😒

We were 15 minutes late, and to be truly honest, I was delighted. The mayor was in the middle of his speech, this I know for sure. The only thing he does is switch the words around so it can seem like it's a new speech.

Mari searches the tables for her father. Retired commander and officer, served and protected this country for 10 years, and was a damn good one. The same line he always tells us.

I spot him fastly and point toward the table. She looks and we make our way as all eyes shift from the mayor to us. There is at least 100 guest, 8 placed at each table. Rich/wealthy people, like landowners, famous businesses that keep this town supported, retired soldiers who hit the jackpot, billionaires and investors. The mayor rants on and on about changes that he always says will happen but never follows through.

We arrive at the table. Mari hugs her dad as he listens while planting a kiss on his cheek.

"You're late!" He whispers to us both. I try to take the blame for practically getting bragged to come here, but Mari shrugs and motions toward my seat.

"Sorry, dad!" She mutters annoyed. Her mood has kinda been off since earlier. She hasn't been making many conversations, especially during the car ride. And me knowing Mari, knows she loves drama and lives to talk.

"Sorry Marvin," I whisper lowly trying to avoid stares from our whispering. Mr.Fields turn in his chair surprised to see me. I did just see him 2 weeks ago.

"Oh, Jay! It's been ages since I have last seen you!" He smiles kindly and I smile back nodding.

"Dad, her and Joe stopped by just last week. " She groans taking a seat beside her dad while I take the next seat to her left.

"Sshh," Ms.Atkins whispers to us. She's the third seat down across the table. Her grandsons, Sam and Corey stare bored out of space. Marvin apologies and turns his attention back to the mayor. But not before he says this...

"You both look perfectly stunning!" He whispers and smiles kindly at us. I glance at what he is wearing, which is a dark grey suit. Which isn't odd because he's always wearing a suit.

"Sssh Mr.Fields!" Ms.Atkins hisses angrily. Her perfectly wrapped grey/brownish hair pinned. Her slightly wrinkled skin is decorated with perfect makeup. Her pearl necklace lies against her pale skin with a stylish black dress.

"Sorry, Ms.Atkins." We all let out a groan. Seriously I think Atkins is obsessed with our mayor. Of course, he's quite handsome, but she is a serious fan-girl, as a 67-year-old.

Marvin has to give his speech now. He stands and walks toward the stage, the cheers and applause erupted. Mari soon rises and whispers down to me she has to go to the bathroom, she'll be back soon. Her voice is cracking. I grab her wrist.

"Is everything okay?" I whisper/ yell. I know something is wrong. I also know Mari is a very stubborn person, so she's not going to come out and say it. Best friend or not.

"I-It's fine." She shutters. Her eyeliner is running. I rise hesitantly but she shakes her head.

"Mari..." I try to go on but she's not having it.

"Jay! I'm fine!" She forces a smile and walks away. I know she needs space, so I leave her alone. I can't figure out what's bothering her! Could it be something between her and Jeremy?

I am so ready to eat. My stomach growls loudly, and Atkins is giving me a deadly glare. I return my focus back to Mr.Fields (Marvin).

" Looks like you need some company lovely." Lovely? That voice is familiar, and Lovely is my nickname from...

"I miss you so much, Jay!" He smiles kindly at my annoyed stare. I sigh stressed already. I knew I had to face him, but not so soon. Not now! I don't wanna talk to him.

"What do you want Sean?" I don't turn around to face him. I keep my gaze on Marvin. I grow highly uncomfortable and shift in my seat. He puts his hand on my arm and I flinch. I shove his hand away. He chuckles nervously and returns his hand to his lap.

I still do not return him a smile or a glare. He clears his throat and prepares to give me some shitty line or whatever. I close my eyes in pain, trying not to picture him and his mischievous smile. Dark blue/greenish eyes. His sandy brown hair and freckle on his left jawline. Speaking of the jawline, he had a nice sculpted one.

I shake my head from my stupid memories of his face. You don't admire his face! You want to fucking smash it!

"We need to talk Jay seriously." I can't believe he says we need to talk. Why do we need to talk? There is nothing to talk about.

"We seriously DON'T need to talk!" I hiss lowly. Why does he think that? He cheated and I dumped him! End of story, right?

"Yeah, we do!" He urges forcibly. I grunt and finally turn my attention towards him. I see he is letting his facial hair grow out. His bushy eyebrows raised surprised. Maybe because after all these months I am finally giving him 2% of my attention.

"Okay let's talk! For starters let's go into you cheating with Greenly, Joe's BABYSITTER! Oh, and then how I caught you in the act while I was at work. What were you supposed to do? Bring Joe her inhaler! But instead, you were in MY BEDROOM fucking Greenly brains out."

"Oh boy, let's not forget about those few months you went off to college and fucked some campus bimbo and kept it away from me for two years. I wasted fucking 5 years on you fucking asshole!" I grunt out.

"I said sorry!" He screeches lowly.

"Oh yeah, sorry fixes everything! The tears I wasted and the broken heart. I totally forgive you."

"Jay you have to understand I was in a depressing stage and I was getting bored with our relationship, we were/are young and ... " He states excitedly.

"Fuck no! I don't want to hear that because I tried to be there for you Sean and you fucking bashed me for it!" My eyes become teary, but I try holding it all in. If I keep letting the dumbass who broke my heart see me cry then he will see how vulnerable I am.

"Language young lady! Have manners and be quiet!" Atkins yells lowly. I completely ignore her and so does Sean.

"It happened so fast, Jay!" He sighs lowly. His voice kinda screeches as he glares at me.

"And you could have stopped it! Don't pend this on time because you had enough to back out." I fire forcefully.

"I know and I fucked up! I keep trying to show you I've changed. I would never hurt you like... "

"I can't forgive you, Sean! No matter how many apologies you try and throw at me! I can not let myself suffer again." I chuckle with so much exasperation because I am tired.

"Greenly was my recommendation!" He adds oddly. And I stare confusingly.

"I felt you knew we were screwing." He mumbles.

"Oh, so you banged her more than once? Fucking perfect Sean! And this is why I will not allow myself to forgive you!" I spit.

"You should have known!" He growls.

"Oh, so since you recommended Greenly to me as a babysitter, I am supposed to let you have sex with her. Your girlfriend is supposed to let... "

"That's not what I'm saying! I'm saying why didn't you figure that we were "you know" if I suggested her."

"Gee I don't know, maybe because you were already in a relationship WITH ME! And you recommended her to me as a favor because she was a family friend or just plainly a friend!"

"She was indeed a friend." He smirks out of space.

"You're a joke shit head, and what you did to me I hope it hits you harder!"

"Can you stop calling me names!" He groans angrily.

"Nope fucker! I hope you rot in hell." I stand and grab my purse. I have to find Mari and see if she is alright. Like now! Dinner will be served in 5 minutes, but all I want to do is go home.

Out of nowhere, Sean pulls my wrist and pulls me into him tightly.

"We're not done here, Jay!" He growls. His eyes turn cold.

I peek back inside toward the stage and Marvin sits next to the mayor on stage as another guy stands to give his speech. What's with the speeches? Hope this is the last guy.

" Yeah, we are Sean!" I turn my attention back to him trying to yank my arm out his grasp, but he is so strong.

"Sean you're hurting me!" I pull.

"Jay!" He hisses so cold and angrily that I almost piss my pants well dress or underwear....what ever!

"Dude let her go! You're hurting her and she's totally done with the conversation. You're making yourself look like the bitch you are in front of everyone." I look over my shoulder as Sean continues to clutch my wrist. It's that bitch from Starbucks. Really!?

"Kylie! Mind your fucking business." I thought her name was Ky? I'm lost on how they know each other. May have been one of his sluts too.

"Can't! Being super saver bitch is my duty." She chuckles hysterically. Her short curly light brown locks sit messily sprawled on the top of her head with the sides shaved low. She has a design of two lines over her ear. The look totally fits her and screams boyish. Her green eyes stare hysterically at me. Her peach smooth lips hold that smirk towards me.

She's wearing a white button-up shirt with a dark blue blazer, dark blue skinny jeans, and all-black casual shoes. She looks casual, not too unwanted.

" You can stare longer and discover what I'm wearing under." She smirks. I think the reference is stated towards me but I do have a man-whore standing next to me, you never know with his slutty ways.

"Ky stay the hell away from my girlfriend!" Why the hell is he trying to defend me, he isn't my boyfriend.

"Word around town is that you kids broke up." She eyes him frustrated. I can tell from her look that she doesn't like Sean, and the feeling is mutual for him.

"Ex!" I hiss. "We broke up 6 months ago jerk!"

"Again STOP with the name-calling!" He groans viciously.

"Let her go, Peters!"

"None of your fucking business Ky!" He hisses at her annoyed.

"It is my son!" We all stare up and see Mr.Fields leaning against the exit.

"Let her go and return to your table. All of you!" He yells in an orderly voice. Sean drops my arm and stare and I love further away from him. As he walks past, he grabs my waist and pulls me against his chest.

"We will talk later lovely," he whispers against my skin roughly as he plants a kiss on my cheek. I push him away and a tear slowly falls down my cheek. I quickly wipe it away along with his kiss. I honestly don't know why I am crying, I promised I wouldn't shed another tear for him.

"Fucker!" Kylie or Ky whatever her name is hiss under her breath. Mr.Fields guide's her in.

I wonder if this is a love-hate relationship they have going on.

"Jay uh where's Mari?" He questions curiously.

"She stepped out for a while." I smile kindly.

"Okay." He smiles worried and nervous. I nod and head back to my table.

Yeah, she saved her name like that. It's annoying and long but I don't change it.

I turn around and she stands there smiling, but it's not her usual smile this one is forced.

"What I miss?" She sniffs rubbing her red eyes that you can obviously tell was full of tears just a minute ago.

"Mari somethings wrong and I know it, so start explaining...."

"I hope you didn't run into Sean!" She groans guiding away from the subject. We have to talk about this, so there is no point in dodging it.

I just need to give her space until she is ready to tell me.
