《Everything Inbetween Bones [BxB] ✓》Chapter 3

A/N: Chapter 3 is here in all it's glory. This book is honestly so fun to write, I'm sorry, I just really like venting my personal problems through characters and then fixing my personal problems through characters, because let's be honest, I'm wayyyy too tired and sad to get my problems fixed. Enjoy the third chapter and maybe give the song a go if you don't mind. I'm not really getting anything out of you listening to the music, but I like it, so maybe you will, also, most of them relate to the story in case you haven't picked that up. This week we've got Warrior by AURORA.

"Hey..wake up....Logan!" The boy's eyes snapped open and he took a breath, he didn't know what had happened but his head felt numb and some parts of his body hurt like hell while others just ached. Someone was holding his shoulders and that's when he noticed the black combat boots stood in front of him. Oliver? "You're awake." The taller boy sighed in relief but Logan wasn't sure why.

"What are you..doing?" Logan asked, his voice sounding shakier than he intended it to be.

"Making sure you're not dead, what does it look like I'm doing?" Oliver said, looking over him. "What happened?" He asked and Logan just looked at him before shaking his head and trying to get up. Pain shot up from his ribs and legs. He wasn't sure what hurt anymore exactly, it was more like everything hurt pretty bad and then some places hurt worse.

"I'm f-fine, I just..need to get home.." He said, sliding down the wall back to the ground. "Shit."

"I can drive you home." Oliver offered and Logan looked up at him.

"Since when do you offer rides?" Logan asked.

"Since finding you behind the school half dead. Can you walk or do I need to carry you?" He asked and Logan got up, walking with a bad limp on his left leg before Oliver just sighed and picked him up, holding him bridal style. "Logan, do you want a ride or not?" He asked and the redhead rolled his eyes.

"Yeah, sure." He said quietly and Oliver walked toward his car.

The black car was old and run down, the black paint chipped, but it seemed to work. The dark haired boy set Logan down in the passenger seat and walked around to get in his own seat. The redhead buckled his seatbelt with a wince and Oliver gritted his teeth.

"Who did this to you?" He asked and Logan adjusted his sweater.

"No one. Don't worry about it." He said.

"I'm serious, what kind of sick fuck would do something like this?"

"I don't want to talk about it!" Logan said, looking at him coldly. "Maybe if you were around more you'd know." Oliver just scoffed at that and shook his head.

"Whatever." They sat in silence for a moment. "Your address hasn't changed, has it?"

"No, it's still the same." Logan said quietly, he didn't remember conversation with Oliver being this hard when they were friends, maybe it was true, time did change things a whole lot.

"You okay?" He asked, glancing at him.

"Do I look okay?" Logan asked almost humorously. Oliver didn't find it funny.

"At least you can admit it now." He said, pulling out of the school while Logan took a breath and then winced, holding his side. At least he wouldn't have to worry about eating, the thought of food made him nauseous at the moment, or maybe he was just nauseous anyways.

After a few minutes, the silence was killing him.

"So...what's new with you?" Logan asked, looking at Oliver a moment. The taller boy shrugged, watching the road.

"I don't know, signing up to colleges I guess, my dad doesn't really like what I want to do, he wants me in law school."

"What do you want to do?"

"Photography, I already make money off of it, but I'd like to learn more." He said. "What about you."

"Art I guess, like, drawing and stuff, but I don't know, I haven't thought about college much." In truth, he had thought about it, he just didn't think he'd ever have the skill or grades to go. He was terrified of being behind everyone else even though he had straight A's in school.

"Yeah? I bet you could, you should give it a go." He said, stopping at a light. Logan shook his head.

"I..college is too expensive anyways." He said, shaking his head. That wasn't true either, he knew his dad's had enough money to send him to any college he wanted.

"Get a loan."

"What if I don't want to drown in debt for the rest of my life?"

"I bet you just don't want to go." He said, starting to drive again when he noticed the light change.

"What makes you say that?" Logan asked, feeling his stomach tightening.

"It's fine if you don't want to go to college, Logan." He said.

"I just..yeah, I guess I just don't want to." He said. Oliver didn't need to know about his insecurities. The conversation was left at that, and it was quiet until the taller boy was a mile away from Logan's house.

"Hey, could you actually take me somewhere else?"

"Where?"

"I don't care, I just..I don't want to come home bloody and bruised again." He said. "I just want to go somewhere for a little while, I'm not ready to go home yet." His voice was quiet.

"Again? This has happened before?"

"Yeah.." He said, playing with the cuff of his sweater sleeve.

"I need to take you home."

"Oliver, please, I just..I can't, I'll pay you for whatever gas you use, just please don't make me go home yet." Oliver sighed, thinking it over.

"So what, you're just going to not go home until the bruises are cleared up? that'll take weeks."

"I'll go home later, just not right now." He looked at the freckled redhead a moment before he shook his head and made a turn.

"Fine, we'll wait in the walmart parking lot for one hour, that's it, then I'm driving you home." He said and Logan nodded.

"Thanks, Oli." Oliver smiled a little, the last time Logan had called him that it had been the beginning of freshman year.

--

Oliver pulled into the walmart parking lot and shut the car off.

"I'm gonna go in and get a Coke, you want anything?"

"Water. Here, I think I have money.." He said, searching his backpack.

"It's fine, I can pay for it." He said, unbuckling his seatbelt. "I'll see you in a minute then." He said and got out. As soon as he did, Logan leaned his head back a bit on the seat, groaning in pain. He felt numb and sore at the same time and he was so fucking hungry. He usually wasn't that hungry until he ate around 7, but he also usually didn't eat before that. He figured he could subdue it with water and then get a small meal at home. I probably just need salt He reminded himself, he usually avoided it or ate it in very small amounts just to make sure he was getting some sodium to make sure he wasn't going to pass out.

"Hey, here's your water." Oliver said with a small smile, handing it over and Logan took it.

"Thanks." He said, screwing off the top and taking a sip. He could feel the ice cold water rush all the way down like a breath of fresh air. He wondered if he'd remember this feeling even when he was old and eating like a person should be.

"So what's going on lately? I haven't really asked you about anything other than college." Oliver asked.

"I don't know, I've been hanging out with friends and stuff mostly, watching netflix, studying, you know, student life." He joked and Oliver cracked a smile.

"Yeah, I'm pretty much the same. I've been thinking about maybe doing backstage for the play, but I don't know, I think it'd kinda wreck my vibe." Oliver said and Logan stifled a laugh.

"God forbid anything wreck your vibe."

"Hey, it's very important, you think it's easy finding black in every store I go to?"

"Yeah, it is, I do it all the time."

"Then why do you always wear yellow?"

"Yellow's happier, I guess, but I wear brown too. I just like to wear black at home." He shrugged.

"Why wear yellow if you'd rather wear another color?" Oliver asked, taking a sip of his soda. Logan shrugged.

"If I wore black, people would think I was sad."

"People don't think I'm sad."

"Yeah, you get the next best thing, angry and scary as hell." Logan smiled and Oliver rolled his eyes.

"Clothes are weird, people are weird, you should wear black if you want to, and people aren't scared of me because of my clothes." He said.

"Maybe, but I don't mind wearing yellow anyways."

"You and your yellow hoodies and brown sweaters, I don't think I've ever seen you out of one of the two since we were thirteen."

"Why are we even talking about clothing?"

"Is yellow actually your favorite color or do you just pretend to like it because you think it should be?" Oliver asked teasingly with a little smile.

"I'm allowed to wear what I want to, I like yellow, I like to wear cable knitted sweaters, I like black skinny jeans, I don't make fun of you for your fashion choices."

"I mean, you could if you wanted to. I'm not going to cry about it." Oliver said and Logan huffed, annoyed.

"Oliver-"

"Would you like to make fun of my clothing choices, Logan?" He asked, a small smirk on his face.

"Fine! You look like you just walked out of hot topic and you have a sacrificial ceremony to attend later but it didn't quite fit in your schedule so you had to dress ahead to make sure you got there on time." He said quickly, his words falling out in a jumble. Oliver laughed.

"I love it, alright. So I look like an edgy teenage satanist with very bad time management." He said, humor in his tone, and Logan rolled his eyes.

"I don't like making fun of people." Logan said, playing with his sleeve which was pulled over his hand.

"I asked you to."

"But I could have said something hurtful." Logan said and Oliver looked at him skeptically.

"Logan, I can laugh at myself, I like to, I can handle people playfully slighting my outfits, it's not a big deal." He said and Logan nodded.

"S-"

"I swear to god, don't you dare apologize."

"Sorry." He said quietly and Oliver gave a sigh but then a small smile.

"Just like when we were kids, you really haven't changed a bit, have you?" He asked and Logan shrugged.

"I don't like change." Oliver looked at him for what felt like a long time.

"You're doing better, right?" He asked seriously. Logan paused.

"Yeah, the bullying's kinda shit, but I'm better," He said and Oliver didn't look like he quite believed it. "How's your dad?"

"Same as always, mom moved out two years ago."

"I'm sorry."

"It's not your fault."

"I got to meet my grandma last year."

"Really?" Oliver smiled a little.

"Yeah, it was a little surreal, but my dad's flew me over to Ireland to stay there for a few weeks. She's really nice, she told me a lot about my mom." He said, playing with his sleeve.

"Yeah?"

"Yeah." Logan said, nodding with a little smile, a real one. Oliver smiled a bit too. There was a moment where something might have happened, sorry's might have been tossed back and forth between the two of them, Logan might have opened up about the thoughts that were catching up to him and Oliver might have talked more about his Dad. But they both realized they were still in Oliver's shabby black car in a walmart driveway, and the moment that could have been, ended.

"I should get you home." Oliver said and Logan nodded.

"Thank you, though."

"For?"

"Just everything, you didn't have to do anything for me." He said quietly and Oliver smiled.

"You're welcome. Have I achieved my decent human being badge?" He asked with a little almost chuckle. Logan shook his head with a smile.

"I think dressing like a hot topic teen sort of demolishes any chances of being considered a decent human being, sorry, Oli." He smiled a little and Oliver nodded.

"Shucks."

"Did you just say shucks?"

"It was ironic."

"you still said it."

"Okay, I formally apologize." Oliver said and Logan giggled. Oliver turned out of the walmart parking lot and onto the main road.

--

Once they pulled into Logan's driveway Oliver looked at him for a minute.

"We should..hang out more or something." Logan looked at him.

"I'd like that." Logan said, not sure how to respond. "Here, um, I'll give you my number-" He said, reaching into his backpack to grab paper and he scribbled down the digits.

"Hey log."

"Hm?" He looked up at the taller boy, Oliver's brown almost black hair was ruffled and falling into his eyes, Logan wanted to push it away.

"I missed you." He said and gave the red head a small smile.

"Yeah..I missed you too." Logan said, folding the piece of paper up. "I'll talk to you tomorrow then? I mean, if my dads let me go to school." He smiled, scratching the back of his neck.

"Yeah, I'll see ya around then." Oliver smiled and nodded to him, turning the car key. Logan watched at his car rolled it's way around the corner, some part of him really wanted to cry, but he walked inside, the limp just a little better. I missed you. He smiled to himself, playing with his sleeves as he walked in.

"Where have you been?"
