promise me, even if we break up, we'll still stay friends..." Logan said quietly. "Pinky swear it." He said with a little grin.
"Are you sure, this is one of the hardest bonds to break you know, it's a step up from a spit shake and a step down from a blood covenant." Oliver said, grinning back and Logan nodded with a smile, holding his pinky out and Oliver wrapped his own around it.
"Pinky swear." Oliver said quietly and kissed Logan lovingly.
