At school, I saw jannah by her locker, busy with her books.

" How is my princess today ?!! " I said teasing her.

" Ha ha ha, very funny James " she said in bordom.

" So my sister's birthday is next week, and she wants shahd to come over, but I heard your mother said no " I said.

" Yes, because she is too young to go to a stranger's house on her own " she explained.

" Well, who said she is going on her own?!! " I said winking.

" What do you mean ?!!" She said narrowing her eyes.

" You are also invited " I said.

I went home after school that day, and the first thing that came out of my mouth was

Friday came really fast that week, that's how it works when you try to run away from something, it haunts you.

My mother convinced me of wearing a dress instead of a casual outfit, the upper part of the dress was black and the skirt was golden, I put on a golden scarf, and my mother gave me a golden necklace of her own.

" Mum this is too much " I complained.

" No, it is not, remember those people are really sophisticated " she said.

" Wow, great, you just made me even more worried " I said.

" No don't worry, everything is gonna be okay in Shaa Allah " she said reassuring me.

" Well where is shahd ?!! My little trouble bag " I asked.

" Ta da " she came out wearing a pink glittery dress with wings.

" Ah, kids " I complained facepalming myself.

We heard James's car outside, then the door bell rang.

" Well he is here " my mum said.

She went downstairs to open the door because I still had to put on my high heels shoes that would torture me all night.

I came down and James was speaking to my mother, suddenly he stopped speaking and looked at me opening his mouth.

" Woww " he said in amazement.

" Okay I guess you will have to close your mouth before a bird builds a nest inside it " I said sarcastically.

Mum and shahd giggled.

" Okay shahd let's go " I said.

" Bring them back at 8 " mum said.

We got into his car, I sat in the front seat, and shahd sat in the back seat and he drove off.

" So congratulations, your plan worked, are you happy now ?!!" I said.

" More than you can imagine " he said.

The problem was that I was being sarcastic, but he wasn't.

We arrived at the gates of his house, more like his mansion, the Atkins' mansion looked like a hut compared to it.

" Woww, that's huge " I said in amazement.

" Yeah, that's my thing " he said rubbing his fingers against his chest in an arrogant manner.

" Cut the cockiness " I said.

" okay, okay, I was kidding, sherw " he said.

" Really?!!!" I said like an idiot.

" No, but it was the only way to get away with calling you shrew " he said.

" Ouch, that was really painful " he said in pain.

" Both of, stop it, or I will tell my mother " shahd interfered.

We both stopped, we looked in front of us, then we looked at each other and giggled.

We reached another gate.

" How many gates we have to pass through to get to your house ?!!" I asked.

" We will get out here " he said.

He stopped the car, got out, and opened the doors for me and for shahd.

We got out, looking at how huge that mansion was, my whole street could live inside this place .

We had to climb many stairs, I was really afraid of tripping because of the high heels, James offered to help me by holding my hands.

" Don't even dream about it " I said sternly.

After a couple of minutes I tripped and fell down, he laughed at me.

" Still, you are not touching my hands " I said and he frowened.

At last we reached the dinning room, they had a big table like the ones we see in movies, it was so big that if you sit on one end of it you would have a hard time seeing the person on the other end.

" So where are the other guests ?!!" I asked.

" There are none " he said with a smirk.

" What ?!!" I asked.

" I mean you are the only guests, my parents always keep my sister's birthday party low-key because of her disability, we don't invite anyone, but this year was an exception " he said.

After a couple of minutes the parents came out with their daughter, shad ran towards her.

" Hello, my name is Bruce, I'm James's father " the man said stretching his hand to me.

He was a man in his forties, had the same facial structure like his son, and the same piercing blue eyes like him, he was wearing a very expensive black suit that fit him perfectly, he had a great body for his age.

" He definitely goes to the gym " I said to myself.

I was fixed for a moment, and I didn't stretch my hand to him.

" Jannah, hello, wake up " James said.

" Oh, sorry, sorry, I lost my concentration for a moment there " I said idiotically, then I said " Nice to meet you sir " shaking his hand.

Then he turned to the woman next to him.

" And this beautiful woman right here is my beautiful wife, and James's mother, Selina " he said.

She seemed to be a little older than her husband, she looked nothing like her son, she had dark eyes, blond hair with alot of extensions and a fake tan.

" Nice to meet you ma'am " I said.

But she didn't say a word back.

We sat down to the big table, all of us, waiting for dinner before the birthday party officially start.

" So you go to the same school with James?!!" Said the father trying to start a conversation.

" Yes, Mr Wayne " I said trying to end the conversation but he continued anyway.

" I heard you are a valedictorian " he said.

" Yes, Alhamdulilah " I said in a shy tone.

" Well, you know the Wayne enterprises offer alot of scholarships, If you are interested " he said warmly.

I looked at his wife, and I saw her face change, she seemed really angry at her husband for offering me a scholarship.

" That's generous of you sir, I'll think about it " I said.

The servants began putting the plates on the table in front of us

There were meet, chicken and seafood in front of us, it was like an open buffet.How can they decide what to eat with a table like that ??!.

" I made the steak myself, try it " the woman finally spoke.

" I'm sure it will taste fantastic " I said trying to compliment her.

James put a big slice of steak in front of me.

" Dig in girl " he said.

I looked at my sister and she was already stuffing her mouth with food.

I put the first piece of meat inside my mouth, it was really tasty, but there was something strange about the sauce.

" Woww, it's really great, what is the sauce made of ?!!, I'm intrigued, can you tell me the secret?!! " I asked James's mother trying to be nice.

" Red wine and ginger " she said smiling at me like the devil.

" What?!!" I said in shock.

I instantly had a gag reflex, my stomach was numb.

" Mum, I told you not to use any wine in the food because she is Muslim " James said angerily.

" What?!!, I couldn't, the sauce would never taste the same without wine " she said angerily.

I stood up putting both my hands on my mouth to prevent any accident.

" James, where is the bathroom ?!!" I said in a low voice.

" Here, come with me " he said.

He gave me the directions to the bathroom.

I found myself in a huge bathroom, I went to the sink, and I tried to vomit to get all the food out of my stomach, it was really painful that I started to cry, I ended up sitting on the floor of the bathroom.

" I'm sorry " I heard James's voice from the other side of the door.

I knew since I entered this house that this woman hated me, there is no way she did that accidentally, no, she meant to do it.

I couldn't be in a house where sombody hated me like that.

So after I calmed down, I opened the door of the bathroom, and James was outside, I could see regret in his eyes.

" I'm leaving " I said.

" What ?!! The party didn't even begin " he said.

" Your mother doesn't like me, she did that on purpose,she wanted to remind me of how different we are " I said angerily.

" I know my mother can be mean sometimes, I'm sorry " he said.

" You don't have to apologise, it's not your fault " I said.

" Wait at least let me drive you home " he said.

" Thank you I'm walking home " I said.

" In those heels !!! " He said.

" Yes in those heels, it was a mistake to come here in the first place " I said.

I turned to shahd,

" Come here we are going home " I said giving the mother a death glare.

I went downstairs, and James was still running after me, he grabbed my arm.

" Wait, you can't just leave like that " he said.

" No, I can, your mother is right, we are different James, go back to your mansion, and I'll go back to my house " I said snatching my arm.

It took me a really long time to reach home, it was a really painful journey in those heels, I can't say I didn't regret refusing James offer to drive me home.

When my mother opened the door, she was surprised to see us that early.

" What happened ?!!" She asked.

I hugged her crying, I told her about what happened so she calmed me down.

" You did the right thing " she said.

I couldn't sleep that night thinking about what happened worrying that I still had some wine in my system.

But Alhamdullah, the next day wasn't a school day so I didn't have to worry about seeing James.

I was studying in the evening when my mum came into the room.

" You are going on a date with James tomorrow " she said.
