《Typhoon & Tempest》Epilogue

Lily watched on as Jack put her suitcase into the back of her car, unable to help thanks to her arm still bound in sling. The sun was high in the clear sky as Jack waved her hand at the flies dancing around her head, cursing their annoying buzzing. Lily smiled as her friend began shoving her two bags in the boot of the car, grunting.

Ollie came over and stood next to Lily, watching the witch struggle with her over-packed bags. "How are you feeling?" Her aunt asked, eyeing her still-injured niece.

"I'm good, despite everything." Lily answered honestly, not thinking on Ryan's words yesterday. Jack also hadn't mentioned what Andrew had said to her at the formal, even though it shadowed them like Jack's makeup she hadn't removed properly.

"I think this trip away will be good for you." Her aunt said. "Doesn't mean I won't miss my movie marathon buddy."

"I always fall asleep during your movies anyway." Lily smiled.

"But I enjoy listening to you snore through the scary scenes, it always breaks the tension." Ollie smiled back, gently hugging Lily into her chest. "I'm proud of you, littlest Morgan."

Lily frowned at the new nickname, pulling back to see her aunt blinking rapidly. "Why did I call you that?" Ollie pondered. "It just slipped off the tongue."

"It sounds familiar, did you call me that when I was young? Before...everything?"

"I think so?" Ollie shook her head. "I've been remembering a few things, I guess I suppressed a lot when I became your guardian. Now that you're flying the nest, I guess it's all coming back to me."

Lily looked over Ollie's shoulder to see, behind her house, a flicker of the silhouette of her supernova predecessor. She smiled, hoping he'd see her thankfulness, before turning to her aunt. "That's awesome Ollie, what else do you remember?"

"Weirdly enough, I remembered last night when I was at your family home in Marlin's Bay and Cordie was refilling the kettle when the tap just shot off!" Ollie laughed, motioning with her hands. "Cordie swore for a whole ship and was pressing the water down with her hands, and her eyes changed from brown to this shade of royal blue."

"Blue?" Lily's dark eyes widened. "She could shift her eyes?"

"Yes! Yes I remember now!" Ollie's own eyes widened. "Yes she could! The rest of your family could, they shifted to blue! And Nerida was on the sofa with me, we were quietly chatting over a cup of tea, some vegetable tea - rhubarb I think? Anyway, Cordie's swearing for help and just as I stand up to grab a towel, Nerida's eyes go from brown to grey when she waved her hand and the water stopped bursting from the tap!"

"Wait..." Lily's mind whirred. "Granny Haven's eyes weren't blue?"

"No, they were grey, like yours are, right?" Ollie cocked her head. "I don't remember anything else, it's coming back to me slowly, but-"

"Don't overexert yourself, Ollie." Lily teased, remembering her aunt's words to her only yesterday. "Take your time with it."

Ollie raised an eyebrow. "You haven't even left yet and you're already giving me advice? I must be getting old."

Lily laughed and both of them turned when they heard Jack calling her name. "Are you planning on leaving or chatting at your door all day? Come on Lil', we have places to be! Things to blow up!" Jack shouted, laughing when Ollie raised an eyebrow at her niece.

"That's my cue!" Lily chirped, kissing her aunt on the cheek.

"Don't blow anything up!" Ollie yelled back, and waved as Jack and Lily got in the car. The two strapped on their seat belts but Jack didn't turn on the car yet, instead turning to her friend.

"Now, the key to any road trip, is good music." Jack declared, handing Lily her phone. "You have to set the tone Lily, no pressure but make it something spectacular."

Lily used her one working hand to scroll through Jack's music, humming as she passed track after track. She scrolled past Bastille, The Cab, even some Dropkick Murphy's - she didn't know Jack was a fan - until she found the perfect one.

"Okay, I have it." Lily smiled. Jack nodded, turning on the car, and Lily pressed play. When the tune started to carry through the speakers, the witch burst out laughing.

"Raining Men?" Jack beamed. "What are you expecting to find on this road trip?"

"It's a good song!" Lily defended, thinking that a catchy and upbeat tune was exactly what the two needed after their horrible day yesterday.

"It is a good song," Jack agreed, "but you're expecting men to fall out the sky?"

"What are you expecting? Do you want someone to, what, talk about your favourite movies?"

"No of course not." Jack huffed. "I want them to watch my favourite movie for the first time while I'm there right next to them, staring into their soul, making sure they react exactly how they're meant to."

Lily laughed, Jack even shaking her head at her own declaration. "We've gone mad."

Just as Jack was about to drive off, Freida stepped out of Lily's house and handed a cup of tea to Ollie. They both waved goodbye to their little birds leaving the nest. Jack clenched her jaw at the sight of her mother but waved back regardless.

As they began driving down the road, the song building in the car, Lily was laughing at Jack's horrid car karaoke when her arm twitched in its sling. Lily gasped for a moment when she realised she could move her finger, just a little, but it made her beam.

Lily waved goodbye to the wild waters of her town as Jack turned towards Widderin, the home of the phoenix.

Her adventure was just beginning.

Freida watched her daughter drive off with the new Supernova and left Olivia on the doorstep, venturing back inside to grab her phone. She knew her relationship with her Jacinta was fractured but Freida knew there was no other way.

She may not be as powerful as she used to be, nor as powerful as her daughter, but she still had her gifts. Freida was still a force to be reckoned with - and Jacinta had no idea just how much of a force she was yet.

So Freida gave her the push she needed to find it out. She hated harming her daughter, pretending it was madness, but her little bird would never have flown the nest if Freida hadn't pushed her.

When Freida found her phone, she quickly went to send a text. Was she devious? Yes. Was she a liar? Yes. But she did what she had to do to keep the world turning, to keep her daughter on track to be the best of all the witches before her.

Freida didn't hesitate in pressing send. She turned the screen away as Olivia came into the house, complimenting her new rhubarb tea. The human declared she was going to her room to get ready for a shift at work, but Freida didn't pay attention.

When the room was clear, her madness began to tickle the back of her mind once again, making her chuckle. Her eyes gleamed from her tumbling insanity.

"The storm has come. The inferno is ashes. The cyclone has quietened. The earth is silent." Freida whispered, a crooked smile planted on her face. "Destruction is coming. The cleanse has begun. The typhoon approaches..."

Her phone vibrated as she received a response.

"...And the world will drown."
